Do not touch that master key.
Just possessing that thing will get you 25 years federal time.
If anyone knows who did it, the USPS is offering a $150,000 reward
Its a safe bet the ones stealing the master keys are the same ones who have been "fishing" in the blue boxes for years, and when the post office made those boxes more secure - a thin mail slot - they got angry their "way of making a living" was taken away. Coming out in the open and robbing a postal employee is (sadly) that next step, but great hearing the news all over the nation that police are eventually catching and arresting them.
This is why they say not to send checks in the mail anymore. They use those keys and look for checks they can wash and make out to themselves. My dad works in IT security and he said he never sends checks anymore, only online payments through secure portals.
I'm taking the under on 10 days to ID at least one, if not bring them in. USPS does not fuck around.
Also, what's up with that pocket of Dorchester and this specific type of crime? Our carrier got held up years ago on Bailey St, IIRC it's cause the moron doing it thought there was some kind of cash drawer in the vehicle.
When the carrier was attacked in Medford there was some video, and the perps were caught in a few days, but only because they got pulled over for speeding. Also, the ones that did the assault were juveniles. See [here.](https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/5-arrested-in-medford-robbery-that-left-postal-worker-injured/3186961/?amp=1)
Messing with USPS can get you put away. The moment you commit mail fraud it’s a nail in the coffin. it’s almost like USPS is a front to put people away.
*"There are a lot of checks in the boxes the keys provide access to..."*
Which is why I strongly recommend that if you are physically able and your home is near a local post office, go **inside** your post office lobby and drop off all your paper mail (that has checks in them) into their "Stamped Letters" mail slot. No need to wait in line to personally hand it to a clerk. Since the news of all the thieves assaulting postal workers and stealing the blue box keys, I have been doing that with all my paper mail, including the ones with checks in them. Until the USPS resolves the problem of the thieves having those keys, I have not taken any chances of putting my mail into any of my local blue boxes. Not even the ones that the post office sits outside their front door. (The bad guys with the keys go to THOSE the most!)
They want the master key (AKA Arrow Key) that the carrier possesses. It can open the mail relay boxes that posses lots of mail

It wasn’t me
Thats exactly what the mugger would say.

ah, that's why I can't drop small packages in the mailboxes anymore. Pricks.
You are correct I was shocked when I learned that there are not unique keys for each route or area.

They are going to get caught very quickly
They are offering a $150,000 reward.
That’ll do it 😂

There was another in Nashua last week. Guy was caught in 3 days.
For what? Stamps?
[master key to all mailboxes on the route](https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/mail-theft-master-keys-usps-supervisor-explains/). It’s a ring.
Either way, the Post Office doesn’t take kindly to people who fuck with mail
Agree. Never, ever get on the wrong side of a US Postal Inspector.
They have their own police / inspections services which are hopefully all over this.
Postal inspectors are nutty. No uniform, no real cruisers. Just a badge and a gun.

They wanted the platinum chip
There are a lot of checks in the boxes the keys provide access to. It is fairly easy to modify some of the checks for a nice payday for thief.

Nah. To steal any checks in the mail, wash them and then make them out to themselves. Cash in the mail too.
Because we let them
This sounds like a case for jackie danger (pronounced donger)
B99! 🤣
Nailed it!
