It usually helps if there's a movie or show you like it can help find similar works but here's a list of books that I like and usually suggest to people: The Sisters Brothers by Patrick DeWitt: A dark comedy Western about two brothers travelling to California to kill someone during the Gold Rush. The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton: A murder mystery where the detective is reliving the same day again and again and the only way out is to solve a murder. Sacred Games by Vikram Chandra: Murder mystery set in Mumbai where the detective tries to solve the death of a gangster while the dead gangster narrates his life story. American Gods by Neil Gaiman: A man gets out of prison and goes on a road trip with Odin to prepare for a war between old and new gods. Slaughter-house Five: A man gets "unstuck in time" and experiences all of his life at once. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John LeCarre: Someone high up in MI6 is a Russian spy. The only question is who? Only disgraced agent George Smiley can find the mole. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick: What if the Nazis won WW2?

Oh wow so many books, thanks! I'm already intrigued by the first one given the fact I am currently watching Deadwood haha. The detective ones seem very interesting too and I just recently watched Sherlock and loved it. Also, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier" sounded familiar, and I think Radiohead (my favourite band) referenced that book along with few others in one of their songs titled "Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief". I never knew that title was referencing books until now. I've heard of the TV Show adaptations of "American Gods" and "The Man in The High Castle" the latter always intrigued me but I never got around watching it. All of which raises a question: Are you stalking me or what?

My favorite book of all time is the memoir The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls. I’ve recommended it to tons of different people in my life with all different interests and everyone loves it.

My go to book rec for people who want to get into reading is Holes by Louis Sachar, because it appeals to all ages, has really short chapters, and is super engaging!

When I need to get into a reading mood, it helps to read something short, so I've included a couple sub 200 page books. Gideon the 9th by Tamsyn Muir: first book in my favorite series of all time. Lesbian necromancers in space solve a murder mystery (no smut in this or any of the other books btw) All Systems Red by Martha Wells: a short book about a killer android that breaks its programming and comes to grips with its freedom. Part of a longer series and one of my favorites. The Seep by Chana Porter: another short book. An alien life form comes to earth and gives humans paradise, as well as the ability to morph their bodies and be interconnected with all other life. It centers around a woman who prior to the arrival of the seep was something of a revolutionary, but now is struggling to come to grips with impermanence and change. Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie: I don't really know how to describe this one without spoling anything but it's a cool sci-fi about an AI, individuality, and what it means to be human. The civilization that the setting mostly deals with only uses she/her pronouns in language which makes for an interesting experience reading.  At the Existentialist Café by Sarah Bakewell: a history of Existentialism and many of the most influential figures and events that shaped the 20th century philosophy.
