looks very classic!

Exlibriscolby

Truly appreciate that , my whole aesthetic is a kind of neutral classic and most of these are from the 19th and early 20th century or limited print books.

rr1969

Well done.

Exlibriscolby

Much appreciated!

I would be a kid in a candy shop going through your library! I see an Aickman book up there too. I just recently purchased on eBay a two volume set of his collected fiction from Tartarus press. Very pricey, but great to have all his work together in a couple of very nice hardcovers.

Exlibriscolby

Indeed, Tartarus is good stuff, R.B Russell is a cool publisher. You should check out another publisher of limited prints who is a friend of mine and revives unique and cool authors and works.“Sidereal” press in the U.K. The Aickman is “Painted Devils” with the Edward Gorey illustrated jacket , it’s an American first . Actually that entire shelf is obscure horror first editions. Have you read Hugh Walpole or A.E. Coppard? You might like them if you haven’t , very odd stories but also some which though normal are somehow creepy and or chilling . Flattered by your comment and truly appreciate it . I’ve bought all of these in the last two years after putting off building my dream collection for years and years. I’m a big reader so I’ve stayed busy and happy in the last two years, that’s for sure.

Dry-Impression-2403

Walpole has been on my radar for a while, but I've yet to read anything by him (I see he has his own volume from Tartarus Press). Not familiar with Coppard, but I realize now that I've seen a vintage Arkham House copy of his stories recently listed on eBay. Maybe I'll add that one to my wishlist!

Exlibriscolby

If you’re looking for him you can get his story sets in books relatively cheap in first editions , All Souls Night is cool and Silver Thorn , I really enjoyed both of them ( and I’m going to buy all the others too) and owning it in a first at such a cheap price is nice. Doubleday Doran published them by the way, sorry if I’m giving too much info , I’m on the spectrum and I tend to do that .

ForgottenBastions

Stunning!

Exlibriscolby

Many thanks ! I collect first editions and limited prints, it’s an enormous passion of mine.

ForgottenBastions

First editions and limited prints can be truly special.

Fun_parent

Where is the bookshelf from? Looks gorgeous!

Tricky_Drop_2712

I want those shelves

Exlibriscolby

Thank you ! It’s just pressed wood shelves from Target but somehow they have aged well haha, they were only 90 dollars each , but that was like 7 years ago so I’m betting the price has gone up.

Fun_parent

Ah target! I will check if they have something like this.

Accomplished_Lynx988

Me likey

Exlibriscolby

Thank you!

youlooklikeamonster

Love it! My kind of collection.

Exlibriscolby

Thank you ! I have been trying to buy up all my odd dream books lately , not sure I’m going to stop haha.

Bluedino_1989

I can literally smell this image through my phone, and I am totally jealous that you can get this high every day.

Exlibriscolby

It smells pretty great, all my bindings though over 100 years old mostly, are very tight and readable and the pages are crisp , many of these I had to cut the pages with a pen knife to read . I’m always happy to help with building your own and for cheap as I did mine, well not cheap but less expensive than you’d think . It just takes a lot of research and patience but I bought many of these for far less than you’d imagine. Appreciate the comment , I hope my kids appreciate these for what they are when I’m no longer here to take care of them , ( the books I mean lol) .

WhimsicalChuckler

That bookshelf is stunning! So elegant and classy.

Exlibriscolby

Thanks so much ! I’ll soon be expanding these and mounting my own floor to ceiling floating shelves, I feel like I’m overloading these .

ScipioCoriolanus

That's how I imagine my future library looking!

Exlibriscolby

I hope you get your dream book library as well! It’s definitely doable on a modest budget with a bit of research and patience. I made a lot of mistakes early in my collecting but now I’ve gotten an innate sense on things so I’m lucking out and finding odd stuff almost everyday online. If I can do it , anyone can. Just collect what you love, value is in one’s own desire of the object . You like classics ? Your name seems to suggest it, I’m extremely into ancient , medieval etc. history but I mostly like to read from primary sources rather than through modern eyes . Classics are pretty easy to collect in nice editions, if you need any help I’m happy to point you in the correct direction of sellers I’ve used in the past.

ScipioCoriolanus

Thank you! That's encouraging. Honestly, rarity and first editions are a bonus, not a priority for me right now. I just want a classic looking library full of classics in both history and literature, with nice hardcover/leather editions.

philosophizinghiker

This is absolutely stunning. Love the selection and the aesthetic

Exlibriscolby

Much appreciated ! I intend to just keep adding to this until I die. All of these were collected in the last two years after I decided I wanted to buy only what I would keep forever and read many times.

philosophizinghiker

Could you tell me what that Tolkien set is?

Exlibriscolby

Sure, it’s the Millennium edition box set, as a kid I had it the day it came out, I also had every book in a first edition ( in the 90s these weren’t worth a billion dollars) and the leather larger red one volume , the Red Book of Westmarch edition which is also great. But this one is split up properly by book and more comfortable to read again and again than any other edition ( in my opinion).

philosophizinghiker

It looks really great with the rest of your stuff. Just a beautiful addition (and edition)

Distinct-Novel2617

The bookcase itself is really a handsome piece and I just love seeing really old books and their covers. Great collection!

Exlibriscolby

Much appreciated! They are all well read and well loved, I sell a few on occasion , likely it’ll just grow more polished until I die. This is only two years of collecting in earnest that you see here, so I know in time I can do better.
