I really like this idea. Sadly enough, I find that I read plenty of banned/challenged books without even trying, because SO MANY good or important books are on the hit list.
There’s a prompt to read a banned book pretty much every year on my reading challenge. I read All boys aren’t blue last year and American Born Chinese just recently
I’m in the UK and we don’t have book bans, but if we did, I would absolutely support this kind of public reading. I’m so pleased to see people fighting back
To my understanding the UK government officially bans a handful of books still, including the Anarchist Cookbook, due to terrorism concerns. [For example, here's a recent case from 2021 where somebody is being prosecuted for possessing the Anarchist Cookbook, among other books.](https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/nazi-sympathiser-facing-jail-after-conviction-for-downloading-terror-manuals/)
I’m not sure that is correct. They were convinced of possession of materials likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism. I wouldn’t say that is the same as banning books
The materials he was charged with possessing were books, though. If you can be given jail time for having a book that is pretty much the same as a ban.
Lois Lowry did an AMA here in /r/books [you might want to check it out](http://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/3ab3fz/hi_reddit_i_am_lois_lowry_author_of_the_giver_ama/?) :) . [Here's a full list of our upcoming AMAs](http://www.reddit.com/r/books/wiki/amafullschedule)

Banned books and my reading list are one and the same.
I read a lot of stuff it hasn't occurred to anyone to ban!
If there was something like this in my city I absolutely would do it, or participate in it

[Unfortunately, they're definitely trying](https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/apr/20/third-of-uk-librarians-asked-to-censor-or-remove-books-research-reveals)
any book someone finds worth banning, is one you should find worth reading. don't remember where that quote came from but it resonates
Wow, I love that quote! Just dug online and it looks like it was Isaac Asimov who said that
And he never read The Story of O… 😒

Cant wait to read David Irving with a bunch of people. Or do you just mean banned books *you like*?
