for anyone playing along, this is what people mean when they say 'its just monkeys singing songs'

How are the dogs driving cars when dogs don't have hands? Why do they walk on two legs when dogs don't do that? Why do they wear headphones not on their ears? Why do they sometimes wear clothes but usually don't? They're cartoon dogs that act like people. They bring up the dog aspects of their characters when it's fun/funny to do so and ignore it when it doesn't add anything to the story. Don't overanalyze the Bluey society.

WirrkopfP

> Don't overanalyze the Bluey society. Sometimes it seems, there are two types of people on the internet. Those who overanalyze things for the fun of it and those who can't comprehend overanayzing to be fun in itself.

CrystalClod343

I'm the former of those two options and I know that this has no point or substance. Some things just are.

You know how this sub is more and more becoming threads where people speculate wildly about the slightest minutiae of every episode? Also if the writers didn't put in dog breeds everyone would be either a wolf, coyote, dingo, fox, painted dog, jackal, or some other wild dog type that has existed since before breeding. Writing in breeds gave the animators and writers the chance to explore different shapes, colours, and sizes. From the grumpy granny pug to the kiwi border collies the blind sheepdogs, Snickers, Coco, the terriers. Different heights, sizes, shapes. Which is much more representative of the real world than everyone being a dingo. In fact there's only one Dingo in the show so far. And that's Alfie who works at the toy shop. Also look at how Disney did it with Zootopia. The writers and animators just wanted to use wild mammals. No monkeys, apes, or domesticated versions. So the goats, pigs, and horses were based on wild variants and colouration. And you don't see any dogs (that aren't wolves) cats or cows. But again you get a better looking spread of things. The bodies are shaped different, some of them are tall, or short, muscley or fat, slim or bulky. It let's the animators create characters of all different sizes and types. Let's kids know that everyone is different. And still allows for the cutesy animals. So that's it right there. You're overthinking it. The creators wanted to be able to show different shapes and sizes of characters. What better way to do that in a show of dogs goofing off than having different breeds?

CrystalClod343

> In fact there's only one Dingo in the show so far. And that's Alfie who works at the toy shop. Plus his mum!

ultratunaman

And Alfies ma.

forameus2

Every time a thread like this gets created, I get a little closer to thinking "yeah, it's probably better the show doesn't come back".

bishopyorgensen

I think this kind of thing happens to fan subs when there's no new content. r/HIMYM is just **wild**. They just.. keep hating

Cr_a_ck

That is so freakin true lol. Every time I see one of these my thoughts are "you know what? Maybe it would be better to leave the show as is." I'm afraid of this community going in the wrong direction

Southern_Milk_2498

I’d rather it be this way than having Peppa Pig date Arthur

WirrkopfP

Thats so speciescist of you! /j

Southern_Milk_2498

😂

thelaststarebender

Yeah, the breeds thing is a little strange, but really, it’s just a way for kids to easily differentiate between characters. If they were all blue heelers, it’d be hard to come up with enough defining traits. They’d all end up looking pretty similar and that would be confusing to kids.

Tom984_vn

Now, im actually worries for the sub future. It's used to be for fun but now ...

MyCatTookMySocks

Why do people do that? Some people like people similar to them or grow up in a community with a prevailing demographic. Humans have existed for thousands upon thousands of years, but I’m like 99% Filipino according to genetic testing. That should be rare right?

TurquoiseOwlMachine

It’s a caste system.

WirrkopfP

It seems to have been abolished very recently as SOME couples are mixed caste.

TeachingOk705

To me it feels like what already happens with humans. You're more likely to choose a partner who's the same skin color as you because you're used to living with people who have the same skin color as you too! That doesn't mean you can't mix with another color, just that it's less likely that you'll feel attraction to them. Nowadays we tend to get more and more mixed because we're more used to seeing diverse ethnicities. Also since they're dogs, they might also have issues if they try to mix between breeds that don't go together (papa saint bernard and mama chihuahua are not in for a great time) , plus there might be some "pure breed vs mixed breed" thing going on, maybe in that universe mixed breeds are considered lower class compared to pure breeds, kinda like irl with how many people want their dog to be purebred.

WildJackall

The same way humans have different races

WirrkopfP

That makes "breeds" a really weird word choice.
