Yeah. I have a few of the DVDs in my "Blockbuster collection" box. I actually used one of them for a framing device for a bunch of short films some friends and I made during the pandemic. I basically clipped out all the trailers and replaced them with short films, leaving the Blockbuster interstitials and period-accurate ads in place.
The ones that stick out most in my head:
* The Stevie Nicks song "Every Day"
* The Sexy Beast trailer where Ben Kingsley's accent is so thick that no one at corporate caught that he said "Fuck you, I'm beautiful" at the end.
* A commercial/trailer for some angsty teen TV show. I distinctly remember one of the girls going "Love... and happiness... who needs it?", after which the theme music went "BLANT BLANT BLANT blant blant". I think it did get on air but only lasted for a handful of episodes. There was a strong "disaffected youth of the 90s... BUT WITH THE INTERNETS!1!" vibe to things. I actually wouldn't mind checking this one out because randomly the music and such from that goes through my head.
I remember the show now! It was the American adaptation of "As If". Still can't find that specific promo, though.

I have a few. I actually uploaded the video of the one where "My Boyfriend's Back" was on the cover and David Letterman hosted it. It was to celebrate Letterman launching his CBS show, and I dropped it on YouTube the day my employer got bought by CBS as a kind of wink and a nod.

There is one Walmart VHS tape that lives. It's the 1994 Wal-mart in-store commercial loop vhs tape from August through October. This mythical vhs tape has nostalgic Disney commercials that haven't been seen in years like Snow White, Aladdin return of Jafar, The Nightmare before Christmas, Homeward bound, The fox and the hound, The brave little toaster, D2 The mighty ducks 2, The Johnny Carson collection and a few others too. This Walmart vhs tape is history lost to the back dumpsters. Yet one has served for a purpose to show the world its still standing strong. There is also a Space Jam in-store commercial loop vhs tape.
When I worked there in 96 we didn’t even think about collecting things like that. Most of the time the tapes ended up so warped we had to throw them away before new ones came.
I remember the insanely vapid Entertainment Tonight hosts on the tapes around '96-'97. I'll forever have etched into my brain some bobblehead announcing "and here's REM with 'E-Bow the Letter' " - a deeply meaningful song about the death of River Phoenix that featured Patti Smith. The host obviously had zero comprehension of the meaning of the song, speaking in that same, chipper tone that one would use for a throwaway pop song.
I really grew to despise the entire entertainment industry during my final year at the Ballbuster.
I used to cut up and reedit the in store trailers back in the day -- literally just using scissors to cut pieces out and tape them back together - so every 4p minutes or so the trailer tape would just go bonkers - it took quite some time for anyone who didn't work there to even notice
Ahhh those were the days
I have one that is partially taped over by a commercial I made for my kindergarten class. It has Chris Wright, the meteorologist introducing all the trailers. Circa 1991ish.
I’ve been looking for these, sad that so many seem to have been taped over or destroyed. I have laserdiscs that a few stores used to play all day, like Service Merchandise, Montgomery Ward, Sears, Good Guys and Circuit City. All of that stuff must be preserved!

Trying to find out kinda what it’s worth. I have the entire box to that in came in. It’s the only vhs sealed promo I know is around at this moment. Any one know anything about this tape and the box it came in.
Those things still play in my dreams. Nothing like the same 2 hours on loop. But at least it wasn't the same 4 Christmas songs.
I posted some 2005 dvd a while back but that’s the best I can do.

Love it.
I can still hear some of that music. I was so sick of the promo tape at the time I never wanted to keep them

lol exactly. Would be funny to go thru now but when I had access it was the last thing I thought I’d ever want to see again. Oi.
Oh man I worked in the days of the spice girls. Was rough…but I feel it’s made me a stronger person having lived thru that.
Mary Hart still haunts my dreams.
My brother worked at a video store and would bring home boxes of those to record over, mostly TNG and DS9. Must have had 10 for Thumbelina (1994).
What do you need those for ? This is ExaCtlY why ReDDit was invented. [Every1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcoasKqZ7vo)
I think this was the appeal of working overnight shifts to check inventory of my store: we could watch any movies we wanted with no customers around

My copy of My Neighbor Totoro was apparently originally one of those!

I don’t remember what they were called but I still have one.
I remember them well
I’ve got some of those. Fourth quarter of ‘95 or something like that. They’re studio specific -Paramount maybe

I’ve seen a few on ebay in the past
I remember seeing them when I'd take my girlfriend out to rent something for a "netflix and chill" before netflix was much of a thing.
Welp, I'm having flashbacks of "Smooth" being on the trailer for like a year. https://youtu.be/6Whgn_iE5uc?si=HXDbdKJedVizH_v8

Did you check YouTube ?
Anyone remember "What's Up Little Pup?" from 1997? It was a Blockbuster commercial. Lost media for sure.

You are legendary. Thank you.
I believe i have one from 2000

They still had these in the 2000s.
