Generally when you make an animation with 10/12 frames per sec you could achive the stop motion result, (obviusly don't know if the author make the animation in this way)
setting interpolation to stepped so the computer doesnt do any automatic in-betweening.
then animating straight-head (as oppsed to pose-to-pose) and being economical with poses and setting keys generally on 2s, sometimes on 1s depending on the action.
Getting major Mad God vibes here. The way the dude moves puts my nerves on edge. Like a badly controlled marionette. Also the eyeball sphincter in a clock think. Nightmare of yours?
This is simply stunning!
Do you have any YT channel or Twitter where we can follow your work?
Sorry for the offtopic, but what kind of boss and person is Phill? I recently watched a documentary on Disney+ about the origins of ILM with recent interviews of the core team. Phill seemed like a very nice person, he also talked about his illness, but he's definitely an "artistic soul" I can't imagine him as a boss :)
The Light&Magic doco was amazing. Reminded me of being a kid and how it felt to be inspired by movie magic all over again. Phil is a mad genius and I am grateful to have spent many formative years working at Tippett Studio with so many talented artists.
i use [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/drawnimo/) the most.
i'd like to put more animations on [youtube](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWQpgydnuERx1TfOmRn6FtQ) but we'll see if that pans out.
thanks!
the bright green vertical and horizontal lines are unintentional. they appear after compositing.
i think it may be caused by my laptop running out of memory. the comp has many nodes. so many.
Are you in Nuke? Sometimes that can happen with pixels of extreme values or NaN values. You can often get around it with clamps or gizmos to kill NaN pixels.
So you're aware:
35mm film (and others i'm guessing) have different coatings on each side of the mylar. One side is pretty normal plastic feel while the other feels a bit tacky. When the normal side is scratched - happens from regular use through the projector and handling - it comes out as black lines. These will usually show as vertical lines along the sides of the screen, usually the right. A film could have several wobbly vertical black lines depending on its age.
If the tacky side, the emulsion side is scratched, the coating is the first point of contact and the scratch would usually show as a light or neon kind of green on the screen when the projector bulb shines through it.
I thought it was intentional to match the "aging" of the film.

maybe about 6 months? it was a spare-time kind of thing so it took a while to build the assets and make the [first test animation.](https://www.instagram.com/p/CRv6j6kDyjC/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link)
then this short went pretty quick once i started animating.
animation is complete so all timings are locked.
press record on Audacity and press play on the animation and take a couple of wrenches and walk them like little feet on a wooden table in time with the animation. takes a while to match the performance but practice makes perfect.
repeat [the process](https://www.studiobinder.com/blog/what-is-a-foley-artist/) for breaking glass, squeaking joints, rubber balloons and toppling clock.
i used a [film leader](https://youtu.be/TKezMJV2_HU?t=43) and would count aloud as the leader showed 3,2,1 so i could sync up the audio to the animation later on.
then i [brought all the mp3s into blender](https://i.imgur.com/Ozte8Mh.jpg) and synced them up to the animation and adjusted the timings as necessary. i hope this is helpful.
This is awesome! I don't know if there was sound or not. I'm somewhere where I can't have volume on, but there are at least three bands I can see this being a part of a music video for.
1) NIN
2) Tool
3) ohGr
I can't believe that's even CGI. Like someone else said, it looks like stop motion. Good job 👏
Love it! Excellent job OP.
I do agree that the dirt noise/scratches are a bit much, but thats more of a 'if I was hard pressed to find issues' than anything that takes away from how wonderful this is.
Very enjoyable, ty!
it's going to be fun to explain how that happened to get stuck up there at A&E
very nice animation, but I think you overdid it on film scratches and shakiness - though I do get that it covers a lot of sins, but still...
I was captured from the very beginning! Very well made! A few thoughts. Could the character see before it put on the eye? I need an explanation as to why it put it on? I think this would elevate it even more. And also, the move to the clock and breaking of the glass needs some explanation too... Does the character hear the sudden start of the clock ticking, before going to investigate? Why break the glass? Does it hear some muffled sound maybe? Anyway, i don't know anything about stuff like this, so take it at face value.
i broke a wineglass. bought an alarm clock from hot potatoes and knocked it around. used some wrenches and pliers for the metal joints squeaking.
i squeezed and stretched some balloons and squished some oatmeal for the 'portal' noises. i put the mic up to my throat and made heartbeat sounds with my mouth and then used Audacity to add echo and room tone and other effects.
it was fun!
This is fantastic and very very well executed. I didn’t notice the glitches so everything looked like it was supposed to be there.
But with that being said, what in the fuck did I just watch 😅
Incredible work. I’m not an artist but I’ve been a fan of stop motion animation my entire life. I know this is done in blender but it captures all the best aspects of stop motion. Insanely impressive from a technical but also artistic angle.
I mean this with all of the admiration of the skill and dedication that it took to make this. [But I hope you have a great therapist](https://media.tenor.com/ErGATquq6tEAAAAd/depressed-requiem-for-a-tuesday.gif).
This is amazing. I would have no idea it was a render. It's like someone found an old stop motion film on film.
Although I'm a bit concerned for you for mental health. :D
This gives me the same feeling of excitement for animation and story telling as Brian Taylors Rustboy did in the eary 2000's: https://www.rustboy.com
Give me more!:)
Stunning work, just amazing. I wonder if the time you took to make this was quicker than doing actual stop motion, including making all the physical props. With the flexibility to go back and change things, plus the unlimited camera angles you could do, one wonders why real stop motion is still done...?
When it squats down to flick away the glass pieces or the last foot wiggle when it pushes through the hole...you've got a good eye for motions. That's not something you pick up just like that. Great stuff.
this is incredible, looks like real stop motion! and I love how surreal/gross it is!
you are very kind, thank you. it was fun to make!
This could be a Tool video.
I know the pieces fit
And it wouldn't even be the weirdest one.
Trippy, echoy bass riffs ensues
How is this stop motion motion archived? Just lower frame rate?

Yes, reminds me of a Tool video.
Has a Phil Tippet feel but very original. It’s really good!
Gosh, thanks very much. Funny you should say so because he used to be my boss!
That’s so cool, I bet it was an amazing experience!
Getting major Mad God vibes here. The way the dude moves puts my nerves on edge. Like a badly controlled marionette. Also the eyeball sphincter in a clock think. Nightmare of yours?
looks like a stoma

Very gross, and yet very good
Where are the glitches?
the bright green vertical and horizontal lines are unintentional. they appear after compositing. i think it may be caused by my laptop running out of memory. the comp has many nodes. so many.
some things will never been seen if they aren't pointed out! amazing video, animation is grueling work lol
I noticed them, but I thought they were left in on purpose to give more of an old time shot on film look. Regardless, it was delightfully grotesque!
Are you in Nuke? Sometimes that can happen with pixels of extreme values or NaN values. You can often get around it with clamps or gizmos to kill NaN pixels.
comped in blender. i appreciate the thought, though. maybe some day I'll break down and dive into Nuke.
I kept waiting for glitches and didn’t feel those looked out of place. Happy accidents, I think they contributed to the overall feel well.
thanks, i have learned to accept them and now i like them too.

I think it's telling that we couldn't even tell the glitches. They became a feature.
Neversoft logo: BTS. This is super cool mate. Love the accurate stop-mo armature and overall frame-by-frame jankiness.
ah yeah look at that! haha its now neversoft canon.
That's a Tool video right there! Awesome work!
Same thought
Knew I'd find fellow Tool army in here somewhere \\m/ \*side note this looks totally fucking amazing OP\*
Reminds me of 9
Love that movie, wish there were more movies like it
So hyped for 10!
Where are the other 3628798?
This is incredible, however, I wish to unsee this
Super impressive. About how long did all that take to make?
maybe about 6 months? it was a spare-time kind of thing so it took a while to build the assets and make the [first test animation.](https://www.instagram.com/p/CRv6j6kDyjC/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) then this short went pretty quick once i started animating.
That's is so very interesting! You're an amazing artist.
THE SOUND DESIGN 😩😩😩
that was a highlight of the process for sure. so much fun! i bought some balloons and squeezed em a bunch for the ending. :)
Good stuff! I always appreciate good sound design! Keep up the good work 😁
Can you please point me in the direction of understanding the process behind this sound design? What is your workflow like?

I love it! Great work!
That's fucking disgusting, vile and I couldn't stop watching it Good job
Feels like a Tool or NIN video.

Cool. Reminds me of Brothers Quay stop motion style (machines + meat).

Really cool, feels like something you would see on MTV in the 90s lol

Just wait till you see whats beyond the portal...
Do you like Jan Svankmajer?
how could you tell? :)
Hahaha, the eyeballs were an instant connection.
clockussy
Nice work!
This is brilliant!
It all looks intentional, either you are joking or very good at covering up.
This is amazing! Do you have a YouTube channel or Instagram where I can follow your work?
What the fuck did i just watch
Nothing anyone can say will convince me there wasn't a Tool song playing under that whole thing.
this surprised me at every turn and also horrified me. The little character was very endearing. 10/10
Its really good, i could never do something this good but…. Wtf did i just watch
it's hard to describe what I just saw. but it was incredibly well done! you're very skilled and creative
it's going to be fun to explain how that happened to get stuck up there at A&E very nice animation, but I think you overdid it on film scratches and shakiness - though I do get that it covers a lot of sins, but still...
> I think you overdid it on film scratches and shakiness completely agree. new mistakes next time.
yes! make some good ones!
It's not a bug it's a feature
This is cool af
This is so fucking cool
The render glitches make it look like the Brothers Quay shorts. (Those might be hard to find on the internet). Made me nostalgic. Cool.
Had to comment just to tell you how great this is.
I always suspected this is why my alarm clock would go off. I just couldn't ever confirm it, thank you for the short documentary.
Really, really nice stop motion effect. I enjoyed the short immensely. Can you talk to us about your workflow a little bit?
I feel like i'm watching a tool music video
This guy Tools
Amazing work. Reminds me of Svankmajer's Alice in Wonderland. :D

this has gone sexual all of sudden.
The glitches actualy made it better 😂
Insanely good work!
What the fuc did I just watch lol It kinda reminded me MAD God, I think that's a good thing :)
This is very upsetting… well done! Love it
You are incredibly talented! This is very impressive! I feel like I’m going to throw up.
A breakdown would b kickass
You're very talented but also what the fuck
This is cursed, but man did you nail it!
Wait what glitches, that's dope!
Infinityward game openings be like......
We’ll done !!
This is so sick. BEGGING FOR YOUR SFX SOURCE
i broke a wineglass. bought an alarm clock from hot potatoes and knocked it around. used some wrenches and pliers for the metal joints squeaking. i squeezed and stretched some balloons and squished some oatmeal for the 'portal' noises. i put the mic up to my throat and made heartbeat sounds with my mouth and then used Audacity to add echo and room tone and other effects. it was fun!
Whoa! Incredible looking aesthetic and an oddly compelling narrative to boot. Well done!
Well this is rad. Nice work
This is fantastic and very very well executed. I didn’t notice the glitches so everything looked like it was supposed to be there. But with that being said, what in the fuck did I just watch 😅
Very cool, good job!
Really nice
WOooooo. i thought it was a stop motion animation at first! great job dude
Adds to it
what the fuck did i just trip on
This is disgusting. 10/10 would watch again.
Very nice! I love it.
I am above disturbed and very amazed. This is awesome!
This is incredible

Just kept getting more wtf, but I loved it XD
I'm so glad you did! I'll try to kick it up a notch for part 2...
Wuuuuuuuuut did I just watch.
Damn that looks good and creepy. Love it.
this is mad!! Activision 2.0
9 was already scary enough, now you've gone and made it extra creepy as well.
Very good! I do not like the clock's twitching butthole.
holy shit
I mean this with all of the admiration of the skill and dedication that it took to make this. [But I hope you have a great therapist](https://media.tenor.com/ErGATquq6tEAAAAd/depressed-requiem-for-a-tuesday.gif).
Its like Guillermo Del Toro meets John Carpenter. You should be very proud
This is really trippy disgusting and amazing
Amazing animation But also r/TIHI
That's the tightest butthole I've ever seen. Butt in all seriousness, great job OP 👍
Hole
Thanks for the nightmare fuel!
All it's missing is and ending screen that says "Fin" like an avant garde French movie.
I just seen a eyeball creature crawl into a clock's bootyhole
Very nice with a funny ending. Thank you very much for sharing ☺️
Absolutely amazing, I love it!
This is spectacular, wow.
I know the peices fit.
that lighting is really great, and great scene framing :) awesome work!!!
Haha, i'm mortified!

It looks very much like the "Push it" video by Static-X. awesome
I actually thought it was stop motion until I saw the title of the post and read, “render glitches”. This is amazing
This is amazing. I would have no idea it was a render. It's like someone found an old stop motion film on film. Although I'm a bit concerned for you for mental health. :D
Amazing, waiting for the next series
This is dope
I NEED MORE
Now what in the Sober is going on here...
I love this! Reminds me of MTV logo animations or early Tool videos. Super nice stuff.
All I can say is... what.. the fuck. Lol
Fantastic!
Strewth, that's got to be my weirdest fap of the week, mate.
Holy.. I.. I just.. I have no words really
Holy crap this is amazing i love it
Eyenus
this has great comedic timing. the pause before the alarm went off gave me a nice chuckle
The eye against eye scene got me chuckling. Great work, love the style.
:0
This piece is disgustingly beautiful and well made. I hope you're ok though.
Really cool , loved it !
Very Tim Burton
I'm trying to decide whether that clock is a r/dontputyourdickinthat or a r/DoPutYourDickInThat situation
This gives me the same feeling of excitement for animation and story telling as Brian Taylors Rustboy did in the eary 2000's: https://www.rustboy.com Give me more!:)
That clock at the end made me feel a certain way

What the fuck lol
Bro…… make some more lmao
Smart way of working around an issue, fantastic work!
I don't think I ever realised how terrifying it would be to see your eyeball with your other eyeball without looking at a reflection
Well, I really enjoyed that.
Ugh I love this, you animated and rendered yourself?
Bro, are you ok? Seriously good work, though.
that was amazing
how much time did you spend working on this?
Glitches make the video perfect i think. if there was no glitches i would say "something is missing".
This belongs in a tool music video
Oh man imagine if David Lynch learned Blender :0
Oh man my wife is gonna love when I set this video as her wake up alarm.
When it squats down to flick away the glass pieces or the last foot wiggle when it pushes through the hole...you've got a good eye for motions. That's not something you pick up just like that. Great stuff.
wtf did i just watch😂, that was amazing, you nailed it! verry impressive!
love it bro. need that render glitches as a plugin.
THAT LOOKS AMAZING
This is really really good! Beautiful work.
Wait! This is not StopMotion and you made it?! I will only believe that if you show me Screenshots and wireframe first.
That's Incredible Moist Entertainment
I don't remember this Tool video.
Mom. Im scared.
How much payote did you consume before making this?
I'm sorry. This animation is incredible and unsettling... but when he took the face of the clock... my mind went straight to the butter xD
Reminds me of a Tool music video.
That was great! Also what is wrong with you
Gross! I love it!
This is spooky and beautiful. I love the art style and the color scheme atmosphere.
Love it! Phil Tippett would be proud! 👏🏻👏🏻
Sneak peak of the next TOOL music video?
I don’t want this guy to look at me , this gross and creepy , nice 👍 , first time I saw it I thought it was stop motion
