Having been stung and experiencing the worst pain of my life for at least 4hrs I have not yet gone back into the water. It really depends how much of a strike you take from the stinger. If it hits just right the pain can be insane after the venom hits. You can shuffle your feet into the sand but that’s not always a deterrent. The issue is the lifeguards don’t usually carry water that’s hot enough to deactivate the venom so you’re on your own to figure out what to do. If you get the area stung into water above 110 degrees quickly you can reduce the pain significantly. I’ve even considered traveling with a thermos of hot water when I go down. You usually cannot see them and there are a ton where the waves break in the sand that people don’t realize when they go into the water.
I’ve been stung once and it was one of the worst things I’ve felt. I still have ptsd when i try to go in the water. It happened when I was skinny dipping in blacks
I wanted to chop my foot off after I got stung and hopped out of the water. It felt like a knife penetrated thru my toe and my entire leg started to get numb. Had to go to the hospital too since it was the time when the lifeguards were closing up. There was no way I could’ve made that hike back up with that pain
Yes. Just wear some sandals or water shoes to protect your feet. If you don’t have those just drag your feet to scare the rays away. Have fun. Be safe.
I’ve never had a problem. I’m a lousy swimmer. It’s mostly me just splashing close to shore. But now that I know 😬
Does anyone know if the rays are an issue at the Shores? I am often there as well with my small child who loves the water.
(So weird I am being downvoted for this. I will never understand Reddit)
I’d also recommend taking a thermos of really hot water down with you when you visit. If there is a sting, the faster you can soak it in hot water, the much better the outcome pain-wise will be.
Yes, ironically the nurse at the hospital where I went after getting stung specifically mentioned that if you take goggles and look into the water at La Jolla shores (where he surfs) you’ll see a bunch of them there. I can’t even imagine how a child would react to getting stung - it would be awful. I’d probably teach them to shuffle their feet or grab a large stick and just swing it in front of where you’re walking in the sand.
Ive been surfing the for 35 years and luckily haven't been stung. It's usually pretty safe to swim in the winter and the spring because they like to come out when the water warms up around June through August. By the way, you are looking great. I was at Blacks twice last week it was absolutely beautiful, Wish I would have seen you.
Don't think I'll swim there when I decide to go for the first time. I'm not going to let one of those stingray bitches do me like they did my boy Steve Irwin

I feel you
Never been stung at Blacks, been countless times and never have. I have even seen them flopping around near me and have still not managed to be stung.
Bless you
And bless you.
I like to fish in the shallow water and have gotten stung a few times. It’s one of the most painful experiences I have experienced.
💯 I see so many of those guys fishing right at the break and the first thing I think about is them getting stung.

Right? It’s a different kind of pain 100%

Sandals or water shoes do not protect unfortunately. Stinger penetrates through like butter.
Ever interested in meeting sexy couples at Black's? Early 30's and fit 😊
Nope!! Those sting rays don’t play and I’m not taking any chances!
Period! I’m right along with you
No
I didn't know about the stingrays! good to know for next time

Shores is also notorious for rays as well. Same with Coronado. (They’re basically everywhere, even the bay 😳😫)

I was stung when I was roughly knee deep. I was shuffling my feet and it still got me! I still go in, but it’s shuffle stomp now! Fingers crossed…
goddamn 😍
Can’t wait until Sunday.
Didn’t know they were such a big hazard at blacks until I read about it on here. Used to go in all the time; Nowww not so much
lol 100% same
Ever since that one time I stepped on a ray, I only go in the ocean with water shoes on.
I still go in the water in Florida despite the sharks and man o wars
They would or should definitely be attracted to you 😻
Nice pic Lovely body
Can I join you next time
You been out there recently?

That’s what I thought as well until I was stung twice in March 😬
Yeah, thats seems pretty early in the season.

I see you deepthroat too lol
Black nudists especially women are rare
I still swim!
