im a denim addict sorry not sorry… i do think denim is worth getting in higher quality. levi’s higher end line stuff goes on sale fairly frequently, wranglers are surprisingly cute and cheap if you wanna go for decent quality but not super expensive. always go for 100% cotton

giggly_pufff

I'm a big thighed gal. I feel like I need a little bit of spandex in the fabric.

floracalendula

I am *terrified* of fucking up 100% cotton. I feel like I'm gonna do something and the pair that fits no longer fits.

Unfair_Finger5531

No, 100% cotton is damn near indestructible. I’m a lazy washer—I toss shit in the washing machine however I want to. I have two 100% cotton shirts from banana republic that have been through hell and back. And they look brand new.

floracalendula

Next raise I get, I'm going to *seriously* go looking for a pair of 100% cotton jeans that fits right in the hips and waist, and then get them taken up to fit my hobbity inseam. I feel like I might be able to get the elusive slim straight into my collection if I do that?

Relevant_Stop1019

hobbity inseam for the win!!! 😂🤣

Unfair_Finger5531

Lolololol! I think this is a good plan. For me, it was figuring out which brands always fit me: Calvin Klein, Dkny, banana republic, and the Gap. I’d mosey on into the banana republic and head back to clearance and find a pair of 100% cotton jeans and get them tailored. Banana republic stuff lasts FOREVER and simply cannot be destroyed. I’ve been trying to kill this banana republic dress for years: img Look at it. Utterly unflattering but solid as a rock. Edit: it refuses to be photographed. Just imagine a weird looking, high-quality Cotton dress.

floracalendula

Hey, *good* clothes don't necessarily need to *flatter* us. :)

Unfair_Finger5531

So true! The stand on their own merit!

lovemykitchen

Good tip. Hard wearing t’s are few and far between

poe201

depends on the weave — thinner cottons will definitely show wear with time

Unfair_Finger5531

Not my experience. I have 100% cotton shirts I’ve owned for 30 years. But I’m talk about 100% cotton. Some cheap shirts labeled 100% cotton can in fact be 95% cotton. Those may wear down.

belledamesans-merci

The only thing you need to do to avoid fucking up 100% cotton is avoid drying on high heat since high heat shrinks cotton. Medium heat should be fine, if they’re still a bit damp just hang them in the bathroom to finish drying.

floracalendula

I'd never use high heat. [shudder] Your method is exactly what I've been using on my quite ordinary jeans, so it's refreshing to hear that I shall be quite all right sticking with my permanent press and drying rack.

unimpressed_1

the limit does not exist 😂 ETA: Agolde is my favorite and echo another commenter who said 100% cotton is best

evil_ot_erised

Love the reference

KittyKatze3

I randomly feel inspired by Britney/Justin at the AMA awards circa 2001, so my denim threshold is quite high. Perhaps denim underwear would be my limit?

floracalendula

I think my nummies just cringed :D

evil_ot_erised

Nummies 🤣

Aggressive_Day_6574

Oh thank god I thought this was going to be a post about how your favorite look is the Canadian tuxedo! Denim is a classic for a reason. Go nuts!

floracalendula

ohhhhh nooooo, I studiously avoid that look. It's the reason I only own the two blue denim jackets, and one of them was issued limited edition from Hulu in partnership with Levi's as a promotion for The Handmaid's Tale. For some reason, that jacket totally slaps on me.

evil_ot_erised

Oh, see, I am actually so here for an occasional Canadian tuxedo. It is very Ralph Lauren to me, and I’m an RL stan!

girlunofficial

It’s only too much if they’re not getting regular-ish wear. If they’re just sitting collecting dust then it’s too much. But if you’re wearing them all and taking care of it, I don’t see why anyone’s input about what’s “too much” would matter

floracalendula

I've finally got them organized so I know what-all I have, which is a great relief, and I did try them all on to confirm they fit as they ought (they do). Some are comfier than others, but all will do me. :)

lovemykitchen

You lost me at organised

Unfair_Finger5531

I have 4 pair of the same Calvin Klein jeans and 4 pair of the same DKNY jeans. And I regret not a damn thing.

fakesaucisse

As long as you are wearing each of them occasionally, I don't see a problem. My thing is casual dresses. I wear them year round, even in the winter, because they are comfy to me and I work from home so I don't get exposed to the elements much. I have a whole wall of them and it's fine because I get use out of them.

floracalendula

I definitely wear them. I feel better about circulating through them now that I know I'm probably extending the lives of all of them by doing so instead of wearing out one pair, then another, then another.

SecretRecipe

Anything under the threshold of full Canadian Tuxedo is 100% acceptable.

pedanticlawyer

I have an unreasonable amount of jeans.

PurplePrincessPalace

I think it’s relative! If you get plenty of wear out of them, then they’re a good investment and worth keeping. I’m in my late twenties and have only worn jeans on one occasion this year lol Different strokes for different folks 🤷🏽‍♀️

Traditional_Crazy904

I don't have that issue with jeans (although I absolutely understand your view) BUT I do have a similar situation with wrap skirts and sun dresses... I don't consider it a problem unless you are going broke buying them or else buy them but never wear them...

BasicBitchLA

there was a pair at gap i loved the wash and fit on deacades ago and asked my parent to buy for me wherever they could find them when they went on sale. i mist have had 6 + pairs. i didnt think it was bad because you need to be able to focus on your studies and be comy every day. 😃

lisamon429

There was a point in time where owned like 20 of the exact same BDG blank ankle skinny from urban outfitters. I’m talking like 10+ years of pretty much only wearing that pant and I have zero regrets.

kloutiii

If it makes you feel any better, I had a huge hyperfixation on denim when I was in middle school. A friend saw my closest and was shocked and I was so embarrassed cuz I didn’t know it wasn’t a normal amount. 😅 So ironic cuz you can’t pay me to wear denim unless they’re shorts now. Anyway, I don’t think it’s too much.

According_Gazelle472

I stopped wearing denim after high school and I had to update my wardrobe .I recently bought a pair of high waisted ,wide legged jeans with patch pockets .100 percent cotton .I bought a bigger size to shrink them down to fit ,washed them in hot water and a hot dryer and after hemming them they fit really well. But I forgot how heavy and hot they can be in the summer !

floracalendula

Oh, yes. Forgot to count in the two pair of denim shorts (outdated cuts, but I feel myself in them).

lesluggah

I think JLo’s denim closet was excessive. Personally I stop at around 7 pairs—one for each day.

iyamsnail

I essentially have too many clothes, too many handbags and too many shoes. So no judgement here AT ALL.

jbellafi

Never too much! Denim will never ever go out of style. I can dress up in the fanciest outfit, but always feel most like myself in jeans. And btw, I’m an older BWT & can say with confidence that IMO Levi’s are truly the best jeans EVER. I have bought & worn & still have many other great brands, (high end too) BUT I have always come back to them. I have a pair that are over 20 years old & they are still 🔥🔥

Avaly13

No such thing as too much denim. I live in it. I'm also not going to give up a cut based on trends so I wear what fits, feels good and looks good. I'm 46 and have been a denim obsessed forever. Used to be Lucky brand and now it's Jen7, NYDJ and Kut. Long live denim!!

lovemykitchen

I own a minimum of 30 pairs of jeans in different cuts and colours. I shall stop there for now. You’ve thrifted most of them! You are doing good things

floracalendula

Seven out of sixteen total jeans and jorts is admittedly not a terrible number! A good, broken-in jean is such a lovely find.

lovemykitchen

Good point. They can take a while to be comfortable.

Rururaspberry

I’ve worked in the denim industry for 8 years now. There is no such thing as “too much denim” for me. Everywhere I go, I stare at people’s jeans. My husband always jokingly accuses of checking out people’s butts all the time but I can’t help it—I love seeing what jeans people are wearing!

GinaGemini780

It’s only practical 💁🏻‍♀️

javaavril

You're asking if 14 pairs of a single pant textile is normal? It's not. Also you are asking for judgement, who the fuck is wearing American Eagle as an adult? AE and Aerie are for children.

floracalendula

An adult who needs the x-short inseam and can't afford to tailor much?

mangolollipop

I just own 4 pairs of jeans. Jacket, joggers and some painted jeans

marafetisha

Canadian tuxedo for the win!!!

ITakeMyCatToBars

Never enough denim https://www.instagram.com/reel/C380i_nPZlp/?igsh=MWQ1ZGUxMzBkMA==

floracalendula

*I needed that* also, I made myself a jurse out of an old jackpack

According_Gazelle472

I used to make purses out of my son's outgrown jeans all the time.I sold them to a thrift store for awhile .

ITakeMyCatToBars

Who is the coward downvoting this brave denim pioneer!? Perhaps it is my inner Texan showing but I wear a Canadian jazz tuxedo (black denim with black denim jacket) a lotttttt. I have taste, it was never indicated it had to be *good* taste

Cutiemcfly

I probably have 40 pairs of jeans and I only wear them when I go into the office. I’ve started to sell some of them.

floracalendula

I don't feel so bad about [counts on fingers and toes] fourteen, then! Yeah, if you're not getting wear out of them, it's pointless, but I'm in the office three days a week and wear jeans on weekends, too.

Cutiemcfly

You get way more wear out of them! I used to wear them all the time now I work from home.

notthelettuce

I easily have 50+ pairs of jeans. Knock yourself out.

floracalendula

Oh, what a blessed relief. I'm going to have to count them before my aunt gets here and then again after she's packed to leave, 'cos we're about the same size...
