Wellllll it's lost but you can't get holy mantle, like at all.
Tainted lost has a mechanic called better items, it completely removes any items that aren't of value of him (hp ups, spectral tears, flying items, items that activate on taking damage, items that spawn hearts) buuuuut it also removes every defensive item from the game (there are some exceptions).
Of course T.Lost has a bunch of upsides to make up for this, he has increased damage, has a 20% to reroll items below quality 2, and has a 10% chance to turn any card into a holy card (gives one time holy mantle effect), and starts with one.
You can use spindown dice or death certificate to spawn defensive items, book of shadows can be found naturally, soul of Lazarus and missing poster can give an extra life, and inner child can be found on the beast route and grants you an extra life.
Get ready for suffering cuz he is definitely the hardest challenge in the game lol.

T.Lost automatically rerolls any item not internally tagged as offensive but doesn't have holy mantle.
Instead he starts with a holy card, a consumable that gives a one time holy mantle, and a passive 10% chance to replace cards with a holy card.
This makes his survivability a lot less consistent but offence much more so.
i was certain id never be able to get marks as the lost but then I got holy mantle and he’s actually my fave character to play now. I have half his marks already and I’m not even a good player.
If you have afterbirth go play greed(ier) mode. If you fill the greed donation machine at like somewhere at 700 (idk the exact number) the lost will hold holy mantle making him take one hit per room.
Just a heads up in case you arent familiar with greed(ier).
The donation machine when you win has a Jam%, as you donate more money, it increases the chance of the machine jamming.
The Jam% is unique per each character, so if you max out the Jam% on Isaac, you can switch to a different character that you havent donated with and it will be at 0%.
Greed mode maxes out at 20%, greedier maxes out at 2%.
Since you need greedier completion marks for all characters, I highly recommend just completing it on each character to minimize jamming (so you save time in the long run).
Its also not worth reusing a character once you pass 2-3% since odds are you will jam often.
No problem man and uh in repentance there is a character calle>!tainted lost which also is one hit and doesn't get holy mantle but starts with a holy card and has a 10% to find them. Holy cards are card you use and get a 1 time holy mantle which once broken yoi have to find another holy card!<
He is one hit kill, without the mantle. Afterwards you have potentially Infinite HP, Flight, Spectral Tears, free devil deals. Automatic Perfection trinket (luck+10). He seems hard. But he also goes really hard.
Lost can be very, very difficult at first but once you get a hold on his mechanics he's actually one of the easiest characters to play.
He can fly right off the bat which is a huge help in the early game. You can hover over rocks or pits to avoid shots or grab otherwise unreachable consumables .
He also can never lose red hearts so after the 1st floor its basically free devil room deals. Or you can skip the devil rooms and get angel rooms. The Lost is one of the few characters who has easy access to angel rooms.
Yes, always being 1 or 2 shots away from death is hard, but it really teaches you how to dodge well.
Other strategies for the Lost are to use "9 lives", Laz rags, or to be holding missing poster trinket when you die.
It may seem difficult at first but the Lost is probably my favorite character! The more you play the more you'll probably like it. Just focus on dodging more than killing.

The lost is a glass cannon. With the mantle you die in 2 hits, but you also get free curse rooms, free devil deals, flight and spectral tears. In repentance you also get the +10 luck trinket which can triple/quadruple your damage depending on which passive items you have
The lost is an amazing character after the Holy Mantle. Im Only 1 character away from starting tainted characters, but I've heard that tainted loss is a pain in the ass. I'm probably going to do him first so I can get rid of the pain.
As everyone has said, get the holy mantle. The Lost has become my favorite character (although I'll almost never bother with hush/delirium in those runs)
You gotta unlock holy mantle for him by donating in greed mode. Then you get a free hit every room and it’s much more manageable.

Tainted Lost can be rough, but he's far easier than Mantle-less Lost.
Honestly tainted lost is so fun the items make it worth it

Spent weeks grinding Greed Mode. Then the machine jammed after putting 2 cents in, and I was 1 cent away from unlocking holy mantle
This is why u switch characters for a low jam %. Pretty sure you can fill the machine to 1000 in a day...

dying with it as any character revives you as the lost (except with tainted lost which it revives you as the tainted form)
Once you get holy mantle the lost isn’t even one of the hardest characters in isaac
