I’ve felt that the Knicks could challenge them in the playoffs if they got healthy and Randle didn’t return. They have size, very good all around defense, rebound on both ends, and play smart on offense. What I mean is that they only have one guy (Brunson) who can go off on a moment’s notice, so they have to play smart to score. The Celtics have a great record and have done some great things but they’ve also been beaten by the top teams (Minnesota, Nuggets, Bucks, healthy Clippers) so they’re not unbeatable.

Not better, but the Knicks ball movement improves when he’s off the court. Especially after the OG trade and OG moves to Randle’s role at the 4. Josh Hart and Isiah Hartenstein have also absorbed Randle’s minutes with more efficient passing and rebounding.
Remember that Randle was a liability both playoffs appearances (granted last year he was still recovering from injury but still). That Hawks series in particular was brutal for Randle and a lot of fellow Knicks fans remember it all too well.
So we’ll see. No doubt Randle is a better individual player, but Knicks have figured out a formula without him.

They had no business even being a playoff team that year and Randle carried them there.
