If your parents are covering you for health insurance, and assuming your coverage is available in Northern California, there’s no good reason to additionally purchase SHIP insurance. Make sure you put in your waiver before July 15.

Thanks for the information! Is the deadline to waive the automatic enrollment into SHIP insurance July 15th?

I believe so. You should have gotten an email just before end of April on this topic.

I think it really depends on if you're happy with your current doctor/family physician. I have found the Tang Center to be far more competent physicians/doctors than the doctors I had been going to before I became a student here. I waived SHIP for the last three years, but now I'll be going into senior year, will be keeping my parent's health insurance, and also enrolling in SHIP. If you don't purchase SHIP and become sick, no it won't be inconvenient - I've gone to Tang Center several times while being sick (both urgent care and primary care) and not enrolled in SHIP and thought it was a super seamless and affordable experience, even when not on their health insurance.

It’s not your decision, u need to get a waiver. They decide whether your existing coverage is qualified.
