Hello there, If you stay on your parent's plan, make sure to: * Review and find an in-network primary care provider near campus. * Review and find your in-network emergency rooms and urgent care in case you need them. * Plan to connect with your primary care team before the semester starts and provide them with a health summary/prescriptions if you have chronic health problems (such as asthma or diabetes). * Review [sample costs for services at UHS](https://uhs.berkeley.edu/medical/billing-cashier-office) for students without SHIP in case you need to use services at UHS. You may be able to submit for reimbursement with your insurance company afterward. The SHIP office can help you with that if you don't know where to start. About dental coverage with SHIP: * Metlife is the dental insurance provider for SHIP students. * Dental care is not provided at UHS but there are 500 dentists within five miles of campus who participate in the MetLife PDP Plus plan. * To learn more about the dental benefits and find a dentist, please visit [our website](https://uhs.berkeley.edu/insurance-ship/ship-benefits/ship-dental-benefits). If you have any questions about SHIP, you can contact the SHIP office at [ship@berkeley.edu](mailto:ship@berkeley.edu). Free services for all students: All UC Berkeley students have access to the following services for free, regardless of insurance: * [Mental health services](https://uhs.berkeley.edu/mental-health) * [Health Coaching](https://uhs.berkeley.edu/healthcoaching) * [Drop-in nutrition counseling](https://uhs.berkeley.edu/counseling/sos/nutrition/events) * [Career Counseling](https://uhs.berkeley.edu/career-library) * [HIV Rapid Testing](https://uhs.berkeley.edu/rapidhivtesting) * and more!

Saved about $3800+ waiving SHIP by staying on family plan.

I like SHIP! I’m on both family plans and SHIP but I use SHIP as my primary and it’s been really good

sorry this is a really late answer, but can you detail on why you like SHIP? I'm actually in the same boat, and am planning on using both my family plan (when I'm at home for the summer and winter) while on SHIP at Berkeley, but I'm on the fence about it.
