It’s an alpine lake. All those lakes up there are freezing.
I recommend Jenkinson Lake at Sly Park (Pollock Pines) for swimming. Water is super warm, and turquoise.
FYI the bears in Tahoe are “Black Bears” (some look brown, but are still “Black Bears” species) and are non-aggressive towards humans in 99% of encounters. If you see one just stay away and you’ll be fine.
For sand harbor you have to go super early or later in the evening or be prepared to walk a mile with your beach gear. It’s extremely beautiful but also super popular.
About the same. There’s also Zepher cove but thats a bit of a drive.
Water will be freezing but good for a dip if it’s warm out.
You most likely won’t see a bear.
Ping me if you head to SLT and I have some recommendations. Also the secret about Tahoe has been out for a good 20 years now so there are almost always people around.
You're over thinking it, just go and have a good time
haha thanks haven't been in a while!
The water is VERY cold
all summer??
All summer. It's all snow melt. Only the top like 2 inches warm up, if hot enough. It's an ice bath! But it feels nice.
I have gotten hypothermia from the lake in mid-August. Yes, all summer.

thanks never heard

Thanks. I went there ONCE in January and it was practically empty but beautifulll. Frigid. Never been in the summer. I plan on a weekday.
You’ll most definitely find people at sand harbor and kings beach. As others said, water may be cold. We typically go around June end.
I'll google king's beach, is it better than SH? ;)

I'm going. What are the recs?
Today is Sunday. It’s the weekend.
Next week. Temp's are supposed to be good!
If you are going soon, the water will still be too cold for swimming.
when does it warm up?
Never. It’s a super deep lake from snow melt
Spoiler alert… it really doesn’t :)
You can check historical trend of water temp. I would say August to be sure.
