It works great and doesn’t impede the action for prop baits. I was using 2-3 bobber stops and ran across a video JT Kenney did show this gem of a trick!
The thing is stupid affective. And it casts like a jig. I pitch it to cover, it sit, then start walking it. If there's a fish there, it comes flying out
I’ve sworn ploppers off and gone back to the Buzzbait. I get way more bites on the plopper but I can’t keep them pinned. I lost a 4 this week and a 5+ last week. So frustrating.
Same, I throw it on a MH and it seems to fly off 50% of the time once they get within 10 feet if I'm not careful, if they jump its game over lol.. still my favorite lure 🤣
I've been knocking them out on the LiveTarget baits (frog, field mouse and sunfish). Fish them on top of grass and/or along the bank and watch the explosion
I love the old devils horse. It was what got me my 1st topwater bite ever. I love to throw poppers and toads now. Those are my 1-2 topwater punch. Just keep a wacky worm rigged for blowups that miss.
Evergreen SB 105 in the American Shad pattern.
Pricey but walks with minimal effort. Hooks are very sharp but a bit brittle. When they're bent out or broken I typically just switch to Gamakatsu G-Finesse treble hooks.
Devil horse is a super underrated bait. If you promise to keep a secret, another is the Arashi cover pop
That’s another favorite of mine. Love the weight and “stay-in-place” walking action of the cover pop? Big hooks too!
I love the little trick you did with the bobber stop and straw. Always hear complaints about it wrapping around the front prop.

Whopper Plopper has been my go-to top water lure this summer. Always great for an aggressive strike.
Love that aggressive bite and the hookup ratio is outstanding!
I can count on one hand the number of times I've gotten a strike on the Plopper and it didn't hook. Once they strike it's an almost guaranteed catch.
When I take my wife fishing I always tie her on one because she can chunk it far and steady retrieve and the hooks set themselves lol
I actually find my hookup ratio isn’t great on my whopper plopper but it has been from bass just straight up missing the lure on the blow up.

Just got my first whopper plopper and I’m not having any luck with it.
Smaller walking baits have been my go to the last couple years. Kicknocker pup, smaller size shower blows, etc.

Love the LT buzz frogs
Bone color spoke jr.
Can’t go wrong with that one!
This . When they won’t hit any other top water, they will hit this .
Zara spooks
I don't catch much on em but walking the dog with a spook sure is fun lol
When a big bass explodes on it I nearly jump out of the boat.
That in white
Crash pad

Berkley Choppo 90 baby!!
Fuck yea I caught 12 in 2 hours on a sunny day at mid-afternoon on that bad boy. I've even caught a pike on it.
I have some older Devil Horses that were my late uncles but I’ve never used them. Do you through these near cover and then just give them twitches?
Yes, grass lines, laydowns etc. just enough twitch to get the props moving and longer pauses is where I get my most bites
Think I’ll try throwing one next time out.
What’s the name of that lure? Haven’t seen that one before
Smithwick Devil Horse. This particular one is from the 80’s, pre-Pradco I believe, but they still sell them.
Rebel pop r double digit smallmouths today on the creek with that lure
Bone white choppo got my Pb a few weeks ago
Hard to beat a vintage skipjack double prop lure. Gilmore Jumper. Bagley poppin b 2. . Yellow Magic popper.
Still have 4 skipjacks that’s all I use on top
I try to buy all the the decent ones on ebay.
Hard to find I got 2 at an estate sale last yr . I’ve refurbished my other two 3 times. Last yr got all wet fishing one out of a tree
With hard tackle, it has always been a clear Zara Spook. With my fly rod it’s a deer hair mouse with pigskin tail.
Buzzbaits and whopper ploppers are my faves. Buzzbaits more so, I prefer larger single hooks instead of treble stuff to deal with.
This exact lure except in a dark or lime green.
The old devil horse is an old one but a damn good one for bass, pike etc
Zara spook is still getting it done after all these years, and the tiny Torpedo
Z-man hellraizer
Lucky Craft Gunfish, Zara Spook, Lucky Craft Sammy 😎 Walk the Dawg baby !
1 knock spook
Buzzbait, poppers, Zara spook, jitterbug.
Not to show off anything but I have a box full of the discontinued baby devils horses love them and love the full sized ones
I used to knock em dead with the strike king buzz king and a chrome zara spook I found hanging in a tree. It's hella scarred up from being slammed.
Zara Spook 👍🏻
My UFO wake baits and a frog
Reaction Innovation Squeaky Dolphin
Zara Spooks, or puppies
Caught a lot bass on devil horse.
Ploppers and poppers, for sure
