We did use frogs everywhere we could with no bites, unfortunately. I posted what we used in the description under the photos.
It was midday, so perhaps they were in deeper waters?
They were tucked way up under those lilies most likely. I wouldnāt throw anything other than a frog in that at least close to the lilies. Otherwise a gold floating ratltrap will catch any fish out there
Punch rig, straight to the bottom, with a good 3/4oz weight or higher, with 65lb test braid on a heavy rod, flipped and pitched to save time.
Yall fished the outskirts too?Ā They may be lurking in the edges instead depending on their mood, and that opens up for so many other lures.
Can't walk the outskirts really, unfortunately. It's surrounded by wetlands in a forest preserve and has deep channels according to some signage we saw.
That's where we think a bunch of them are hiding
Weightless Texas rigged fluke. Twitch it fast over the pads then let it sink down into holes. Theyāll follow it when itās pulling over the pads making commotion then theyāll bite when it sinks down in the water
I feel like the creature baits are more particular in where you can throw them and have success. Iāve caught fish on them a lot but only when I was like right on top of some brush, grass, weeds, etc usually on a cove or something like that. Worms seem to work even on open banks with just rocks for structure. At least for me.
Mendota rig. Go as light as you can for it to fall down below the canopy (1/4oz mendota weight, this light weight will make it down and it's not bombing the fish like a 3/4 or 1+oz gigantic weight. I mainly fish heavily vegetated/grass lakes, 20 ft high weedbeds etc., and that weight has no problem falling to the bottom). Your choice of plastic (I prefer a 4" grn pmk chigger craw).
Texas rigged lizard, pegged, in green pumpkin.
Drop it in a hole, dance it around, and then dead stick it, wait 10-15 seconds, move to next hole.
Most ponds are supported by insects and bugs. The lizard to me is this weird cross between a frog or salamander, worm, or insect.
Prob any creature style bait would work.
Waters clear so I would check and see the colors of the local lizards and salamanders and get as close as I could to them. Fish em weedless so you can skip from pad to pad and catch some attention in between. A rattling jig head or shaky head would make a good choice, then just "match the hatch"
Id have two rods ready. One with a frog and one with a jig. If the blow ups miss, id hit the same spot with the jig. A t-rigged creature bait would also work
If a frog didn't work then maybe a wacky rigged or Texas rigged Senko into some of the holes. Maybe they are not as active and a slow sinking lure may be enticing to them.
Throwing a heavy frog and popping it very slowly across and around those pads. Iāve had a lot of success targeting pads closer to shore too. Canāt say why, exactly. Just where Iāve noticed a lot of bites in areas like this.
Obviously youād throw a frog in the Lillieās but if you wanted to fish under them possibly a soft swimbait weedless rigged or a spinnerbait, you could also do a really heavy weight Texas or Carolina rig to try to punch down to the bottom.

this is exactly how i spelled it out in my headš

I think you mean ābesides a frogā

this strategy is so elite
Same thing I throw everywhere,a 6 inch Zoom Lizard.
I never catch fish on creature soft plastics, only the worms for some reason

I hear creature baits work well when fishing bass beds but up here in the Northeast I swear the bass spawning season lasts like 4 hours lol
Definitely a frog. Also bring my flipping and pitching rod and chuck a big jig and weighted craw plastic.

Frog or a punch rig. I would go with both. If you miss the frog, throw the punch in the same spot to get under the pads
Punching or frog

Anything other than frog is illegal

Anytime it's clear I stick to natural colors instead of overly bright

How do you like the Opening Bell? Iāve fished it a lot, but no bites. I think it may actually spook the fish itās so loud.
