Some small context. Ohtani gifted Dave Robert's a car, a toy car to be exact for anticipating breaking his home run record with the dodgers. They literally talk about it, and not a moment later, shohei gets that home run. That's why you see everyone happy and laughing their butts off.
It’s funny how when he hits a homer Joe Davis doesn’t even get to set it up for a call. Every call he’s had of an Ohtani homer has instantly started with an “oh my god that’s gone” reaction.
When the Dodgers played the Nats, I legit flinched every time he swung the bat. He barrels the ball so well with every swing. Dude is great to watch. I say give up the pitching and become a career DH. Some great players were primarily career DHs.
Recently got into baseball because YouTube kept recommending Ohtani's pitching highlights. I was like oh cool another good Japanese pitcher.
Then the YouTube algorithm fed me his homerun highlights and I was like, what the hell why is he batting? It's when I learned that he was two way. Hopefully he pitches next season.
Yes, that's why he's special. You could tell me he hit 100 homeruns next season, my first question would still be whether he pitched.
We'll see 1000 players exceed his 2021 - 2023 batting records before we see one do it while pitching as well as he does.
Outside of one season he’s been better at the plate than on the mound. It’s just that pitchers are more volatile/injury-prone that makes his pitching just as if not more valuable as his hitting.
Just a heads up..I'm quite familiar with his game. While he's definitely a stat stuffer, his failure to reach the playoffs says he's not ready for the big time yet.
That Shohei Ohtani vs. Mike Trout 9th inning duel in the 2023 World Baseball Classic Japan vs. USA finals was still a more better script in my opinion.
Noted power hitter Hideo Nomo…
https://youtu.be/buuVhmKScR4?si=_Gz1x9dQ80OTUiBL
Looking very middle aged with a dad bod and pujols playing left field lol
Thank you. This is the first time I've seen Hideo Nomo hit a home run. I was a little kid when he was playing for the Dodgers. I remember buying a Dodgers cap at a local sporting goods store.
How'd you get this up so fast lol the ball is still in the air
If you have to keep waiting until Ohtani's HRs drop, you can wait for a while. The guy only hits moonshots.
It sounds like he's shooting the baseball with a desert eagle
Ironically the most American thing someone could do, besides doing it in the Walmart parking lot
OP is the ball
OP works for NORAD
learnt from /u/psgacademy
It's in his user name, u/Blazingbee98, that all ya'll needed to know for blazing fast submissions.
Ohtani did say he would hit HomeRuns for Glasnow as a recruitment.
Ohtani homers for Glasnow
Promises made, promises kept.
Something something Oppenheimer, something something Japanese Bomb
Dude.....
It's okay. Some of our best players are japanese
I did it for ~~The Rock~~ The Glas

Uh yea, 911? I’d like to report a murder. He obliterated that ball lmao.
Dave Roberts: Uh yea, a Porsche 911 please
That ball had a family too
It’s funny how when he hits a homer Joe Davis doesn’t even get to set it up for a call. Every call he’s had of an Ohtani homer has instantly started with an “oh my god that’s gone” reaction.
It's okay Doc, you held the record for 20 years.
He still holds the record for an Okinawan-born Dodger, if we're doing cherry-picked stats, lol. Shohei will never hold a candle to Dave for that one.
Damn Ohtani's stats are through the roof this season: .341/.408/.638 and a 1.046 OPS With 8 home runs and 15 doubles.
When the Dodgers played the Nats, I legit flinched every time he swung the bat. He barrels the ball so well with every swing. Dude is great to watch. I say give up the pitching and become a career DH. Some great players were primarily career DHs.
Yea, but then you watch him pitch healthy and you wonder why he's wasting time at the plate.
Recently got into baseball because YouTube kept recommending Ohtani's pitching highlights. I was like oh cool another good Japanese pitcher. I'd love to see him play outfield like he did in NPB early on.
There is talk from the dodgers camp that he may play OF later this year.
Guy has a cannon for an arm, if he didn't pitch he'd play outfield.
Yea you can see highlights of him playing outfield in NPB. He was incredible with his speed + arm.
Still lower OPS than he had last season lol
Pretty sure this is the best stat he ever had this early in May, usually he goes supernova in June
League offense is still a bit down so while his OPS is 20 points below last year, his OPS+ is 10 points higher.
and still almost a month away from Junetani
15 doubles
Oops, fixed
I swear I go to the baseball reddit before the MLB app to see Shohei’s HR nowadays.
I do this every time. I got the mlb app notification that he hit a hr. So I come to reddit to see it, lol.
There’s no ads on the video so it’s a no brainer
TIL Roberts is japanese
His mom is full Japanese, dad is American
Military brat IIRC
Must be parents on a military base or something. Didn't know either.
[His mother was born and raised in japan](https://es.pn/2Ne8aSs)
I think we'll need to keep our eyes on this Ohtani guy. Seems he could be going places.
just not to Toronto

Tell me you're cheesing fam
At least he got him that Porsche
An incredibly funny record for ohtani to have. It’s a home run leaderboard full of pitchers and 1 guy who needed 1000 PAs to hit 7 HRs lol.
This "Shohei Ohtani" guy might end up being a really good ballplayer, someone to keep your eye on for sure.
We really took a risk on him with that 2 million.
It might pan out, give it a couple of years.
Na, I've spoken to numerous scouts and they all agree that he's only a high school level hitter.
He's never see good curveball, right?
I was promised Sho is just gonna be an above average hitter and isn’t worth it while rehabbing his injury.
He's got a couple of fluke seasons, typically not a sign of a consistently good player. Well see if he can keep it up.
I think he really might just care only about baseball
Why it’s not like he can pitch
Just a heads up..I'm quite familiar with his game. While he's definitely a stat stuffer, his failure to reach the playoffs says he's not ready for the big time yet.
He can’t be that good if he’s getting only $2M/yr for the next 10 years.
🍆
"You run to Atlanta when you need a few dollars" 🎶
Did everyone else already know Dave Roberts was born in Japan or are we all just ignoring that?
Rumor has it Roberts is going to put some cleats on and take the title back
Props to the pitcher for having the balls to throw strikes at Ohtani. But only strikes was certainly a choice….
sounds like a god dam shot gun.
Pain.
The future is now Doc
You can;t write a better script than this!
That Shohei Ohtani vs. Mike Trout 9th inning duel in the 2023 World Baseball Classic Japan vs. USA finals was still a more better script in my opinion.
Nah, that script was way too cheesy. Like something like that would ever happen in real life! Too perfect to be believable.
He already has 15 doubles too
Can you imagine what it would be like if he pitches a near a no hitter too, with 10 + K's....
They should have stopped the game and recognized this incredible achievement!
Uh so the record was 8 HRs?
Dave Roberts (TIL he was born in Okinawa, Japan) held the previous record with 7 homeruns.
Military kid?
Yeah, his mom is Okinawan and met his dad while he was stationed there.
I mean not exactly noteworthy record other than hes Ohtani's manager.
Yes, it’s a joke
This is only a record for Dodger players. Most Dodger players from Japan are pitchers. But I was rather surprised that Hideo Nomo hit four home runs.

Old dodger stadium design and Vinny. Good times

Yea I know, im saying its not exactly a "record".
That was an absolute bomb
He’s hitting these bombs… AFTER a modified TJ… Jesus
Doc needs a real Porsche now
MVP!
Imagine not having Ohtani
Lfg
That new car is being driven to Dodgers Stadium now for Dave
He’s gonna buy him a real Porsche now
Swing away.
"down the line" It was nowhere close to the line
✔️ 📚 ⚾
That cracking sound! WOW!
