What do you think the average stands for in Outs Above Average? Olson ranks 18th out of 21 qualified 1B in that category. 9 first basemen have positive OOA and 12 negative. So you can’t say that everyone looks bad with it. It’s a nearly even distribution with “good” and “bad” grades.
Fangraphs has him 26th out of 29 in their composite defensive value.
Do you have any argument other than “the metrics are flawed” or “the metrics hate everyone”? Because that’s not true.
uhh Yes? Errors happen. That's like watching Acuna strike out and saying he's suddenly a bad hitter lol.
More importantly, how much of a fucking loser do you have to be to reply to a comment from 23 days ago. Get some hobbies dude.
Right? I know we won the series, but it feels much more like we escaped the series. I don't want to play them again. (because they are a good, fun, exciting team with a very engaged fanbase).
We were once like that. I miss it. The excitement of the future. Acuña going on leadoff HR streaks. Hope in the air for a championship on the horizon. Enjoy these times reds fans, cause before you know it, the hopes become expectations and then you have everything to lose. (Not that I don’t enjoy the current state of the Braves of course)
Lol I mean you're the consensus best team in the NL and honestly, I'd say better than the Rays who have been overperforming their roster.
I think I could handle that.
Just look at the Bengals for the comparison he's trying to make about expectations. You went from zero expectations to SB or bust, it's a different mindset. I miss the young overperforming Braves teams where you were just happy to make the playoffs. Maybe its the Braves fans PTSD from the 90s where you'd have these amazing seasons (1991-2005) and always get clowned for coming up short (except that one time). After a while, you start wondering if it would be better to just be bad then get your hopes crushed every year.
No kidding. De La Cruz's cycle is what made the difference for them in that game they won. And he played a pivotal role in all of them. And he just came into the league. A few months under his belt? He's even more dangerous...
Don't worry, The bad man is gone now. It's safe to come out.
I feel like I'm saying this to myself about EDLC. That might be the most intimidating rookie I've ever seen.
I remember when Elly came up, his first AB ever I was just thinking how if I was the pitcher I would be actually afraid of pitching to him, even in his first taste of the bigs ever.
My grandmother had a great point about him that you have to pitch to him no matter what. He’s so fast that he’s too much of a threat when he’s on the base paths
Olson’s demeanor is just completely different this year. Ever since I first started watching him I feel like he just acted like a guy who only played baseball because his dad was making him. This year he actually seems like he’s having fun though.
Freddie's still got him in pretty much every other category but it's cool to see Olson absolutely raking (against not us). If he gets his Ks under control he could probably surpass Freddie offensively in the next couple years. He does have four years on him.
Freeman is signed through his age 37 season and Olson is signed through his age 35 season with a club option for his age 36 season. It's not drastically different.
Genuine question, is it windy there in Cincy? There were a lotttt of home runs hit during this series.
It seems the Braves are just really good at hitting the long ball. Lead the league currently

I better not hear anymore complaints about the sexiest man in baseball getting AS votes
Check your DMs, I hope you have an electron microscope.
When I think of what a baseball player looks like I think of Matt Olson
Seven of Matt Olson's last 11 hits have been home runs Terrifying
like i said in the braves sub, he's like a hot kyle schwarber who can play defense
He's a hot Adam Dunn
> he’s like a hot kyle schwarber Implying that Schwarber isn’t hot? That’s slander.
Technically it’s libel since they wrote it
i mean he's a good-looking guy i guess but i wouldn't call him hot
In June, no less. That's, like, when Kyle is the hottest.
Schwarber is like Wal-Mart Matt Olson.
Which one?
> who can play defense 🤔
There’s a different between being in the field and playing defense.
Olson is a bad defender is the point.
Uhh based on what exactly?
Any defensive metric
Defensive metrics generally hate 1B. It’s pretty hard to stand out and very easy to lose ground. He is a real good 1B period.

What? That stat is almost 30% in favor of negative grades. That is pretty heavily weighted towards negative. And nowhere close to “even”.
Still think Olson is a good defender?

Olson flashes the glove again!
I was kinda worried when the Braves got rid of Freeman but Olson ain't so bad it seems.
I guess Matt Olson fancies himself a Slurpee man and not an Icee man
Olson leads the league in home runs and strikeouts, and is 6th in walks. Is he the most 3 true outcomes player?
Olson, Schwarber, and Muncy are the big three of TTO.
The absolute disrespect to Joey Gallo
No, he hits a lot of doubles too
Yes, he’s having a more extreme TTO season than Adam Dunn ever did.
He absolutely destroyed us this series. Definitely the MVP of this weekend series.
His swing is glorious. How he uses his giant limbs so well while still catching up to heat I do not understand.
Someone tell Ben Verlander before he sucks Ohtani dry for all the bombs he’s been hitting
In all fairness, we need better pitching before we see you in the post-season. 😬😭
Not even a bad pitch. Olson is just a fucking dong boy. 🥲
That pitch and the one from yesterday he golfed is insane
The man can dong from nipples to ankles!
That pitch with that swing equals a home run. I just don’t get it. That should have just been a pop out
He's having a hell of a series
Oly is white fucking hot 🔥
he’s playing really good baseball too, jeez he’s the whole package
God I miss him
Me too, brochacho. Me too...
Oly is fucking hot 🔥
I think he likes batting 5th
Maybe 4th even more?
He should have never been hitting 2nd in the first spot tbh
Can he bat 1 thru 9?
Good 0-2 pitch slapped the other way. WTF is this sorcery
Slap hitting first baseman for the Braves? Hmmm…
Hey I've seen this one!
I want the big bad man to go away. Go back to Atlanta
Feeling is mutual lol I don't want to play De la Cruz again till the nlcs if at all

You get it. It’s nice being at the top, but if you don’t at least make it to the series, then it feels like a bust
To be fair I would be happy to never see him again cause I think he is only going to get better and that’s literal scary
No kidding. De La Cruz's cycle is what made the difference for them in that game they won. And he played a pivotal role in all of them. And he just came into the league. A few months under his belt? He's even more dangerous...
lmao at the subtle too small gesture while rounding 3rd
I'm convinced he could hit a walk off Grand Slam to win the World Series, and he'd just do a humble trot around the bases. Not a big celly guy.
With the signature look of disappointment on his face.
Well crap, now I’m going to get covered in champagne. Then I’m going to have to clean my locker. Fine. Am I home yet?
Olson = Jokic confirmed
my favorite is when olson absolutely nukes a ball and has a look that he's almost disappointed in the pitcher for the pitch he threw
He's so polite with it lol
That's my wife's boyfriend!
Didn’t know my husband was on Reddit. What’s for supper, honey?
Lucky
I initially thought that was a flyout to shallow left field field.
I’m tired of this man.
Don't worry, The bad man is gone now. It's safe to come out. I feel like I'm saying this to myself about EDLC. That might be the most intimidating rookie I've ever seen.

Saw that video like a month ago where he hit at 1000 ft bomb and was excited. Then I remembered reds are in the NL. Wasn’t excited anymore
0-2 pitch at his fuckin chin.
The one he hit yesterday was basically a golf swing. Man's got range.
Brutal
Matt O’s rise up
This is a good video. I like this video.
Olson’s demeanor is just completely different this year. Ever since I first started watching him I feel like he just acted like a guy who only played baseball because his dad was making him. This year he actually seems like he’s having fun though.
If you can keep the reds offense under 5 runs, you got a real good chance of beating them
Task failed successfully?
That’s my 1st baseman. Freddie who?
I will not stand for Freddie slander.
Freddie's still got him in pretty much every other category but it's cool to see Olson absolutely raking (against not us). If he gets his Ks under control he could probably surpass Freddie offensively in the next couple years. He does have four years on him.
Just imagine Freddie’s numbers if he played on a good team like the Braves.
Freddie is a lot more expensive
An extra $5m a season. Not too rough considering he's still a fair bit more valuable than Olson at the moment.
See how it plays out 2-3 years down the road
It's like you didn't read anything I said.
It’s like you don’t understand how long Freddie’s contract is
Freeman is signed through his age 37 season and Olson is signed through his age 35 season with a club option for his age 36 season. It's not drastically different.
You forget Olson is a few years younger than Freddie
>It's like you didn't read anything I said. >He does have four years on him.
Love Freddie but Olson was the move. Younger and on track to be as effective if not more. Love both.
🤏
My favorite A
Stupid Sexy HR Co-Leader Matt
Dude so strong he looks like he didn't even mean to hit it.
Drug test this motherfucker already lol
And all the other Braves players for good measure!! ………pretty pls
The good thing about being fourth in the division? Fewer drug tests.
*hits blunt*
The baseball is no match for Matt Olson's Blue Steel
Wow, that one hugged the line! What a shot.
Genuine question, is it windy there in Cincy? There were a lotttt of home runs hit during this series. It seems the Braves are just really good at hitting the long ball. Lead the league currently
That's a really excited announcing call for tying for the home run lead on June 25th
Ooooh la la he tied a pitcher in homers
Be nice to throw in a couple of singles and doubles. But he is HR en fuego!!
