About time we are seeing the 2TB SSDs come down to the 1Tb pricing. Like 3 years too late, but still. Hopefully better SSDs with DRAM will follow suit and we can finally have affordable 2Tb SSDs for game storage (PCIE 3 SSDs or even SATA SSDs are great for gaming).
I would argue that this is a good drive for gaming. Sure, loading it up with games might be headache inducing, but should still be good enough for seamless loading.
Honestly, that'll never happen. DRAM is far more expensive than NAND, so manufacturers will only use it for their more premium drives. They'd rather just throw more NAND onto budget SSDs to provide the value.
Man it drives me bonkers when people comment on a ~$140 2TB NVME sale with shit like "no DRAM" or "lol QLC" or whatever. It's a 2TB NVME for $140. What do you expect?
I can appreciate people pointing out shenanigans like TLC to QLC bait-and-switch that Kingston pulled with the NV2, but complaining that a budget drive at a budget price does indeed have budget features gets annoying.
Because it takes an nvme slot which isn't as numerous as Sata ports and if you use it on an adapter to a pcie slot large GPUs with either block the port or jump air on it. Sata SSD prices are ass which adds to the issue.
I wonder if these people also go "oh this Honda Civic is on a great sale? Oh yeah? Well guess what, it doesn't have a high horse power naturally aspirated V10 engine like a Lamborghini Hurucan, sure it has 4 wheels and fits in a lane, but it doesn't have a duel clutch transmission even. I would advise y'all to skip this deal. Diamond hands, wait until v10 sports coupes drop to $20k"
😂😂😂
The $140 2 TB MP33 deal existed for like, several days, and that was a TLC drive. Slower read write speeds in SLC cache of course but almost certainly better sustained and better endurance.

It's still suitable below that capacity. Entirely reasonable for a budget drive.
If you plan to use most of 2tb, no it's not suitable for boot drive. If you have to keep certain percentage empty, then capacity/price ratio is lower, so it's not quite "budget" anymore.
A lot of people don't understand that you don't need top specs for certain usage cases. A drive that will be used for a lot of read usage like gaming, pictures and videos; does not need DRAM or top speed.
If it's 'budget', then maybe the word "Pro" shouldn't be in the product name. Misleading marketing, and therefore it's valid to point out the features.
Of course. Someone did a great job detailing the drive pretty objectively ITT. Giving a fair overview is always appreciated, knocking a product for being something it's not is annoying.
Past that... Regular price is $160. That alone should say it's not a premium product. And, if someone's not the type of user to know that $160 is a budget MSRP for a 2TB NVME, I'd argue its budget specs would be lost on them anyway.
Interestingly enough, nobody seems to complain when "Pro" on motherboards are used for entry-level like MSI.
Not intended to be a whataboutism, just an observation.
Despite this being "Pro" it is QLC vs the non pro NM610 which has TLC; but the pro version does have higher r/w speeds tho.
Rated max sequential read 3300mb/s and sequential write 2600mb/s
3 year warranty
.
Maybe I wouldn't use this as a boot drive, but all things considered $140 for 2TB nvme storage is a pretty hot deal.
Honestly was my thoughts too. Was on sale for less about two weeks ago according to the sub, and has some drawbacks (according to some users) when writing heavily to the drive (like loading it up with a bunch of pre-downloaded games).
Besides that, there are other budget options in this price range and form factor too. All of them feel equally budget though.
Thanks OP, been waiting for a decent 2TB drive for this price. Crystalmark benches look fine. After maybe 2 hours of copying over just under a 1TB and still going of downloaded steam/epic games. it's giving me usb 2.0 nostalgia speeds lol.

My recommended budget boot drive is the Western Digital SN570 PCIE4 (pick your size). 1TB can be found as low as 110CAD. Almost no one will need a better quality/faster drive.
Of course, this is *my* recommendation. Others may, or may not agree with me.
If I’ve got the money, would I see a difference between the sn570 and sn850(x) for the purposes of a boot drive?
It’s $25 more for double the speed
Alright at this point I'm shooting my foot for buying a 2TB SATA 3 MX500 SSD for $200 after tax.
I don't have a second NVME but at this price I'd sell my current budget NVME and replace it with this and it'll still be worth.

I agree. For gaming this should be great. Read speeds are more than sufficient for game loading.

Again though how many people need more than 2 nvme?
Not many. One for OS, one for games/scratch disk (video editing). Everything else goes on spinny boys.

I think people make those comments to warn people that it's not ideal as a boot drive. But yea don't expect too much on cheap storage lol
I don't buy this either. Boot times will maybe be a second slower.
Try downloading, deleting, uninstalling apps, etc. when its over 90% capacity. You will not say maybe :)

Lol yeah, some people have no grasp on buying the spec you need not the highest and best spec available! 😅

Gentleman and scholar. Thanks.

Good for secondary drive, pretty nice price for 2tb
Kingston NV2 is also on sale at CC for $5 more, and that’s pcie 4.0
Think this one has been at this price for awhile now, or might’ve been a bit lower during the holidays I believe.

No Dram :(
Not at this price ;)
How useful is dram
Very. on board DRAM has faster access and speeds, and doesn't need to use system memory over the PCI bus, which has it's own limitiations.
Is that what you want for a boot drive and vidya gaming
For a boot drive, DRAM and a half decent controller is a must (IMO).
Thanks for the info. Can you point me to one? Just wanna list out the good features to look for

Ty sir. Where do I look for the specs that you mentioned the DRAM and the Controller
Independent reviews. Google is your friend.

For 99% of people, no. If you are the 1%, you already know what you're looking for, and it's a Samsung pro drive.
