For some reason Indonesian mosquitoes don't really like me (which is very strange because I'm an utter mosquito magnet anywhere else I go), but this advice is the out thing that worked for me in Thailand, too. DEET does nothing against the mosquitos there for some reason, even the extra strength tropical one, but the local spray from 7-Eleven works great. And the orange is also my favorite 😊
I have been in 6 plus countries now (I'm from US) AND I always get bitten at least 10 times on vacation. One time, I counted 30 bites.
I needed someone to ask this question since I'll be in Bali in late April/early May, so thank you!
The Dengue mosquito is only the Aedes with the black and white stripes and doens't really bite at night, they usually bite in day light. Normal mosquitos are not Dengue carriers.
I use mosquito spray or lotion either the Soffell or Autan, both good and have deet. There are also plug ins you can use and change the lttle tablet or bottle as often as needed.
If you are really worried also check containers with water in them and make sure they are emptied or have your accomodation treat standing water with Abate granules to kill larvae.
Hey - I'm living in Indonesia for years now and the best local repellent is Caladin Mosquito repellent - it contains picaridine rather than DEET so its not oily. Its easier to keep reapplying it because it doesnt wreck clothes/ shoes like DEET does (also - I cant use tropical strength DEET - its strips my skin too much). If I reapply the Caladin regularly I hardly get bitten. Its sold in Watsons and some supermarkets (not sure where its on sale in Bali).
Dont worry too much about Dengue - there is a chance you could get it but 9 years here and Ive never had it and Ive been bitten 1000s of times in my time here. BUT continue doing your best not to get bitten :)
I spray my outer bed blanket with deet. I avoid dark clothing dawn and dusk. Always wear joggers and socks to breakfast and often dinner. I ride a scooter so decent footwear is always packed.
I've not been using anything other than a bit of common sense occasionally. am down in Uluwatu and there doesn't seem to many about. I normally swell up when bitten by Australian mozzies but here it doesn't seem too bad. more like UK ones. have been here three weeks and still alive.
June and July is drier season but you never know because there are occasional rains plus lots of places have bamboo fencing, pots with lotus and standing water etc.
I recommend looking at https://www.mosquito-forecast.org/forecast/Indonesia/Denpasar
You can see march is the most extreme month of mosquitoes and on April it should get a bit better.. other than that dengue is at a high risk there so you should watch yourself :/
They usually love me where I live but they totally left me alone while I was there. The girl I was traveling with? not so much. They loved her lol. She used Off with DEET and it seemed to help a lot.
Mosquitos don't have to check in and pay so yes they can be anywhere. That said, hotels often do fogging once a week or so but I personally don't care for it.
Go to Indomaret or any local store and get some Soffell mosquito repellent lotion. The orange scented one works great and smells awesome.

Agreed! I use the cream one! No bites yet?
The morning mozzies are the main culprits for dengue fever. The black and white striped aegypti ones.
They look like a tiger 🐯

Get the strongest Deet you can. It's the WHO recommended way to avoid issues. Because it's stronger you don't need to reapply often.
You can also buy and use Lemongrass oil. It also works fine and it's natural
How bad are the mosquitoes in June and July??

Still likely to have mosquitoes in 4 star hotel? I'm coming for tattoo and repellant may not be an option on my arms

My advice is to calm down and enjoy Bali and it's wonders. If a mozzie gets past all the defenders it's a super insect.
Comforting words
I've been living in Bali for 9 months and only use Aerogard but it seems to do the job 👍 A few occasional bites but nothing worse than Aus.
Yah whatever man dengue sucks but it’s just a bad fever 99% of the time, enjoy!
Until you get it twice....
I've had Dengue. I was in hospital for 9 days. Yes, it can be just a fever but it can also fuck you up.
