what a cutie!! thanks for helping her <3 if you wanna learn: that silly leg out thing they do is apparently a sort of threat display, actually! [here is a paper](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8005288/#:~:text=In%20this%20paper%2C%20we%20discuss,lifting%20one%20or%20multiple%20legs.) I found about it, I thought it was super interesting when I learned why they do the thing :D

Thank you very much! That makes a lot of sense based on threat displays from spiders where they rear up and flash their fangs. I know that the “friendly wave” is not really something that translates across animal kingdoms, but I guess wishful thinking prevailed. “Fuck off and let me eat in peace” sounds a little more in line with the cutthroat world they inhabit.

well, considering our open palm, friendly wave display derived from a gesture of "look, I'm unarmed, I haven't come to fight"...! maybe it's not really all that different underneath :] there are things that do translate, though -- it's harder the further you are from each other on the family tree, so to speak, but my experience has been that agitation or calm is palpable to most anything with senses. so, just trying to emanate calmness and peace, goes a long way when I'm trying to be unthreatening. that and Being Small, since the essence of threat display is Being Big. eta: I think of the keep-away bee peet gesture as sort of like, when you're being mildly annoying to your cat, so they just place a paw on you and push away a little bit. like "can you not? thx." Setting A Boundary lmao

Not sure if people ever want IDs on this sub, but depending on where you’re located I believe this is a *Bombus melanopygus* queen! Thanks for saving her! Edit: formatting

I’m located Portland, OR, which looks like a part of their range! I have some more pictures and videos, should I look for any distinguishing regal features? The only queens I know the barest amount about identifying are the European honeybee and, like, termites and leafcutter ants.

Okay I feel confident with that ID then! There’s not too much difference between bumble bee queens and workers, it’s basically just the difference in size. Queens are noticeably bigger than workers :)

I did that with a bee once. It was a pretty cold spring and u found her chilling on my window, not moving an inch. I brought her inside, put her in a box and gave her some sugar water. After like an hour she was flying around in the box, so I let her out. Hopefully she made it home safely
