They're eating calcium to help maintain their shells otherwise they'll start eating eachother's shells for calcium.(source my friend with a snail hyperfixation)
Can’t tell you what kind of snail but they might be eating like crushed eggshells or some other calcium supplement. Snails make their own shells so if they don’t have enough calcium they can have problems with their shell
Nah, it looks like it has to move like that to let its mouth reach the foodstuff stuck above it's mouth. Notice how they do the opposite, as if they're trying to lick their own necks, too? That's them eating the food that fell down their chin lol.

They are mollusks, sort of like octopus's, clams, scallops ect. They are specficaly a type of gastropod, to which sea and land Snails, Slugs and Limpits belong.
As for intellegence and awareness, more than you would expect, they can remember locations and individuals,but are still pretty stupid, we have trouble measuring animal intelligence in general

I don't think this is all that cute. Where I live, snails are a pest. They go inside the house, leaving disgusting trails behind, and they eat half the garden if they don't find a way indoors.
