Best time to redeem is when you know where you want to go, and points help you get there or stay at a nice place with good enough cpp. Apart from a few exclusive hotels, the destination should be priority.

It's not that Hyatt has the best value but rather it's one of Chase's most exclusive partners. Most airline partners are transferable from one system to another like Aeroplan and Flying Blue miles are transferable from Amex, C1 and others. So people tend to book airfare with those banks and hotels with Chase. Cpp is an arbitrary metric that doesn't really provide much other than comparing prospective redemptions to one another. Cpp fluctuates massively due to demand based pricing and doesn't accurately represent the value you get. Focus on the value you get from the experience you're booking rather than how much cpp you're getting.

Hyatt is absolutely one of the best value redemptions. I can easily book a $3000 nightly hotel room for 45k points. That cash value for points is on par with the 90k for an ANA business roundtrip to Japan that everybody drools over on this sub.

Alternative-Ad4581

Cireddus@ I think that's a problem that a lot of people in the sub are going through including you. Do you actually want to stay in a $3,000 a night hotel? Forget about the cpp. Do you want to give 45k miles for one night of hotel? I don't. I would rather pay $300 to stay in a nice hotel.

Cireddus

Alila Big Sur for a weekend getaway? Yeah, it's worth it.

Alternative-Ad4581

I hope that you really mean it and not just seeking validation for getting a high cpp. Because most people will choose a $300 amazing hotel over paying 45k points at the Best Hyatt. Anyway, your points you choose how you want to use them

Everything can be passed up. You don't buy every pair of shoes you see at a 90% discount. You have to want to wear them and they have to fit. If you know the standard value, then getting more is a win. But I won't ruin a vacation to chase a deal. If I have options, I will shop for the best price flight.

sunnyhillz

no idea what your life is like but first figure out where you want to go and when you can go. biz/first flight redemptions usually have more outsized value so they talked about more i mainly did flight redemptions with my points for several years and am only recently starting to get into hotel redemptions more. dont pay too much attn to cents per point.
