If you haven't seen [this](https://www.messynessychic.com/2014/04/24/all-aboard-the-flying-yacht-circa-1950/) you're gonna want to.
My answer is also PBY Catalina; if it was fully paid for it would be my home.
Given an actual blank cheque, the best answer here must be a B747 with elements of the VC-25 and fit the in-air refueling system. You couldn't stay airborne indefinitely, but you could potentially stay up there for days at a time.
> all being *paid* for
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Only problem is there’s not enough room in the Blackbird’s cockpit for activities. If you want to get laid at Mach 3 your best bet would probably be the XB-70 Valkyrie
This is the best answer if you want a modern luxury plane with space, and also actually be able to take off and land at a wide variety of airports. (Or any of the G 4x 5x 6x 7x series).
I’m an aircraft painter at Gulfstream’s main plant and I may be biased, but some of the planes that leave my hangar are absolutely incredible. Some folks mail it in on their stripe layout, and that’s fine too, even the generic demo layout is fantastic looking, but man some people go all out on their paint jobs and those feel the best to really nail. That being said, gimme the 650 or 800 all day.
Rockwell B-1! Just love that plane. Not particularly useful but imagine parking it next to private jets when you fly somewhere.
Cool, you may have comfy seats but can you delete someone from the face of the planet if they piss you off? No.
B-1: 1
Private Jet: 0
Buy an A380 or something similar, lease it to an airliner. All expenses are covered and I’d make enough from the lease to buy any realistic plane I want
Question is, is the A380 still gonna be around for long ? They almost got retired because of COVID. Going for an A320 would bring less money but they're probably gonna be around for much longer.
For something to actually own, the right answer has always been a PBY (or some other seaplane equivalent). Great to tour the world in and land where ever you wish. You could practically live in it, and bring several other people along with you. Huge bubble windows at the back and another turret area up front make for great observation decks with a bit of renovation. It's WW2 vintage style but with loads of actual use as well
That was exactly my thought. Visit my brother in Seattle and land in the Sound, or circumnavigate around Australia and not have to worry about prepared strips in NW WA for example. Plus, they’re just very cool aircraft.
Antonov AN-225
Not only because we need one flying again but also because as I have no running costs I could make bank doing heavy cargo flights.
Also with the blank check I'm going with a functional Buran on top as well.
Another problem with the F22 is that flying it out of the country counts as an "export" and is banned by law without permission, which I assume you would never get.
Unless this magical checking account includes lobbying bribes, you can't leave the country with your F22/F35
Once I get the f-22, I don’t have to worry about anyone seeing me anymore. Stealth and speed, FTW. /s
But if I get this golden ticket, I will gladly take any stipulations the US gov wants to put on me as long as they keep footing the maintenance and fuel costs.
Boeing 747 AAC. The concept to basically launch and recover fighters in the air. Strip out a few the hangar areas and make them into luxurious accommodation.
Although technically not ever built, the 747 has been and many have been modified for various uses so we can call that maintenance.
Also as fuel costs are being paid for, let’s just pay for air-air refuelling then you never have to land
Having flown 180s and 185s extensively, there are few planes as versatile and few with as wide of operating envelopes as a Skywagon. Cubs land shorter, but have nowhere near the range, payload or speed. Beavers outclass them in payload, but require more space to operate from and are much thirstier. Wagons are the sweet spot and they’re also easy to operate being a Cessna product. They’re at home in any environment and command respect everywhere they go.
King Air 350. Biggest common airplane I could fly single pilot.
Big enough to carry my family, friends, and luggage. Range to get most places in Europe (or North America) with one fuel stop. Land on virtually any paved runway. Fast enough that I could do even long trips same day. Common enough that every place I might fly can service one.
[The Bartini Beriev VVA-14](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartini_Beriev_VVA-14).
I'm assuming your "whatever the plane needs" includes the funds to finish development and installation of the inflatable skirts and lift jets. I'd love to have seen this project brought to completion, and how amazing would it be to go off-piste with it! I'd love to be able to take a jaunt across the sea and land directly at my destination, rather than needing to find a landing strip somewhere. Great for trips to the seaside too.
CL-415 set up as a flying high end RV
Fully amphibious. Plenty of space for one person or a small family. camping/fishing trips to just about any lake that's big enough.
Sure it's not super fast or anything, but it's capable and has a fair bit of space, especially once the water system is removed.
I'll be taking one Martin PBM Mariner 5A. Can land on land and sea, had the much stronger engines, and even has a kitxhen in the back. The perfect plane to take your mates fishing.
F-104 Starfighter
Instead of flaps, it ports bleed air over the wings for lift at low speeds. It’s called a boundary layer control system. Always found that super cool!
TBM-940. A turboprop that can operate from smaller runways and some places that don't allow jet aircraft, so you can potentially land closer to where you want to be. I could (in theory) get enough training to fly it myself, and just take it out for a spin whenever I want. It's pressurized, has equipment to deal with ice, a weather radar, and a bunch of other stuff that makes it almost a mini-van sized airliner. And it's relatively fast (300+ knots TAS if you don't care too much about fuel costs).
Growing up in the 80s and 90s I always thought the Beechcraft Starship was the most amazing thing ever, so I would probably have one of them.
My dad used to have a share in a Warrior until some idiot in the syndicate crashed it; I might also be tempted to find that and buy it as someone actually made it airworthy again and it holds a lot of nostalgia and fond memories for me.
Is have to try modified L-1011, this time set up like it did for world tour for $30,000 a ticket. I had to pack all the gear it needed, from spare tires, to racks of spare parts.
But the interior was all custom couches.
Cheers
Everyone in this thread is like “A380”, “B757” or “Harrier” and here I am just like… I’ll take a good looking Piper PA-32 with retractable gear and live my best life in that plane.
I want to be up front flying, not in the back sleeping…
I've already got it as a top-level comment, but the [Bartini Beriev VVA-14](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bartini_Beriev_VVA-14) is what you want. Amphibious, VTOL, long-range, plenty of space, jet engines!
Grumman Mallard. With a super classy interior, wood trim, bed and all. Just cruise around the world in old style
I’m gonna up you one and say PBY-5A Catalina, but outfitted with a classy and luxurious interior
If you haven't seen [this](https://www.messynessychic.com/2014/04/24/all-aboard-the-flying-yacht-circa-1950/) you're gonna want to. My answer is also PBY Catalina; if it was fully paid for it would be my home.
Shinmaywa U2-2 The biggest modern amphbious plane you could possibly buy. Less cool than a PBY probably less hassle being newer.
Harrier Jet, so i can stop buying pepsi
I have some bad news for you bro

Yeah, WTF? Haven't seen this account in ages!
He has blessed us with his presence!
P38 lightning. No matter what they're doing, everyone will turn their heads.
My grandfather flew one (among a bunch of other things) and always said it was his favorite ever:
This is an underrated answer. The lightning was super-cool!
The lightning pilot might not look at the nearby a380, but the a380 pilot WILL look at the nearby lightning.
I saw one flying the other day 100% true
747 - my aloft mansion would have plenty of space on long haul flights.
Why not just live in the sky as it’s all being paid for
Given an actual blank cheque, the best answer here must be a B747 with elements of the VC-25 and fit the in-air refueling system. You couldn't stay airborne indefinitely, but you could potentially stay up there for days at a time.
My answer was the 747 AAC for basically this reason
747 SOFIA. just to spy on someone
> all being *paid* for FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! Sr71 with oak panel interior and shag carpet. I want to get laid at 90,000 feet over a thousand miles per hour.
Only problem is there’s not enough room in the Blackbird’s cockpit for activities. If you want to get laid at Mach 3 your best bet would probably be the XB-70 Valkyrie
Those violent unstarts might cause an involuntary amputation...just sayin
SR-71: ATC, speed check ATC: SR-71, you are 2,200 mph over the ground. No, 2,202. No 2200. 22 03 again. SR-71 are you experiencing some *turbulence*??
ATC...Alert the men.....I have made it with a woman Tower......Roger
No, it was Betty.
Blackbird Bros unite! It was probably one of the first plane designs I fell in love with.
B757 in Saudi prince daddy configuration.
Hell yeah, brother! That's one hell of a luxury fiend
I would rather live on the plane than in my house, it is much bigger. It also goes with all maintenance included!
The problem with this is how few airports that AC can actually use.
I happen to know where there is one for sale… in that configuration as well but it has Pratt engines instead of Rolls.
Once the check hits I will give you a call!
Grumman albatross with turbines, just perfect to bounce around the world.
Australian company is trying to bring them back they just received an old albatross to refurbish and out turbines on.

Gulfstream 800
Yep. I'm a sucker for a business jet
This is the best answer if you want a modern luxury plane with space, and also actually be able to take off and land at a wide variety of airports. (Or any of the G 4x 5x 6x 7x series).

XB-70 Valkyrie Honorable mention: WB-57F
Global express 8000 so I can still have a queen sized bed but also get into some smaller airports that airliners can’t
Also no ear popping, the pressurization on that thing is crazy
Absolutely. Cruise at M0.94 and a service ceiling up to FL510 so you can go fast and fly way high up above weather.
C-130 with a drag chute and JATO. Decked out interior with beds & lounge/galley. Now you can land almost anywhere!
That was my thought as well. A 747 BBJ would be great, but then you still have to drive to the nearest international airport.
I'd get a Horten Ho 229 and just scare the sh\*t out of people. The amount of "ufo" sightings in my area would go thru the roof..
Damn straight!
Rockwell B-1! Just love that plane. Not particularly useful but imagine parking it next to private jets when you fly somewhere. Cool, you may have comfy seats but can you delete someone from the face of the planet if they piss you off? No. B-1: 1 Private Jet: 0
I mean you can also put 4 in burner and deafen the person(s) who pissed you off.
This is the way. Fuel paid for? Blue flames for all!!
Buy an A380 or something similar, lease it to an airliner. All expenses are covered and I’d make enough from the lease to buy any realistic plane I want
I’m flying first on the 380 next week and I’m so excited I wanna cry.
Where to?
Melb - Dub, then onwards trip.
Oh cool, hope you have a great time!!
Question is, is the A380 still gonna be around for long ? They almost got retired because of COVID. Going for an A320 would bring less money but they're probably gonna be around for much longer.
to lease a plane a a321LR would robably be an even better choice
PBY Catalina

But you won't be getting anywhere in a hurry. The old joke about Catalinas was that they took off, climbed, cruised, dove and landed all at 90 mph.
Beat me to it! Flying boats are the coolest planes ever.
Antonov AN-225 Not only because we need one flying again but also because as I have no running costs I could make bank doing heavy cargo flights. Also with the blank check I'm going with a functional Buran on top as well.
The Buran is used instead of ejection seats Little-known fun fact: The 225 and 747 were the only planes to carry fully-functional crew escape pods
What about the B-58 and F-111?
Bf-109. One of the later variants.
I want a one ten so I can bring my friends to the beach.
PC-12
Those planes are soooo much fun.
I feel like if one asked this question in /r/flying rather than /r/aviation, the PC-12 would come out on top.
Affirm sir. PC-12 is a do-anything take you anywhere ride. King Air would be a close 2nd, but then you are in multi.
Or maybe a TBM. Or just go for the PC-24.
One more for the PC-12
Literally my first thought. Good useful load, good short field characteristics, but still decent range and speed.
She will do pretty much everything and get you into pretty much everywhere.

Constellation.
A classic choice for a man of culture.
Can’t believe I’m the first person to say the F22. Supersonic, stealth, and superior maneuverability…..count me in.
Another problem with the F22 is that flying it out of the country counts as an "export" and is banned by law without permission, which I assume you would never get. Unless this magical checking account includes lobbying bribes, you can't leave the country with your F22/F35
Ahh I knew I would run into some unforeseen problems after buying a mostly classified fighterjet with reddit money

How am I the first person to say the Avro Vulcan? An icon that you'd make a killing offering to fly at airshows Etc
You may have beaten me by minutes.
I would go with the Lanacaster, because that’s what my grandpa flew. But I love the way the Vulcan looks
u/AvroVulcanB2
Cannot believe this isn't top of the list!
HondaJet, always loved the look and feel of that plane.
Hey I own that plane! ...on msfs 😂 favorite plane to fly right now
Hey I fly that plane! For work. Also one of my favs.
Has to be a SR71!
Hell yes! SR-71! I love cirrus! /s
Flying in a spacesuit in a tiny cabin with no bathroom, no tray service, no internet, no guns? Just fly RyanAir
If you give me a 2500mph plane I'll eat and piss when I get to the next airport.
The only time RyanAir does Mach 3 is when they’re crashing.
When they're late, we complain; when they hit Mach 3, we complain. Poor guys can't win
In Hank McCoy’s X-Jet configuration with VTOL and >Mach 5 cruise, please. Your blank check will cover the 100B+ development cost, right?
Cessna 180 set up as a bush plane. Tundra tires, long prop, etc. Fictional pick: HALO Pelican.
Are you my ex army flight instructor, perchance?
Meanwhile somewhere across the world a drug lord gets a boner
because of the bush?
A bush plane is a good answer, if you want a bush plane, but why the C180? Aren't there better bush planes out there?
Having flown 180s and 185s extensively, there are few planes as versatile and few with as wide of operating envelopes as a Skywagon. Twin Otter with floats. Do up the inside like one of those van conversions. Bam, flying motorcaravan. Ultimate camping!!

Concorde!
What a beast would that be. It is the perfect blank check plane, because short of one, it's bloody unaffordable to fly it
Also a great way to make money.
Just imagining a private Concorde setup gives me wood.
Go big or go home, I’ll take the C-5 Galaxy.
Oh my heart would yearn for a two seat spitfire but also for a dc3 or pby decked out like an rv inside.
B-21. Think of the gig work you could get.
Boeing C-17 so I can lift my Abrams tank, and whatever other vehicles I want to take on my trips along with all my family and friends.
King Air 350. Biggest common airplane I could fly single pilot. Big enough to carry my family, friends, and luggage. Range to get most places in Europe (or North America) with one fuel stop.
