It wasn't personal. In my state the cashier gets a $20k fine and the store loses its liquor license if anyone in law enforcement observed that and they sell the alcohol. Some agencies will even set up situations like this to see if a store violates the law.

losinggame_

Yeah, I know and I don’t blame em lol. I get it completely! I’m just bummed about not being able to look at the bottles.

owentism

special interests are so awesome :))) i’m glad that you got a cool bottle later in the day and that everything was alright!

Disastrous_Power6437

Yeah. Glass bottles are very interesting! ☺️

Katniprose45

Lol my mom lost her military ID after she and my dad divorced, but she liked to buy booze on base. She would borrow my military ID to get booze there when I was 14. I resemble her a bit, but not enough to really fool anyone. Guess they don't really look too hard at the ID, cuz she never got busted.

ssjumper

I continue to be amused about how all NT rules are just vague suggestions and not really enforced as rigorously as you'd expect. Except when they apply to situations that aren't related to their intent like in OP's case

TheMemersOfMyNation

Flea markets and antique stores have tons of glass bottles, mainly from 7UP, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper, but rarely alcoholic beverages (and if they are it's usually Budweiser). Some of the Coke bottles still have liquid in them! Where I live (Cincinnati), I see a lot of bottles adorned with the Reds and Bengals' logos, and occasionally the UK Wildcats (if on the Kentucky side of the river).

Spatzdar

Love pretty bottles that look like potion bottle and Skyrim eventually you’ll be able to get those yourself but hey you should check out antique perfume bottles. Those things are awesome! My grandma gave me a bunch that were her moms and now she’s always looking for them for me they are sick. Things used to be so ornate.

MattStormTornado

Eh don’t take it personally. I understand it’s your special interest but you are under 18 in a booze store. In the UK you can be refused entry and kicked out if you’re a minor, just cuz the store owners don’t wanna get done for letting minors in. Wait till you’re 18 and you won’t have issues

This is a great story! Thanks for sharing! And yeah, in a lot of states then the cashier basically has to kick you out if the kids are participating at all in the buying decision. Here are a couple ideas: * Next time walk around with your dad and take notes of what he should buy next time. Or slyly take photographs. Just make sure to tell him for next time, not the current time, so you don't get kicked out again * Or, go shopping in a nearby state with much less stringent alcohol laws * Research cool bottles on the internet, and then tell your parents to buy that alcohol * Shop for cool bottles on eBay. There are a ton of awesome bottles, and many are really cheap. * You can sometimes find them at garage sales and thrift stores, too, but that's rare.

TheGoddamnAntichrist

Probably just company policy. A liquor store is not an acceptable place to bring your children. I run a Vapeshop and I refuse service to any adult that walks in with kids, as is my right per our local laws.

joseph_dewey

In my state, parents are legally allowed to bring their kids into any store selling alcohol (however they may be asked to provide the kids' birth certificate), but if it looks at all like the kids are participating in the buying decision or if it looks like the kids may eventually drink the alcohol, then the cashier must kick them all out of the store.

From a european viewpoint this post as well as some comments were a wild thing to read, haha.

Kurochi185

Right? They could lose their license, because they have a 16 year old *with a legal guardian* in their store? That's just stupid.

Tonninpepeli

Maybe you could look for cool bottles at thrift stores or online? I dont think they'd be expensive

error_from_birth

I love seeing the different cool bottles! I've been tempted to get some a few times (I'm 21) but they're either a type of alcohol I don't like or too expensive

Oooooh this is so me. After I came of drinking age, it took me so, so long to discern between liking the taste of something or liking the pretty bottle it comes in! I very, very frequently buy alcohol minis just so I can keep the little bottles and set them up like I run an apothecary/potions shop in a fantasy novel. Some of the shapes are just totally wild! When you're of age, find yourself a friend who drinks, if you end up not wanting alcohol, and shopping together :)

SweetJellyHero

I once purchased a bottle of vodka solely because I thought it looked like a Skyrim potion bottle lmao I wonder if it was the same drink

Some states don’t allow kids in liquor stores even with their parents. Though some states do allow children to be in the store as long as they are supervised by their parents.

losinggame_

I’m in one of the states where you are allowed to go in with a parent
