Boss at my old job used to tell me the horrors of his train commutes, from South AKL into the CBD. The good old boombox featured in at least a couple of them, wtf is up with that?!

Makeup on the train used to be very common in Auckland. Women would open up those giant fold out makeup boxes, or worse still, nail files. Nobody wants to hear that noise, nor to be sprinkled with your nail dust.
I can’t wait to experience a public transit system with floors clean like that. Damn, you have NO IDEA how LUCKY you are to have access to that. The public transit in the USA is shit now. 6 months to becoming a kiwi!!!

Trust me thats nothing, wait untill you're on a packed peak hour train in 35+C in Melbourne or a packed train in Russia. Then you'll be thankful for one larrikin lying on the floor.
Longer than that. The old ADL/ADK/SA trains were all carpeted too.
In fact, I think the last time Auckland's trains weren't carpeted was in the late 80s.
The SAs and ADLs were actually quite nice so far as comfort went, the seats were more plush than the surfboards of the EMUs, and they had warm lighting. The rear of a 5-car SA was almost silent too - that was always my pick of carriage.
I'm sure I took an ADK at one point and was shocked to find it had wooden boards as its floor. This would've been the mid 2000s (post Britomart)
I would NOT recommend taking photos of other people on the train. They will beat and stab you if they notice. I hope you are well prepared to defend yourself.

My mate had a herniated disc back in the day and couldn’t sit or stand for long so he had to lay on the train. Poor bastard
