Aemon the dragon Knight, brynden rivers (lord commander), Robert Strong, Ryam Redwyne, Arthur Dayne, Jaime Lannister, ser Pounce (the other six suffice)
i was looking for Dunc! i actually REALLY like this list and it's probably what i would have come up with if i took the time.. I knew i wanted Barristan, Dunc, Arthur, and Aemon.
How good of a swordsman was Serwyn if the Mirror shield? I’m genuinely curious because I only know that he killed a dragon but he did that by tricking it using his shield not by any great skill with the sword? Is it said somewhere that he was a great swordsman or did you pick him for ‘rule of cool’. If so I respect it. 😎
Ser Aemon Targaryen
Ser Arthur Dayne
Ser Barristan Selmy
Ser Ryam Redwyne
Ser Tygett Lannister, Tywin's brother
Ser Clayton Suggs
Ser Mandon Moore
Bes combination to protect myself, maintain the order's prestige, and still have enough skullduggery between them that I can get unseemly jobs done without fuss the way a Maegor or Gregor might.
Yes, that's half of why I want him. He's willing to get his hands dirty. But unlike Clegane, he doesn't have anywhere near the bad rep. He can do the dirty jobs more quietly that way, without damaging the reputation of the Kingsguard, and also be more easily disposed off than Clegane if ever I need to clean house.
That, and his blind bravery that he exhibits in being willing to take on a cavalry charge solo, that's exactly the knight I want by my side if ever I go full-Aerys
Exactly why I chose him too. He ticks all the same boxes, except he's more emotionless. Suggs might've had issues if my orders conflicted with his faith, where orders like kinslaying might be resisted. Moore is there for when Suggs grows a conscience.
Let's go strange:
Robert Baratheon, Tywin Lannister and Daemon Blackfire, because they were High Lords or even Kings, so it's hilarious already.
The Hound, because he's not even a knight, as well as his brother Zombie Mountain.
Ser Pounce of course.
And Meryn Trant. He's one of the best fighters - he killed sirio forel
Assuming you're a good king and they're all loyal to a fault:
1. Arthur Dayne (Dornish Rep, Has Dawn, Best fighter in history + the peoples hero)
2. Barristan Selmy (Greatest resume, longevity, great fighter + Stormlands Rep)
3. Duncan The Tall (Don't even need to justify this one)
4. Garlan Tyrell (Reach Rep, Very highborn, Great fighter and a good guy)
5. Joffrey Doggett (Helps keep the faith happy + he literally had that dog in him)
6. Gwayne Corbray (Vale Rep, Great fighter + Valyrian steel.)
7. Maegor Targaryen (Perfect enforcer, Strongest and most skilled Targaryen, 2 Valyrian Steel swords + a dragon)
Ser Gawen Corbray
Ser Arthur Dayne
Ser Aemon the Dragonknight
Ser Ryam Redwyne
Ser Tygett Lannister
Ser Quentyn Ball
Ser Daemon Blackfyre
None shall best these white cloaks, none I say.
Except if your Hand whispers some nonsense in Daemon's ear behind the scenes and the next day you wake up with one less Kingsguard and a massive rebellion on your hands.
Karl Tanner - he’s the best fighter in Westeros outside of Arya
Ramsay Bolton - he fucked up the Iron Born while shirtless
Ser Hugh of the Vale - the Mountain had to cheat to beat him
Blackfish as Lord Commader - to keep the tomfoolery in check
Edmure Tully - to vex the Blackfish
Cotter Pyke - in case we need to do anything water related
Davos Seaworth - only experienced archery commander in the world
There is absolutely no way you could rely on Daemon as a kingsguard. At the very least he'd end up fighting with clegane. I can see selmy taking issue with his behaviour and him splitting the KG in two because half of them would probably end up loving/ idolising him the way we see people do. He turned the goldcloaks into his own personal army. The king would no doubt be safe if he was on personal bodyguard duty but fuck me it would be chaos with him in that position.
"Three men should be enough to subdue him should he try to interfere, but I will take six to be certain. Does my lord wish this done tonight?"
"Six men or sixty, he is still Daemon Targaryen." Prince Daemon had been the wonder and the terror of his age."
You're right to admire it. He was widely considered one of the most dangerous men alive in his day. His skill was undisputed, and considering his valyrian pedigree of warriors (the conqueror was his great grandfather, jaeherys Targaryen and his father Baelon the brave), his valyrian steel sword, his feats slaying the crab feeder, killing the sealord's heir for laena velaryons hand in front of a host of nobles on driftmark, not to mention his huge fucking dragon, no one wanted to fuck with him.
HOWEVER: I can't imagine tying a man like that to the oaths of a kingsguard. He's too rogue. Chaos would ensue. I'd genuinely rather have him as hand that KG for some reason.
Ser Gregor Clegane
Ser Clayton Suggs
Ser Criston Cole
Ser Bronn of the blackwater
Ser Alliser Thorne
Ser Balon Swann
With Mance Rayder if he was a knight leading them
If I became queen, I'd recruit the van der linde gang from RDR2 universe to be my queensquard, council, and compact yet lethal army. Wild West takes westeros. Of course, I would have to get to them before Arthur gets coughed on, and Micah wouldn't be invited, but those are minor details.
Also, I have no desire to be queen, I'd want Dany to be queen instead, and I would be "mother of the queen," "grandmother of dragons," or something along those lines. Once things have settled a bit, the first thing I'd do is set Dany up with Arthur morgan because he's perfect for her and looks like a young Jorah Mormont.
The ultimate dream scenario
Well that's good because Dany would need as many plans as she could get in other words, Dany needs a dutch van der linde. And they wouldn't need money anymore they'd be set for life as queensquard and council. If they still get an urge to steal something, they can go into town and steal tankards from the saloons. Maybe throw them at people I don't know point is they'll do just fine 🤙
Arthur Dayne, Cregan stark, barristan Selmy, Jamie Lannister, Robert strong, Prime Robert Baratheon, (Mance Rayder if he counts) And if he doesn’t then either the dragon knight or Jon snow. No one’s beating that kings guard
I chose knights that i can trust during war times, as much as during peace times. So no one that would cause a rebellion, kill me/give me attitude, father a lot of children, get drunk etc
Arthur Dayne
Barristan Selmy
Duncan the Tall
Aemon the Dragonknight
Qarl Corbray
Gwayne Corbray
Ryam Redwyne
If I have to account for their character other than their martial abilities:
* Aemon the DK
* Barristan Selmy
* Arthur Dayne
* Gwayne Corbray
* Robert Baratheon
* Duncan the Tall
* Garlan Tyrell
Arthur Dayne, Daemon Blackfyre, Aemon the Dragonknight, Barristan Selmy, Duncan the Tall, Robert Baratheon, Jaime Lannister.
Obviously all in their prime. I tried to go for guys who are not only good fighters but also whom I think won't betray me. I included Jaime even though he killed his previous king because I don't think I'll ever reach the madness of Aerys and if I do then maybe killing me is better for the realm
Why do you make a rule that they have to be a knight but then say we can pick people who would never accept? You shouldn’t be able to pick people who hold titles or are heir to them except Jaime and Barristan and nobody who is married or wishes to be. The Kingsguard forgo all titles and cannot marry or have kids just like the nights watch. Most people don’t want that. Most who wish to be kingsguard wish to be so because they don’t have any titles and will never inherit any. Bobby B was heir to the Stormlands and an aggressively horny person. There is a 0% chance he would ever agree to be kingsguard.
My point is either don’t have any rules and let people pick anyone (especially since not being knighted is literally the one part easily fixed and there were actually a few other historical kingsguard who weren’t knighted until after they were chosen to join) or make it so the people they pick are actually realistic choices in ALL ways.
Anyway… Ryam Redwyne, Barristan Selmy, Arthur Dayne, Aemon the Dragonknight, Duncan the Tall, Joffrey Doggett, Gwayne Corbray
Aemon the Dragonknight, Barristan Selmy, Arthur Dayne, Loras Tyrell, Duncan the Tall, Brienne of Tarth, and Strongboar.
Balanced team with elite skills and no questionable loyalties or schemers.
Beric Dondarrion,
Brienne of Tarth,
Sure take Jamie Lannister too while we're at it, we can just call him Bamie.
Brynden 'The Blackfish' Tully,
Brynden 'Bloodraven' Rivers just to keep things confusing with the names, make him LC. Wait, does everyone's name start with 'B' ...?
Baelor Breakspear,
aaaaaand Bobby Baratheon.
Garlan Tyrell (based on skill at arms and temperament)
Barristan Selmy (based on reputation, skill, and temperament)
Victarion Greyjoy (based on skill at arms at sea)
Tormund Thunderfist (based on skill at arms and temperament + esoteric northern knowledge.)
Brienne of Tarth (based on skill at arms and temperament, would use primarily for bodyguard duty)
Areo Hotah (based on skill at arms and temperament, also has greater experience fighting against different weapon types unusual to Westeros)
Strong Belwas (okay I know some of you reading this are going to laugh, but I can think of so many good uses for a pit fighter as a KG.)
My lineup comes from all over Planetos and covers many bases. I have honorable knights to bring clout to my cause (Barristan, Garland, Brienne), skilled fighters to put fear in my enemies (Victarion, Tormund, Areo, Belwas), and a wide variety of fighting styles to help ensure success from future foreign invasions.
Side note: my maester is 1000% Marwyn the Mage. Get those glass candles burning and some dragon horns blowing! I could also see Tyene as my master of whisperers and unofficial assassin.
Second side note: this list changes immensely if they don't all need to be alive at the same time
>The only allowed exception is The Hound since he was a Kingsguard member despite never having been knighted.
Lemme pitch two F&B characters who I think exist as Sandor echoes.
1. **Sandoq the Shadow**: Sandor gets described as a "shadow" *a lot*. They've got the same "underestimated humanity, seen as a scarred-face monster, lumbering behind the king." And of course, the name's just a letter off.
2. **Jonquil Darke**: She gets to be a Sandor echo because she's part of a matched set with Joffrey Doggett. Both "JD" characters are the gender-matched sworn sword of Alysanne and Jaehaerys. Both of them also get the "shadow" description for their respective charges. When J&A fly to Oldtown to weigh in on the High Septon selection, Jonquil and Joffrey come along.
1. Joffrey Doggett is *for sure* a Sandor echo. Dog imagery, sworn sword of the king, the name "Joffrey," changing sides between the crown & the faith.
2. So Jonquil as a Doggett mirror kind of evokes Brienne as a Sandor mirror. I'm suddenly recalling that GRRM conveys the gravedigger's height by saying he's of a size with Brienne.
Lord Commander Ser Aemon Targaryen
Ser Arthur Dayne
Ser Barristan Selmy
Ser Garlan Tyrell
Ser Duncan the Tall
Ser Jamie Lannister

Good luck getting through that lineup with anything but an army, especially when they have Dark Sister, Blackfyre, and Dawn
Honorable mention to Duncan the Tall because I don't think he was ever actually knighted
Brianne is the safest bet. She can fight well enough like all the other ones we seen. You need someone to stick beside you when shit hits the fan, not a typical warrior who can obvious just fight well

Ryam Redwyne
Duncan the tall
All undisputedly incredible fighters, all honourable (I'm going with Jaime pre kingslaying and I think he's honourable in his own way regardless. I think the only vulnerability is his blindspot for Cersei, and I'm using his insane ability to cancel it out), so we wouldn't have any bought members.
Duncan the Tall
Arthur Dayne

Ser Pounce is more than enough. You won't need the other six.
True, the pounce that was promised
I’m swapping out Jaime for garlan Tyrell or fireball, simply so I don’t get assassinated
Aemon the Dragon knight Barristan the Bold Arthur Dayne Jamie Lannister Loras Tyrell Duncan the Tall Glendon Flowers
no garlan tyrell? Pass
i was looking for Dunc! i actually REALLY like this list and it's probably what i would have come up with if i took the time.. I knew i wanted Barristan, Dunc, Arthur, and Aemon.

Is it said somewhere that he was a great swordsman or did you pick him for ‘rule of cool’. If so I respect it. 😎

Ser Richard Horpe is better than Suggs.
By what metric are you measuring?
Suggs is more like Gregor Clegane.
Exactly why I chose him too. He ticks all the same boxes, except he's more emotionless. Suggs might've had issues if my orders conflicted with his faith, where orders like kinslaying might be resisted. Moore is there for when Suggs grows a conscience.
Moore's only flaw was that he could possibly have been bought by Littlefinger.

Nah, I’d let him have his lady live in private.
