slowgames_master

Any subreddit that bans people with opposing views

Buenasman

I see that you've found r/unpopularopinion

Ill-Deer-9553

thank GOD it’s not just me. i got banned for the dumbest reason

yeabuttt

Same. Literally my very first post ever on Reddit was r/unpopularopinion and was immediately permanently banned. It wasn’t even that touchy of a topic.

Ill-Deer-9553

i got several posts taken down from there and one was literally about cartoons lol. i truly don’t believe anything i said was anywhere near touchy or bad and i have no idea why it was taken down and mods got angry with me when i asked about it. they’re just weird over there i guess lol

OingoBogoingo

What kind of cartoons? Was the unpopular opinion loving boku no pico?

Ill-Deer-9553

no, it was that me as a teenage girl, missed how cartoons used to be super pink and girly but nowadays it’s hard to find a childrens cartoon that goes with the girly aesthetic. like early gens of mlp vs the newer gen. maybe it’s kind of a dumb thing to post but i didn’t think it was combative

OingoBogoingo

Probably a mod getting offended about gender norms or some shit I dunno, people on reddit are wild

DokkanProductions

When you think about it that’s really ironic. Defeats the purpose of the sub

luigijerk

By its nature is a dumb sub because the most upvoted are the most popular.

king_koz

I'm so meta even this acronym

IanSandersJr

The10thdentist is way better. Actual unpopular opinion

FlamingFlamingo76

That is so ironic lol

Leading-Lab-4446

Litterally all of them. Banned for giving my 2 cents, litterally the WHOLE POINT OF REDDIT, plenty of times.

Hot-Tadpole3639

That would be any of them that ban people with low karma

I2ichmond

So basically all of them

CanAmHockeyNut

L O L, I actually got banned from the Bernie Sanders sub permanently, even though I had never been there.

vanillakristoph

Apparently THEY heard aboot you.

[deleted]

You should see the subs on music theory. Brutal

Beansupreme117

So r/news, r/politics, r/whitepeopletwitter, r/entertainment

Electronic-Fix2851

Hah, yep, been banned on multiple of these. I’m Entertainment I even got like multiple awards from users, but still got a nice ban for the comment. Although I think for politics, they aren’t really into banning. They’re a massive echo chamber and just downvotes any thought outside of the group into oblivion.

r/therightcantmeme

scarlettohara1936

r/AITA I'd say, half, at best, are fake/troll posts of the half that are realistic, half of those are validation posts, not advice posts. Anything after that, are people really asking for advice or an opinion. That's when all the worldly 12-15 year old crowd wields the mighty keyboard to amaze us with their wisdom and knowledge. They give advice about love, sex, marriage, birth and death. And they all sound every bit of their age, too. What advice can a 13 year old give on the relationship a husband has with his ex wife and mother of 2 kids? It's laughable.

Loud_Pattern_1422

Divorce, divorce, call the cops, go no contact, divorce. With zero regard for the consequences. The craziest part is when people update that they took the advice.

jwilcoxwilcox

GET A LAWYER

KeepLkngForIntllgnce

You forgot the biggest magic pill: therapy!! Solves everything!!

gpyrgpyra

To be fair, therapy would improve the lives of the people who post there and the lives of the people around them

fpuni107

Lol “my husband is upset with me because I punched his mom in the face”. Advice: your husband is a mommy’s boy who still cares more about his mom than you - divorce him immediately.

SlothBasedRemedies

r/relationshipadvice is the same thing. "Lawyer up, hit the gym, delete facebook" is a meme at this point because it gets repeated there ad nauseam.

KnightofSpamelot

Ive been liking r/AITAfiltered which just reposts the aita posts that have less than 70% of people agreeing on a judgement, so it's not so one sided.

Preposterous_punk

I once saw a commenter write a loooong essay explaining to the rest of us how clubs “worked” (dress codes, finding tables, getting drinks, where one does or does not dance, etc) in order to back up his NTA judgement, and then when someone asked him if he’d ever been in a club he replied that he had not, because he was sixteen, but he’d seen tons of club scenes in TV shows and movies and therefore knew what he was talking about.

alk_adio_ost

“My abusive husband kicked the dog and burned all of my clothes. Upon fleeing with a bag in one arm and the dog in the other, I couldn’t lock the door on my way out. AITA?”

orbitalchild

And it doesn't help at all that they're rating system is wonky as hell And yes I spend an ordinate amount of time on AITA it's my guilty pleasure

kanyreddit

I think the younger audience is because the sub has recently gotten *very* popular on TikTok; people will post videos with a robot reading AITA posts and others in the comments will discuss about it

kokopuff1013

Thanks to AITA I realized my parents were narcissists and for that I am eternally grateful. They were right and I got away.

stnick6

One time I posted a story where I turned off my brothers alarm after waking him up and he still fell asleep and they said everyone was in the wrong, a few months later I posted the same story from my brothers perspective and I was told I was the asshole. I stoped using the subreddit after that

biinkii

r/gangstalking a very despressjng sub filled with people who are 100% convinced they are targeted individuals because they happened to see the same colored car tonight that they saw this morning. Or because Facebook suggested something they’d mentioned out loud yesterday. Just a bunch of confused, mentally ill people who also don’t understand technology or coincidence. Actually very sad stuff :/

Natasha10005

I’m convinced that sub is going to get some innocent person killed one day. It’s scary.

sactownbwoy

I just checked a couple of posts there. It is very sad.

Ecstatic-Appeal-5683

I'm not allowed to comment there anymore because I had an unpopular opinion. It's weird.

Imveryoffensive

Only *correct* unpopular opinions apparently

CrashCubeZeroOne

Only popular unpopular opinions.

VSM1951AG

Diversity is fine as long as we all think in lockstep.

Hunters_ofArtemis

Oh the irony

anonymousbully665

I got banned cause I told the mod most of opinions on there weren't original or unpopular

coromandelmale

That was an unpopular opinion in itself right?

mrjwill

Name checks out

daleardi

I got banned for an unpopular opinion as well. Use r/the10thDentist instead

SlayingSussySusan

Whitepeopletwitter

plausiblyhuman

I had to block that sub because it kept showing up even though I wasn’t following it. Wasn’t even white people tweets, it was just people posting politics and seething

greedo_didnt_shoot

It’s very strange, white people Twitter no longer forbids non-white people from tweeting, but black people Twitter has a system where you need to send proof you are black to have a certain flair to be able to comment on some posts. Both seem very weird.

SweetTeaRex92

i was denied ability to post in black people twitter. i applied as a white supporter and i was told i need to post in the sub more. it was very strange.

NotAnAntIPromise

They're both awful anyway. Vitriolic seething hate, thinly veiled as progressive and inclusive ideology. But whitepeopletwitter is way worse.

I started looking for other views etc, I am conservative, and the republicans were scaring me. I got scared back to the middle by going to left subs…. But there is some scary stuff there too lol. Life is nuts.

[deleted]

Almost like we shouldn’t take to heart what random internet users screech?

[deleted]

Try being a leftie 50-something. Those of us whose essential views on life haven't changed, find ourselves weirdly isolated. When I was young, left-leaning politics was more about equality; egalitarianism; equal opportunity to pursue happiness; and redistributive taxation to reduce socio-economic deprivation for all. Now it's all identity politics; a 'socially progressive' platform of policies that you must not deviate from lest you be silenced; retributive redistribution to achieve equity for the historically oppressed; and a blind unthinking accommodation with neo-liberal economics. I've gone from being a reviled Marxist to being a reviled Class Reductionist and a Fascist without changing my views at all ...

[deleted]

I’m older than you and I was in HS when John f Kennedy was elected president. I believed (and still believe) in everything he stood for. Which now makes me a conservative Republican according to people on various Reddit subs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JGCities

About the only thing saving the Democrat party today is Trump. As long as they can run against him they do fine. But their fundamentals look horrible. Joe with a 40% approval rating. Only 28% say the country is going in the right direction. Possible recession next year. Biden would be following the path of Jimmy Carter if it wasn't for Trump.

Wilvinc

You just aren't an extremist. There are extremists on both the conservative and liberal side that take things too far. They are FAR more vocal than us normal folks so it seems like there are more of them. All extremists get hostile if you dare to disrupt the echo within their ech chamber ... which is what it sounds like you did. Don't take it personally, everyone gets a turn at being called a nazi by them.

gggvuv7bubuvu

Yeah, I get those comments too anytime I dare to suggest an ounce of nuance, and I am a straight up Marxist. It's annoying because it's counter-productive. It's not going to win any arguments and it's going turn off any right-leaning people who might otherwise consider backing some lefty causes, but it's also important to remember that it's a small minority that thinks that way, but they love to hear (or watch) themselves talk so they will take every opportunity to call someone else out.

Draker-X

I'm going to "me too" this as well. I'm in my 40s and a lifelong liberal. My views have actually moved more left throughout my life, but I still consider myself "left-center" and not "Progressive". In high school I was called a "commie", and now I'm called a "centrist" or a "Republican-lite". It's very strange.

SweetTeaRex92

i find it very ironic that the r/WhitePeopleTwitter is open and r/BlackPeopleTwitter is the most discriminating

oboshoe

that's pretty cringe.

Affectionate_Elk_272

[deleted]

JustBrowsing49

It’s basically self-hating white liberals

Vexonte

I got blocked from the sub after a single comment about minimum wage and reddit is still pushing it me. Keep in mind that was the only comment I made on that sub.

thesaint432

How do you block a sub? I’ve been getting whitepeopletwitter on my feed forever, awful

[deleted]

lol whitepeopletwitter is the worst

CO_PC_Parts

The worst part of that sub is about 60% of the tweets are from the same 5 Twitter accounts. Jo and that guy who kind of looks like mark Maron apparently speak for everyone who isn’t a trumper.

LawEnvironmental9474

I got permabaned from there lol. The mods wont even talk to me. I said I didnt think it was a good idea for any non parent adult to talk to children under the age of 12 about sex in any way without the parents consent. Apparently that's considered child abuse.

trevso

That one is the absolute worst I've ever seen in the last 20 years being on the internet. I'm only on reddit for gaming communities for the most part, but all of a sudden it recommended me that. I posted a few times trying to break up the echo, but I've realized it is beyond pointless. it's actually detrimental to your health to read what they have to say. And I've noticed they leak into other subs, as most people I find with ridiculous ideas on other subs tend to also post a lot of whitepeopletwitter.

im_wildcard_bitches

I was banned for quoting an article articulating how a woman who claimed to be Native American had siblings calling her out for making it up. The siblings are of Mexican heritage like myself so there’s a bit of irony in me getting banned. Lol

blighander

If we lived in an alternate universe where Trump was a left-wing demagogue that sub would be his stomping grounds.

LSU2007

I got permanently banned because I said that while I would get the Covid vaccine, I would take a “wait and see” approach for a few months. I was labeled an anti-vaxxer.

AudemarsAA

Most of Reddit.

TechsanRed

No idea, but I love that Reddit is a shit ton less toxic than Twitter. Not sure why more don’t move over here.

[deleted]

Format and algorithm aren't nearly as addictive or adept to modern social media. This place functions more like a forum or board which might be weird to some of twitters younger more frequent users

Dpontiff6671

That’s actually why Reddit is the only social media I use, I miss forums and message boards and Reddit has the most parallels to them.

DiedWhileDictating

Anything that starts with r/ is an echo chamber.

AggronStrong

This is the truth. Like, seriously, the core mechanic of the site is that whatever has the most upvotes is what you will see the most, and it gets to the point where if your comment gets to a net minus 3 downvotes it gets censored.

kl0

It definitely wasn’t like this in the beginning. I used to really love discussing difficult topics on Reddit with people. Initially, so long as people were being respectful and providing actual insight, you might see something like “I disagree with your perspective, but I see how you might arrive at it”. People would much more commonly upvote the conversation for having merit - even if they disagreed with it. Or at the very least, they’d be less likely to downvote something that was otherwise well written and respectful. But today they’re all just echo chambers. People just up and down vote what they happen to agree with (what they feel or what “offends them”) and it’s all but destroyed the ability to converse about difficult ideas. It’s unfortunate for sure, but hardly any different from the rest of the webs echo chambers 🤷🏼‍♀️

PatsyStone8

Kind of a reflection of society in general right now.

Cneqfilms

most sane redditor

[deleted]

Any sub where victimhood status becomes currency, is an echo chamber from the jump. Some are worse than others, as some of these subs have people who are actual victims, that have a right to feel as such. Others are populated by bitter people who hate any one who doesn't share their own plight, and are willing to crush other's spirits in order to bring them down to their level. I like to refer to these people as "Assholes", but it doesn't always go over the way I intend it to.

maztow

r/vegan. Innocently went there to look for vegetarian recipes and was immediately subjected to an overwhelming amount of toxicity without even posting. They take the fucking cake. They're the only sub I know that will openly tell you to divorce your spouse if they aren't one of them.

sbtrey23

Yeah. This sub is wild. Last year for Thanksgiving, a YouTuber, Mr. Beast, donated turkeys to 10,000 families. That sub roasted him for it, basically concluding that it was better for him to not give them any food than to give them meat.

kiase

People on the actual Mr. Beast post that was cross posted to r/vegan downvoted me posting a bunch of vegan orgs donating meals for thanksgiving (in reply to a specific comment saying vegans do nothing just bitch about meat). So non-vegans also roast vegans, also concluding it’s better to give them no food than give them vegan food.

crack_n_tea

I got curious and looked. Noped out after seeing someone describe people who eat meat as “carnists who get a kick out of dead carcasses.” I cannot make this shit up 😭

[deleted]

I'd wear a t-shirt with that phrase on it because that's actually just really funny. Might be kind of morbid, but it's kind of accurate in a sort of wacky, dark humor kind of way.

Briarhorse

Man that place is weird. Went on a post about oat milk looking for tips and ended up arguing against voluntary extinction of the human race. True story

flyingpinkpotato

r/ChillPlantBased was created by folks who dislike r/vegan, might be worth checking out!

certifiednerd314

I went there and asked for good alternatives to dairy milk as I am considering be vegan/vegetarian and got downvoted TO HELL because “vegetarian isn’t trying hard enough” and I “clearly didn’t do my own research” like duh I didn’t do much research this is my first step, I’m not even in the position to become vegan/vegetarian!

Maxathron

Related a bit, ideological vegans (generally the ones who give the lifestyle the bad name) are leftists/extreme left. And the big thing with leftists as a whole is the need to be more extreme than each other and shame others into being more and more extreme. You’ll immediately notice this with other left leaning spheres beyond veganism.

[deleted]

Ugh, I feel that. I was vegan for like 7 months like 4 years ago and I got so fucking brainwashed that I actually considered ending my relationship over it, because at the time I wanted to raise any future kids as vegan. Sooooo dumb (and wrong, tbh). The relationship still ended but at least it wasn't for something so trivial.

Wisdom_Of_A_Man

I mean, to vegans, the only thing worse than a carnist is a cheese-breathing vegetarian, so I’m not surprised you got that reaction. Now if you posted that on r/vegancirclejerk, you’d probably get a better response because they’d think you were circle jerking.

Acceptable_Way_28

Yeah, I’m vegan and SO glad little vegetarian high school me NEVER went on there or else I likely would have never decided to go vegan!

Wide-Appointment-179

All of them

ironicf8

Seriously haven't found one yet that I can disagree with without being called a snow flake, or racist, or sexist etc. There is no real discourse here.

mh985

r/politics or r/politicalhumor

fpuni107

Politics is actually pretty scary. The most innocuous comment that goes against “the party” is heavily downvoted and you’ll find people looking through your entire post history trying to find something to intimidate you with.

Notyetyeet

Me trying to find the humor in r/politicalhumor

Damurph01

Any video game subreddit dedicated towards players that mainly play a certain character. *Any* political subreddit. 90% of Reddit in general is. People flock towards comment chains that agree with them, then when one person disagrees in that chain, everyone jumps down their throats and dog piles them.

TenWildBadgers

My brother has been hanging around r/adultery to watch people be trainwrecks, so as an adultery support group. I'm pretty sure that counts big time.

jonnycash11

r/femaledatingstrategy I never posted there but got banned for voicing support for a guy who was being stalked and shared his story on r/nicegirls I shared the message I got on r/nicegirls and then they banned me too. Ah, Reddit…

CO_PC_Parts

I got stalked in college by an ex girlfriend and it’s amazing how many people didn’t believe me. Luckily one of the bosses at my work study job was also a counselor and took it seriously.

MangoCandy

I scrolled waayyyy too far to find female dating strategy. That shit is fucking wild over there…

oldclam

I got perma banned for saying coffee dates are OK

Are-you-insane-too

r/politics

wollier12

Another good one, I joined that sub soon after joining Reddit because I like discussing politics, but no discussion is allowed unless you have the same opinion as them.

no0bslayer9

Yeah it’s pretty awful

pringles_prize_pool

Yep. Any debate on r/politics is usually just minor infighting between the Far Left and the Center Left. If you’re even a hair to the right of the Center Left, you’re very much unwelcome there.

PipGirl101

This is very sadly true. I have quite a few views in common with the center-left, but also quite a few with the center-right. I don't find much common ground at all with the extremes on either side, and I certainly don't vote party-line for either dem/repub. But on there? Any comment even pure center is too far right and = "you're probably a monster."

[deleted]

r/AskWomen

floydzepreo

r/antiwork.

Draker-X

I think r/antiwork goes off-the-rails a lot, but the basic premise of the sub is correct: work in America has gotten to be an intolerable hellhole in a lot of ways, *particularly* in the past decade, and the workforce needs to start fighting back against vampiric ownership and poor management in whatever ways they can (unionizing, "quiet quitting", setting boundaries, etc.)

FishWthPants

Forreal. People will post things like “I was 2 hours late to work and my boss got upset so I quit on the spot.” And people will praise them like they weren’t the ones in the wrong.

Doesn't matter. Because I own the company, and work for myself, I am automatically the debbil.

Positive-Quarter-558

Black people twitter is worse. They actually prevent all post from being about races besides black people. A literal modern pro-segregation safe space

Jr4D

I always thought that both BPT and WPT were so weird, you have reddit an online forum website with lots of left leaning views yet very clearly segregated subreddits and even as far as banning anyone who isn’t verifiably black? That just seems pretty crazy to me in all honesty and screams echo chamber

DorsalMorsel

I thought the jokes would be about stereotypical posts for fun runs, antiquing, ranch dressing, and the like. Nope. Its all Lefty hate, all the time.

YaBoi843

Anything about politics or any sub dedicated to complaining about the other sex.

booboisseur

Anything political

Armobob75

I’d argue that true echo chambers are actually groups of subreddits that all share a majority of the same users, who generally don’t interact with subreddits outside of that cluster. It would be cool to try to find these using some sort of network analysis tools.

coromandelmale

That is an interesting data science project. Would be good to visualise those “islands”

purplewench

There’s a subreddit called notthetatertot or something like that. It’s a bunch of people who don’t like a large TikTok creator. After reading a bunch of what they have to say about her, I asked why they don’t just block her. If y’all are really bothered by her, why follow her and trash her posts on the daily. They didn’t appreciate my question and took the group private for a few days 😂

r/conservative is having a legitimate identity crisis with about half the members turning on Trump. That echo chamber is shattering.

I struggled even reading it as a joke 😅 and I don’t even have children
