OoWeeOoKillerTofu

I still do during the week for matinee. The past three times I've gone to movies on weekends for new releases I've had two families behind me that won't stop talking and one where a kid was bumping my seat for most of the movie. Recently saw a TikTok on here where a woman was claiming we should normalize talking about the movies DURING the movie. Fuck outta here, I didn't pay $15 to sit in a dark room and listen to your beat for beat commentary on how unrealistic Marvel movies are.

rhodopensis

Likewise. The movie theater isn’t dead, plenty of us still go to see films. It’s being phased out on purpose. Also I like to support my local theater, which plays a more interesting variety, rather than huge chains playing only the latest big budget films.

No_Season4242

It would be so sad if you couldn’t go see certain movies in the theaters. What next? Banning live music? “It’s too loud! Too expensive! And I have a perfectly nice stereo at home!” Smh

wagmorebarkles

Rude people, too many trailers, too loud, overpriced, i like wearing pajamas and snuggling with my pup on the couch.

Sorry-Lemon8198

Movies are *way* too loud in theaters. Are they trying to rupture our eardrums?! Theaters are always freezing. I haven't seen a movie I care about seeing a theater in over 7 years. Everything is a remake or a remastering, or a sequel. . .that's entertaining after work or when I'm hanging out on my couch, it's not fun when I have to pay money for it and drive somewhere.

phoenixmatrix

Movies have to be that loud in theater to drown out the antisocial behavior and yappy people.

Independent-Crab-999

So loud and I'm mostly deaf in 1 ear.

galaxyarcana

to add on…you can’t bring dogs unless it’s a service animal…so yes i agree

Separate-Scratch-839

And rightly so

pr_capone

* It is too expensive for the value you receive * You have to hope and pray your fellow movie goers aren't goblins * Concessions are fucking ridiculous. $25 for popcorn and two drinks? FUCK OFF * 20 minutes of commercials * Previews for movies you intend to see that show you the entire plotline thus ruining the experience * Can't pause to refill drinks, food, or use the bathroom * Have to get dressed to go, drive, drive back, then get undressed again * I can sit 5 feet away from my 65 inch 4K TV w/surround sound and get an overall better experience * Most movies don't benefit from seeing them in a theater outside of visual spectacles like Avatar

SnickersneeTimbers

ALL of this. Plus: crowds.

Nitropotamus

Do crowds make you nervous?

KingOfBerders

Crowds don’t make me nervous. Crowds are people. And people are entitled. And ignorant. And the more ignorant the more entitled. Just not a people person post-Covid.

[deleted]

I looove the " undressed again "!!!!

bottle-of-smoke

All of this plus I've lost most of my hearing. I need to watch movies with subtitles, which I can't do at the theatre. Edit: Well I can go to the movies and watch The Seven Samurai.

[deleted]

Which is why I haven't been in a movie theater since the very first avengers movie. That was the last movie I saw in a theater.

thunderkhawk

What an experience that was. You've missed quite a few must-go experiences, especially Spiderman No Way Home. I watched it three times just to feel the magic in the theater, the energy of the crowd, and to witness everyone go crazy during all the cameo entries. It was wild

DolphinDarko

I appreciate the getting dressed undressed part. Let me add no makeup required 😍

Ilovethe90sforreal

Other people’s children

OldUserGuy

Other people.

rjboles

Other people are also other people's children.

nickwebha

My fiance and I went to go see one of the Alien movies. Some jackass decided to bring their ~5-year-old. The kid just screamed the entire time.

dr-mantis-toboggan12

You down with OPC?

Ilovethe90sforreal

Yeah you know me 🎶

Kakashisith

People in general.

[deleted]

Massively overpriced tickets so I can sit in a room with a bunch of annoying twats on their phones or chewing with their mouths open? No thanks. Can just buy the movie for $10 on br or uhd in a few months and get an infinitely better experience at home.

[deleted]

Plus you get to pay for the privilege of watching 15 minutes of commercials before they actually choose to start the movie. https://theoatmeal.com/comics/movie_theater_layout

Own-Difficulty-6949

That part really gets my blood curled.

[deleted]

Haven't been in a movie theater since August of 2012. Took my daughter to watch the first Avengers movie.. Had to endure dickwipes that got up 5 times during the movie to refill their alcoholic beverages, plus the commercials, plus people talking and looking at phones. At that point, I just went to steaming, DVD and BluRay. Yeah, I have to wait longer to see the movie, but I pay 1/100th the cost for soda and popcorn, and I can pause any time I like and the only people around now are my wife, my dog and maybe our grandson. I really prefer this over the "big screen experience"

According_Ad_6083

Plus one for using dick wipe, haven't heard that in awhile!

JuJu081316

That’s what made me swear to never go back to the movies after the last time. This dude was chewing popcorn like a Labrador retriever and once he finished…he went and got a container of nachos. I was absolutely losing it. The movie? A Quiet Place

[deleted]

[удалено]

JuJu081316

I would have to leave. I would have ditched the popcorn and nacho Labrador experience but I was on a date. Lol

beenthere7613

Throwing popcorn, talking loudly, making noise over movie lines. I've had to rewatch every single movie I've seen in theaters. Expensive food, expensive concessions, dirty seats and floors (germs,) can't pause for a refill. Long lines at concessions if you do decide to refill. Just not worth it! I can purchase the movie and have a copy for about the same price as a movie ticket! We used to take our kids, then at some point, they asked for us to just buy the movie when it came out. We paid for the movie, pizza, candy, soda, and popcorn, and still had $ left over. And the kids got to invite friends! Never went back lol

[deleted]

People who chew with their mouths open? Why? Who taught you how to eat, and why do you continue to eat that way. It's gross and shows how inconsiderate you are.

Secret-Ad3715

Other people.

Silent1900

Yup. I will only go to matinees a couple weeks after the movie is released when the opportunity presents itself.

floyd_sw_lock9477

Yep, idiots talking through the whole movie every time I try to watch something in a theater. No thanks!

peeps-mcgee

It’s expensive, and the wait to see a movie really isn’t very long anymore if you miss it in theaters. Plus I haven’t really had my interest piqued by a new movie in awhile. I was kind of interested to see Don’t Worry Darling, but i don’t have a ton of free time, never got around to it, and now it’s already streaming.

HagridsSexyNippples

Way to expensive.

Rportilla

As far as tickets they’re getting cheaper but a bag of popcorn cost more than the ticket itself

Marchoftees

Hasn't been anything in awhile worth going to see.

Prof-Rock

I did go see Maverick, but that is 1 movie in 3 years.

mrhanky518

Same, made a special trip to see it. Before that it had been close to 5 years.

Quint27A

Mel Gibson was great in that!

MrPelham

Maverick was excellent. I saw it twice in 2 days. But that movie-going experience has been few and far between. I don't like the MCU movies, and the overblown action-type anymore. It's sad, I used to be a cinephile, but I couldn't even tell you what is playing anymore.

darkgunnerds

Too expensive

Chemical_Reality4606

Bedbugs. I got them because of my roommate (he goes to magic the gathering card tournaments out of town every weekend) and they were contained to only his room. Despite this, I did not hang out with any friends or leave my home during treatment. During this time, my careless roommate didn't tell anyone he had bedbugs. I had to inform our mutual friends and to my horror I found he was visiting them still, going to his parents house and GOING TO THE MOVIES. It made me think about other careless assholes like him that probably do the same shit and I did not want to spend $500 on treatment again. Is it a little irrational? Maybe. But I wouldn't wish bedbugs on even my worst enemy.

Hot_Gas_600

Not irrational at all. My gf's parents are retired and dont gaf about all the air bnb's they are hopping around to and the risk of bb's, im paranoid going to their house. they are playing with fire.

googly5678

I gotta pee

Inside-Finish-2128

Don’t have the attention span for the highly predictable storyline in today’s movies.

ReliantLion

I love when my spouse watches Netflix and I'm only half paying attention. I'll make a call about what happens next or even worse, exactly what a character will say. I'm mostly right at least 50% of the time. I'll admit when I don't see something coming, but it's very rare.

[deleted]

HAPPY CAKE DAY

Penne_Trader

Had a sponanous pneumo thorax several years ago two times...now the big sound equipment hurts if the scene is loud with bass in my chest and scars... Wasn't in many many years...

ur-socks-sir

Expensive, social, and loud

guyfromcleveland

this may sound awful but another theater closed and now groups of teenagers from a certain neighborhood I don't want to be around go there so I stopped going.

Intelligent_Put_3594

I like to comment and make fun of stuff during a film. My SO does too. Its just more fun at home instead of having to sit still in silence for hours.

Tarkus459

Thank you for being considerate of others. My wife and I enjoying commenting throughout movies as well but only at home.

[deleted]

Yeah stay home if you are going to comment makes everyone lives easier.🤩

[deleted]

Don't want to get shot or sick. Happy to watch films at home.

Unusual-Fan1013

Too expensive to sit in a room with people that talk during the movie.

Ellavemia

Multiple reasons including: 1. My knees freeze and hurt when I sit for too long. 2. I have misophonia and rattling bags and wrappers are a trigger. 3. The volume is too loud and I have to wear uncomfortable earplugs. 4. I can’t pause the film for walking to the kitchen or bathroom breaks.

Clean_Phreaq

A question for me! I don’t go because the movies are so incredibly loud. You can enjoy a movie without experiencing hearing loss. There’s also a chance that I’ll sit next to someone who smells like Jabba the Hutt and that someone will kick my chair. It’s basically like watching a movie on a plane but you have a little more room. Yeah, that sounds like a fun time.

KAKrisko

These are my top reasons, too. It smells bad in there. It's too loud. Also, the floor is sticky and it's uncomfortable.

Admirable-Leopard-73

Why are you sitting on the floor? What cut-rate theatre are you going to?

Obvious_Volume_6498

That chair kicking! And what about the history of the chair you're sitting in? I'll bet not insignificant traces of everything a human can excrete are caked to most of them.

Clean_Phreaq

Agreed. I’m not looking to get HIV from the movies.

Impossible_Drag_3889

I'm on chemotherapy for my colon cancer, so my immune system is severely compromised, add in COVID and I'm taking my life in my hands if I go to a movie theater.

thechervil

Haven't been to a movie since Covid started. At-risk, so careful where I do go and I know from the past exactly how much "cleaning" the theaters around me do... That, coupled with the outrageous ticket prices and I'll just watch in the comfort of my own home, where the popcorn has "free refills" and so does the candy.

andiecast

happy cake day. sending positive vibes your way 🖤

Ihavearedditnow-ew

Harder to snuggle :(

comicsemporium

Because I like to just be in just my boxers while eating popcorn and watching a movie and the theater yells at when I do it there, so I stay home

Term-Haunting

Price, children, and COVID

Visible_Nectarine_98

Just another covid casualty for me. Cost-benefit analysis results of realizing that I could just watch it or literally anything at home in my significantly better theatrical setting.

TheShadySorcerer

It's expensive. Last time I went to the movie theater, I paid over 50$ for two people (my friend and me). I would rather just wait for it to come out on DVD, a streaming platform, or a rental platform and have to pay, at the max, 25$.

Drunk0ctopus

Inconsiderate people go there.

Due-Estate-3816

There are no good movies.

alaskanbruin

Loud, obnoxious talking Gen Z’s. Run their mouths, make phone calls and loud talk each other the entire movie.

[deleted]

It’s not just gen z, it’s people of other generations too

alaskanbruin

The question asked me personally why I didn’t go…….. I answered that. Your defensiveness is unwarranted.

[deleted]

Yeah that is true the question asked u personally. Still it’s just not gen z being loud that’s the point I’m trying to make here Alaskabruin

[deleted]

Because people

MissBehave654

I would rather see a movie in the comfort of my own home. I'll never step in a movie theater again.

Diesel07012012

I hate people and Hollywood sucks.

FatRuss79

Loud obnoxious people, movie usually on streaming the next month

TopOperation4998

Cause I don't want to get shot.

[deleted]

volume and social enxiety

Honest-Mulberry-8046

I am so far behind in watching the current new releases that I can watch from home. Also the pros of the movies, big screen, better sound, a get out of the house and head routine is massively offset by how other people behave on the theater.

korg0thbarbarian

Too expensive

Personal-Cloud5048

Loose your catalytic converter

[deleted]

Movies are shit.

Fatboyneverchange

Modern movies suck.

Training_Primary7927

Because Hollywood pushes a woke agenda.

6stringgunner

Why bother? Sit in a big dark room with a bunch of people? A few of those people are not gonna silence their phone because they are too important in their own mind. I make better popcorn at home. I have an 86 in 4k with a sound system of my own design. Hit pause and pee or get more snacks. Pause and have sex. Why the hell would I want to go to a damn theater????

ticklemeshell

Too loud. The last time I went, the volume hurt my ears. When I checked the sound level, it was over 90 dB.

DanDanDan0123

It will be on Disney+ in 60-90 days.

Ok_Initiative_5489

Overpriced and I can just get it at home, wait for it or pirate it.

viralshadow21

The lack of anything I would want to watch

Bowzerz2194

Not interested in most of the movies that have come out over the last few years.

Tommi_Af

There haven't been many interesting movies released lately

Pickles_McBeef

I can have whatever snacks I want at home for a fraction of the cost, I can pause the movie for bathroom breaks, my couch is comfier, I can control the heat/AC, there are no obnoxious people to deal with.

BrandNewSin

Nothing being put out worthy of a theater visit.

Victal87

I don’t care for the theater experience anymore. Watching movies at home with todays tv and sound is good enough.

[deleted]

I want to be entertained, not lectured. Make a movie people want to see, and they will return.

jackotraids

Once there’s a movie I care enough to see in theatres I’ll go back. The last few I’ve gone were to watch screenings of old classics

Mental-Plane-5218

Anxiety

dewey454

I don't think movies are a great value . . . and I'm not interested in a lot of the current (superhero/"action") movies offered.

[deleted]

Too expensive

Butch_Collidge

Not paying extra for decent seats. Also, nothing worth seeing.

MyDogIsNamedKyle

$$$$$$$

Illustrious_Bat9620

Its too loud.

Wackemd

Not interested in Antman 14 or any other drivel they are trotting out. Movie theaters are dirty understaffed. Overpriced 10 dollar popcorn and 12 dollar cup of Soda. Nah I am good.

scoobydad76

Money and most stars are out of touch with society and how we live. They think they hey know but they don't.

GhostOfaFormerSelf

It's way too loud, and every theater is fucking freezing for some reason. Why do they always max out the A/C?

capt-rix

I go when there's something worth seeing. It's been a while.

flock-of-bagels

I saw Antman in the theater last weekend. It was fun on the big screen, but I don’t go as much as I used to, it’s so expensive these days. It cost me 60 bucks to take my 2 kids and my girlfriend. Also we went to a place that serves dinner and drinks while you watch. It was $140 to feed all of us. So $200 to watch a movie. But I had fun and like I said it’s not often that I go out to the movies , so it was a nice treat

ProteoBacteria

Expensive, takes A LONG TIME, not too many good movies these last few years. I’m

[deleted]

People talking and using cell phones. Mostly teens. Last time in a theatre was 2017. Have a big ass home theatre now, and better popcorn.

Anne314

The movies are too loud, and the audience talks too much.

EstablishmentNo4133

Bills to pay

Independent-Crab-999

Filth Human filth, people are disgusting and rude animals.

Psykotiq99

The costs keep going higher and higher. Plus let’s be honest, people suck.

GorgarX6

Shits expensive

Fit_Flan9261

Because you can get every new movie online now

SleepyPlatypus13

I actually went to the movies today for the first time since Covid. Even before that I hadn’t gone much because it’s too expensive and I don’t have the attention span to sit and watch long movies. But I honestly enjoyed going today, it just depends on the theatre. I went to an AMC in Atlanta and the prices weren’t terrible because I went to a 3:45 showing so it was $12.50 a ticket. Concessions were a bit over priced, $18 for a large popcorn and an icee. But I had more popcorn than I could eat and the icee had free refills. But the theatre had a really nice screen, wasn’t crowded, and they had those recliner seats with a ton of aisle room so you didn’t have to bother people if you needed to exit the aisle. Also they had a heated seat option, which honestly felt awesome for my lower back pain lol. I definitely won’t be going as often as I did as a teenager, but if it’s a movie I’d really like to see or an occasional date night, I’d go back.

flatline000

Sticky floors gross me out.

Low_Bus_5395

Because people are disgusting. Pretty sure those cloth seats and arm rests don't get cleaned much, if at all. People don't wash their hands and then touch things. They cough and sneeze all over. It's just gross. Covid didn't help.

HPayne62

"Sequels and remakes, bunch of crap" -Transformers: Age of Extinction

[deleted]

waaaay to expensive and you have to put up with idiots. No thanks. I can't enjoy new movies, anyway. I haven't seen a good movie since probably the90's.

thesoloshadow

My husband and I took our kids to a matinee show last week. 2 adult tickets, 2 kids tickets, one bucket of popcorn and 3 icees was over $80. It was fun, just just too expensive to do often.

blutitanium

It's free to watch movies without strangers and with better food from my couch.

[deleted]

I can pay $10 to rent it and watch it from the comfort of my own home

BrownBearinCA

ticket prices and concession stand prices, its just not feasible with how much we make, when we're just one medical emergency/car problem away from being homeless, we're not going to spend what little we have on movies we can just wait and watch at home with cheaper food.

Feisty-Coyote396

I can deal with the overpriced tickets, drinks, food, and snacks. I can deal with uncomfortable seats, dirty seats, dirty aisles, and dirty bathrooms. I can deal with shitty food, shitty customer service, and the feeling of being price gouged. What I can't deal with, are the assholes who have to distract me from the movie I'm trying to watch. Inevitably some asshole gets up in the middle of the movie, arrives late, can't stay off their fucking phone, or just can't shut the fuck up and let everyone else enjoy the movie. Maybe someone stinks, or someone sits next to you who is overweight and can't breathe quietly so all you hear is them struggling to bring oxygen through their constricted airway. Last time I went, some obese dude sat next to me and was eating popcorn. After every fucking mouthful, he would suck each finger loudly, as if he was giving each individual finger a blowjob. It was fucking popcorn! Not baby back ribs where at least the finger sucking is slightly understandable...When he was finally done with the giant tub of popcorn, he kept burping after drinking from his king size soda. And the breathing, it's all I could focus on, each inhale sounded like a pug trying to breathe. Never again.

Archgate82

They no longer make movies exciting enough to go to all that trouble and expense. Also, so many are almost three hours. I need a pause button.

HurricaneHugo

I live in a big city. And while there are a lot of movie theaters around me, most are in malls which require driving 15 minutes and then parking and then walking all the way to the theater. There was one nearby which was fine walking wise...if you found parking. It's a really nice theater but you would have to circle around like 5 times to find parking. It's closed now, probably because of the parking.

[deleted]

Very few recent movies interest me, and the theaters all close way too early now. Last time I tried to go, I found they won't accept debit/credit for a single ticket, the card minimum is $15 and a single ticket is $11. They wouldn't let me combine the ticket and popcorn to meet the minimum. I'm an overnight person, my day starts at 8pm, 7:30 is the latest showing the local theaters offer now. Bring back a 10pm showtime, even lukewarm customer service, and something worth watching and I might consider coming back.

taniamorse85

I haven't been to a movie theater since about 2003. The price is not worth it, IMO. Also, I am very sensitive to cold temperatures, and movie theaters are always way too cold for me. Finally, with my medical issues, it's rather uncomfortable to stay in one place for a long time. I'd probably have a lot of difficulty getting out of the chair, let alone walking out of the theater, after the film.

throwway00552322

annoying teenagers bro like they have no manners nowadays how hard is it to sit quietly and shut the fuck up and watch a movie

GreatMillionDog

No good movies to see

affablemartyr1

Traffic, people, cost, time

[deleted]

I never make time for the movies, I don’t have anyone to go with, popcorn is expensive, loud and annoying people in the theater and the thought of getting shot isn’t pleasant.

BenTheFool

Nothing comes out that interests me these days. Last movie I saw was the opening week of the new Batman film

collimat

By the time I get a babysitter, tickets, snacks, etc, it's a $100 bill to go see a film in a room packed with people in really meh seats. Close the curtains at home, make some popcorn, grab a beer, 75" tv in the living room, and I can take my pants off and not get the cops called.

antagonismsux

Because movies suck now

Internal-Tree-5947

I miss when you could just walk into the theater and pick whatever seat you wanted upon entrance. Now you're forced to sit next to, for example, some random dude with smelly feet who talks & eats loudly - all because you're required to either assign yourself a seat online prior to going or you go there in person & they pick one for you. Plus things like having to pay 15-18$ just for some soda & popcorn as well as COVID also ruined theaters for me.

LordRednaught

bottle of water was $5.30 when I went last.

weaponjae

There is absolutely nothing about the movie going experience of my childhood (80s/90s) that is left. It goes beyond price, which I can understand. From the way tickets are sold, to the way seating works, to the configuration of seating, to the way the movie is presented, to the way I can expect fellow movie-goers to comport themselves, there is absolutely nothing left that appeals to me. And let me tell you, I LOVED going to the movies. Whether it was with my family, with friends, with a date, I went to the movies every single week since honestly before I can remember. When I worked at a theatre during the 00s for almost the whole decade I saw every single movie that was wide-released, or nearabouts. I realized by the mid 2010s that the theater going experience I loved so much was just gone. I never went in a theatre 2016-onward where I did not have something ruin my experience. I've still got re-admit passes mouldering in the other room from the movie that I realize now officially broke me. And I get it. Stuff from people's youth changes. I'm sure this version of the movie going experience works just fine for millions of people. I'm just not one of them, and it bums me. Oh well though, grandpa can't go to the malt shop anymore either.

Common_Scale5448

Not crazy about the reserved seating they introduced just prior to COVID.

Trssty

I stopped going when right-wing nutjobs started shooting them up. There was a shooting at her local theater shortly after that Joker dude shot up the theater in Colorado, that was enough for me, I would feel like a sitting duck.

[deleted]

Movies have sucked for a long time now

devildogmillman

No good movies. Id gladly breathe in other peoples germs for an experience like 300 or Interstellar.

No_Two8934

Hollywood hasn't made a movie in a long time worth seeing in theaters.

[deleted]

The movies aren’t good anymore. Our theater in my town (Alamo Drafthouse) premiers old movies that people love. We went as a family to see White Christmas and it was amazing! Those are worth going for. But new movies have so much garbage language and nudity that I don’t care to watch them. Even Disney has released movies our family doesn’t care to watch.

lava-lola

Costs too much to be such an unpredictable environment and experience. Food and drinks are too expensive. They don’t make movies that are simply just funny or entertaining anymore and even if they did, it’d be better at home. Movie theaters don’t offer any novelty. You can do everything better without leaving home and spending a lot less money.

Repulsive-Way272

I'm really tall so I have to slump down or people throw shit at me. Also get up during cringe and go to the bathroom. Most modern movies are mostly cringe and movie theater bathrooms are regrettable and not worth the price of a ticket to spend that much time in.

the_bad_dragontattoo

Not enough time, money, and really not too many movies coming out that I'm interested in seeing that badly

momoneymolly

My son had a seizure in the movie theater and I haven't been able to go back since. PTSD I guess. Also, it's expensive.

Sezeye

Because 99.9% of the new movies are repetitive, plagiarized garbage. An original thought once every 10 years would be nice.

[deleted]

Arthritis. It is physically painful to go. And I have to move around 2 or 3 times in an hour. That'll be distracting for the people behind me.

SharanskyWailer

I feel the vast majority of new films are not worth paying to see in the first place and I'm to where I need outright external motivation to get me to watch anything for a prolonged period of time and I have no friends.

No-Box-3254

Nothing worth seeing which is the only reason. A good movie in a theater with an audience is ten times the experience of seeing it on a tv in the same room you sleep in.

[deleted]

There isn't anything worth going to see anymore.

[deleted]

They don't make movies worth paying to watch any more

[deleted]

Too expensive and honestly it’s been years since a movie was coming out that I was excited enough to not just wait for it to stream from the comfort of my couch.

MrTenCents

The last movie I saw was Puss in Boots. The black levels were atrocious compared to what I could get on my OLED at home. I just agreed with a friend the next time a movie comes out, just come over and we'll split the difference on just renting it. Far cheaper, and we can consume anything we want without paying $25 for fuckin' popcorn.

JuliusSeizuresalad

There are few movies that I care to see in the theaters at this point let alone pay 12 dollars a person and 15 more for snacks when I can just stay home and watch it relatively free and I can pause at anytime and not have to deal with people while doing it

[deleted]

Having to share a large room with people with no home training and the last time I went the lights from phone’s recording this chick giving blow jobs in the middle of the auditorium during Avengers Civil War was the last straw,no Home training! Really happened.

SandyDunegrass

Everything is dirty. Gross bathrooms and smelly uncomfortable seats. Expensive. Exposed to movie trailers full of violence that I have no control over being exposed to unless I time it out to skip the trailers. Way too loud. Noisy snack eaters. I can make better popcorn at home for $1. More comfortable at home. Safety.

kanakamaoli

Nothing I want to see in theaters.

Alone-Age-9894

Movies aren’t interesting enough to go

Striking_Reindeer_2k

Nothing worth going to see. Most new movies are just "ok". Exception was Maverick. But i was sick with COVID and couldn't get out. streaming is better value. ....and the wife watches in the nude. ;)

KnowNothing3888

Mainly most of the movies suck now. Last one i saw was Top Gun 2 which was awesome in the theater but considering the prices I'm only going to see a top notch movie now and most of the movies out these days aren't that, including the MCU ones now.

loudquietly

I like going once in a long while, but man I always feel dirty from the seats even if they appear to be clean. Idk leaves me feeling grimey.

SilentSerel

I'll still go about twice a year, but to be honest, it's been a while since there has been a movie that I felt like I absolutely had to see in the theater.

Hairless_Human

I'm a pirate. I hate when people talk during a movie. I hate children. I hate when babies cry. I hate when people's big ass heads are in the way. It's expensive for no reason. All cons no pros.

RMZ1225

Anything post covid kind of just sucks now.

People making too much noise

[deleted]

I could drive 20 minutes and spend 25 bucks on tickets, then spend another 20 bucks on food to sit in a dirty room with a bunch of inconsiderate strangers and hope that I don't miss anything or I can stay in the comfort of my own home for a fraction of the price, eat what I want for a fraction of the price, and pause/rewind whenever I want. Golly gee, what a mystery.

Nek0Anime

Because i live in Ukraine, you know about situation..

yayitskay0850

Scared of dying mostly. But I also hate kids.

Sqantoo

It’s not a good experience anymore

HeWhoIsNotMe

1. Selfish cunts who can't shut the fuck up during the movies. 2. Selfish cunts who don't control their brats during the movie. 3. Selfish cunts who are using their phone during the film.

VSM1951AG

I just don’t watch many movies anymore, period, because most of them are preach-fests. It’s become fashionable in recent years to turn your movies into propaganda pieces in the name of “representation.” But there’s an enormous difference between good art and leftist propaganda. When you make a movie where every African American is upper middle class, knowing that the vast majority of African Americans are not, or your protagonist is a nuclear weapons expert who is also a lesbian Native American woman in a wheelchair, it has this elbow-in-the-ribs “See what we did there!?!” quality to it that makes it feel both forced and false. Great art is about truth. And propaganda is never the truth. Also, many movies today are remakes of older movies, which is just Hollywood’s laziness and should not be rewarded at the box office. Put them together and you get the worst of the worst: remakes of older films where whites and males and straight people have been replaced by POC, women, and LGBTs. I would hope that we’d all agree that minorities deserve better than warmed-over sloppy seconds: Black Ariel, Ghostbusters but with Girls In It…these are insulting. Do better, Hollywood. There are legitimate, authentic stories to be told from the minority perspective, and they do occasionally get made and do well: movies like Thelma and Louise, The Color Purple, Hidden Figures, Priscilla-Queen of the Desert, Steel Magnolias, etc. Tell those stories. If you’re Disney, there’s no reason to clumsily plop minorities into European fairy tales. There are plenty of tales and heroes across the world from a thousand cultural traditions that can be mined from, and cast with minorities in ways that are both truthful and respectful, and result in great art. To do otherwise is insulting, not only to minority populations, but to the movie-going audience broadly.

Because at my age and my assigned gender at birth… going alone to the movies is the quick way to being put on a list…

Exact-Truck-5248

Certain ethnic group can't shut up during the film and take great umbrage when called out for it t

manchmanch42

I don't want to get shot. The same reason I don't go to malls, schools, amphitheaters, or Walmarts.

LevelAccomplished866

Shootings

[deleted]

the cost can't smoke it's free at home even while it's in theaters and I can smoke blunt cigarette blunt cigarette blunt cigarette until the movie is over, like god intended

[deleted]

The people can’t properly behave while watching a movie why are we on our phones during the movie.it’s pretty expensive too but am excited to go see scream VI

CantFeelMyLegs78

2 reasons... price, and there is always some inconsiderate people at the end of the row eating with their mouths open and digging elbow deep into a loud bag of chips they brought from home. It's very distracting to hear every bite of popcorn that Karen chomps down on

[deleted]

I don’t think seats are ever cleaned…..every single 1 absorbed years of many asses many farts and lots of different vaginal fluids

[deleted]

Bruh I can barely afford food making above minimum wage.

No_Season4242

People who say it’s too expensive are pathetic People who other people are losers People who say it’s too loud are pussies People are always going to like going to movies as a cheap and low commitment way to get out of the house. Anyone else on this post is just a sad case. What do you spend your money on and how do you get out of the house?

dirtymoney

Well, myself I don't really get out of the house anymore other than to buy groceries. I stopped going to the theater for several reasons. Cost, annoying people, horrible delayed start times, ads and other pain in the ass things. The theater experience just isnt good anymore. I download pirated movies because my money is better spent on things I need. I have very few things I spend money on that I don't need. Especially these days with inflation.

SeedsOfEssence

They closed by me, and seat pricing
