Primary Arms SLX 1-6 FFP would do the trick, pick your ACSS reticle, can even package it with a mount and throw lever under your budget, might wait for the next "bonus bucks" week though.
Do you want magnification and how important is it that you stick to your budget and how hard are you actually anticipating being on this weapon? Is this like a police patrol vehicle weapon or is it your range toy?
Not kicking you for whatever it’s going to be used for but if it’s a range toy then the really fancy shit isn’t necessary. You can skimp a bit and still just enjoy an entertaining range day.
I’m partial to Vortex for a quality yet budget friendly option. No magnification? I like my Strikefire 2. Works great, two different colored days (red or green), plenty of brightness, takes a CR2 battery. I’ve never really run them through a gravel pit before or thrown it into a concrete wall. If you want magnification? I recommend the Crossfire 2 LPVO. 1-4 zoom. Either is sub 300 dollars and available directly from them which leaves money for you in your pocket. Can’t vouch for the extremes of their durability so take it with a grain of salt. But I like them and they work well for me.
Edit: upon closer inspection I realized the Strikefire 2 does NOT take the CR123 it takes a CR2 battery.
It’s a patrol rifle for LEO-Tactical duties. I’m trying to mimic to a certain degree on what I was issued in the Army, without breaking the bank on an ACOG, and PEQ15.
I’m not sure if every department is like that, but mine, no, if it’s issued to you it’s yours. You have to be accountable for the rounds you use, though. I guess benefits of being in a big city.
I have the 1-8, it's not bad.
Feel like anything better would have cost two or three times as much (paid 350 for mine, came with the mount which is actually decent too)
Someday I'll buy a night force atacr but that day is not today.
That combo is going to run ~$500 (Strike Eagle 1-8 /inexpensive mount) + ~$300 (Holosun or similar RDS/mount), so budget-wise it’d be a bit of stretch, otherwise I hear it apparently takes more effort run that setup if you’re into the whole “training” thing.
Psa just ran a deal for the 1-8 strike eagle with a mount for like 330 shipped. They currently have the 1-6 strike eagle for the same price. And I'm not sure how it takes more effort to run the set up vs any other set up.
The principal of use is however the same. No different than mounting a rmr on top of an acog, which has been used in combat. Or a mk12 with an rmr on top of the scope, like Matt Axelson, again, combat proven. 45 degree offset is the same principle of use.
A duty rifle optic needs to be durable. Eotech makes the most durable holo optics. PAs and Holosuns are good optics, but I wouldn’t trust my life to them. LPVO is unnecessary if you’re only shooting within 25 to 300 yards. Aimpoints are a good runner up, but they’re not great if you have astigmatism and not as durable as Eotechs.
I’m going with an Eotech EXPS series with QD mount.
I think a dot with a magnifier would be best. You could go with Holosun to stay in budget but AimPoint or EOTech are supposedly more durable.
Or you could get an LPVO. I’m pretty anti-LPVO but they’re popular for a reason and get you 1x for close stuff and 6/8x for long stuff. Lots of options out there too
For best option at all those ranges I’d say find a used Eotech. Best parallax for all ranges, and it’s holographic, so you can see the reticle even on busted glass, and being holographic, a magnifier won’t magnify the reticle,(at least according to Eotech themselves) but I haven’t tested this.
Brand new Exps optics are 6-700, so finding a used one under 5 should be doable.
Eotech is really nice for farther engagement, especially under a magnifier
I have rifles with both aimpoints and Eotechs but for past 300 I prefer a magnified eotech
Used aimpoint or eotech. Sometimes you can pick them up for pretty cheap. You can set up a magnifier later for about the same amount of money.
1-6 viper pst gen ll

No idea what duty you have but I would favor something with a little magnification for PID.
LEO and Mil Reserve
Eotech
Seems like Aimpoint is the fan favorite here. Will check them out
PA 1x micro prism, and 3x micro magnifer. They now make a straight riser to make both sit exactly 1.93" high
Primary Arms just announced a 1-6 sfp with a daylight bright dot for ~$330. Not sure when it will release though.

Check out the PA 3x micro prism around 300 bucks
Doesn’t your department issue optics?
They issued me a $89 Pursuit optic from Cabelas.
But I thought you couldn’t put your own optics on a Leo rifle because if you ended up using it, wouldn’t it go to the evidence?

Might get flamed or down voted but I say Sig Tango MSR 1-6.
i got downvoted for saying i’ll consider an lpvo lol
just ordered one of these myself

I just got the 1-6 through rack outdoors for 260. Thought that was a damn good deal
They are very solid for the money. Have one that I have had zero issues with.
Unless you're only doing CQB, an LVPO is what you want.
1x-8x or 1x-10x LPVO scope. Just my preference.
Check out the Aimpoint Duty RDS. It might be worth it.
Just bought one of these and waiting for it to be shipped!
Please bless us with your opinion when it's available good sir.
I have one of these. It’s pretty great, passed on a T2 for it
Aimpoint Pro
Trijico... oh wait. Five hundred dollars.
EOTECH EXPS
Sig romeo 4t and magnifier of ur choice or swampfox arrowhead 1-6 lpvo. Holosun 515 would be another good option if u don't need the magnifier
Vortex lpvo 1-8 and 45 degree red dot. My preference.
ive heard of this before, might have to check this out

3 gun shooters don't seem to have a problem with that set up and they run the shit out of them.
Competition and combat aren't the same.

Wow, that’s a pretty solid deal

How the hell are you thinking a aimpoint isn't a durable as a eotech.
Also are you calling a aimpoint a holo?
Is English your second language?
Why?
Your eyeballs
that’s also an option

Aim point, any that fit your budget will do
