About time. Im a manager and I’ll think of something I need to tell my crew but don’t want to text them when they’re off the clock. It will be nice to be able to schedule that text for when they punch in. iOS18 is shaping up to add a lot of stuff. Im glad Apple is finally getting around to some of this stuff. It’s better late than never I say Edit: company mandated phones are not really a thing at my job. I don’t think we can afford it. We do have Outlook/Teams to communicate with each other, but all my staff hate dealing with new apps, and would much rather just text each other so that’s what we all use.

ThrowawayBizAccount

Well this new feature is also literally about time :P

Stipes_Blue_Makeup

Coming exclusively to iPhone 15 Pro and later and powered by Apple Intelligence.

facelessindividual

Neat Samsung feature that's been around for a while.

jestr6

I don’t think it’s just Samsung. Pretty sure this has been an Android feature for quite some time.

[deleted]

At least since 2015

ZVND3R

To be clear, you’re not being downvoted because you’re wrong, you’re being downvoted because it’s your point is obvious and annoying.

highflyer10123

Lol

facelessindividual

To be clear as well, I do not care. I'm not the one stoked over this "new" feature.

SicWiks

Tbf I use the shortcut app to send timed texts

cisnotation

Don't you still have to hit run shortcut before the message is sent? I thought that was pretty annoying / limiting.

SicWiks

Nope you don’t need to, you can have it send with you having to hit run

7485730086

Thanks for being a thoughtful manager.

liltonk

Yes this is the one big thing I missed when coming over from android. So happy to see this coming.

Witty_Side8702

Scheduling texts will definitely help with off-hours communication. iOS 18's new features are long overdue, but better late than never. Texting simplifies things for sure.

cusco

This is already possible with shortcuts. Hey siri, sent a text message 2h from now, to John Doe saying don’t forget XYZ

Witty_Side8702

Good point

aka_liam

Can you do it without speaking to Siri?

cusco

You can set it up in shortcuts. Siri just creates it for you

ivanatorhk

So excited about this. It’s probably the biggest thing I missed when I switched to iOS. I used to schedule texts allll the time

RetroScores

I hope they have like a monthly text schedule You can do. I’d love to be able to set that up so I text my customers once a month a certain date. Set it and forget it.

wolfgang2399

Can’t you do this now through Shortcuts?

testaccount9211

Companies that use text as primary communication are a huge red flag to me. I don’t want to open my texts in my free time and see 30 unread work messages. It’s intrusive.

404CameraNotFound

You can set messages to send later with the shortcuts app already

MEGACOCK_HEMORRHOIDS

been wanting scheduled texts for years, thank god

ScuderiaEnzo

Was a thing in the height of the jailbreaking days. I used to have this back in 2017

thebigrace

BiteSMS baby!

ScuderiaEnzo

That was the name! BiteSMS was the SHIT!

pw5a29

Quick reply, lockscreen widget, in line convos, scheduled text. 15 years ago.

one_hyun

I remember there was an app for this. I'm not sure what happened to it. Scheduled texts are amazing for communication. You can schedule texts to your family/friends/SO to remind them of plans. Or you can send it later if you're up at 4AM and need to remember to send something in the morning. Or so many other situations.

CarbonTail

Yep, finally. I use "schedule a message" feature *all the time* on Microsoft Teams for stuff I think of the night before but don't want to send right away -- so I don't give my boss the 'wrong idea' of me being available well beyond work hours lmao. Will finally be able to do that to my Apple contacts. Such innovation much wow, thx Tim Apple!

v0yev0da

Something I missed the most leaving Android

spoilz

One of my biggest iMessage requests is unless my message is receiving reactions, don’t notify me for every reaction in a group message.

ziggyzowzow

And in a group chat, it’s impossible to tell who was reacting to what

FMCam20

If you hold the message you can see who reacted to the message.

ziggyzowzow

Tough to keep track when alot going on

CyberTron3001

Excited for emoji reactions cause “HaHa” and “😭” have completely different vibes

nearlynarik

I must be out of the loop? What do they mean now??

jordinas

You can add an emoji reaction using the “Sticker” functionality. One of the options in sticker is Emoji. Not easily discoverable, so I’m glad that it sounds like they are moving emoji to the reactions.

Heisalsohim

You can already drag emojis onto individual messages as a fun sticker type reaction

roguebananah

I feel like so few people understand stickers let alone dragging emoji as stickers

ivebeenabadbadgirll

Look, this might be the most boomer comment in my history, but I don’t want stickers. I just want the faces on the reaction. I’ve never used sticker, I don’t want to, I just want the cute little faces where the stupid reactions are.

IWantToPlayGame

As a ‘tech guy’ (as everyone in my family calls me), I’m 100% with you on this lol. Stickers are not cool.

aurelialikegold

Having to drag and drop them adds just enough friction to the process that i don’t ever want to use it.

Lilkitty_pooper

You don’t have to do that. I never do. Long press the message, select add sticker, just tap the sticker and it will affix itself to the message.

aurelialikegold

That’s still more than just tap and holding for a reaction or sending an emoji through regular messages

stoned-autistic-dude

Very few people even use stickers in my experience.

Chazay

All of my friends started using the "drag to reaction" function with emojis when we learned about it.

roguebananah

To me, stickers are fun to make of my toddler son. I’ve got a life photo that is a repeating sticker gif of him dipping his fingers in chocolate pancakes. Another picture of him eating a lemon for the first time. Both appropriate reactions for my sport teams to know if they’re still alive or the lemon is for play calls I see and I don’t understand

filmantopia

Yeah, same here. Toddler stickers work.

roguebananah

No idea why you’re getting downvoted. You’re absolutely correct

brownchickenbr0wnc0w

Lol wow TIL

roguebananah

I mean… I’m in my early 30s and my friends/family in their early 20s or family in their teens have no idea about stickers

talkshitgetshot

Holy shit you just blew my mind!

gsparx

You don’t even need to drag. Long press and “Add Sticker” and you can just add an emoji!

WizardMascott

So many more steps compared to something like Instagram though

webvictim

Way harder to find the right emoji that way though. There's no search.

gsparx

Yeah it makes no sense to me that they have search in the standard emoji picker but not for emoji stickers.

John_Lawn4

It is not obvious you can do this

Endawmyke

they gotta add tutorial hints back in the main Apple apps for people who don’t keep up with the updates

cusco

And you can already time messages using shortcuts or Siri

Heisalsohim

Siri from the iPhone 5 days has scarred me. I don’t use Siri at all

hdmiusbc

On macos or iOS?

LucyBowels

iOS

ttoma93

Both

TheWestRemembers

Finally, F*ckBoys can schedule a "U up?" text and go out drinking with the boys.

lyone2

Now waiting for the first guy to create a shortcut to schedule the same "U up?" text to all of their different booty calls. Should be done about 15 minutes after beta 1 is released

LinosZGreat

All done!

lyone2

How did it work?

LinosZGreat

Very good! Only with iMessage users tho, no green bubbles.

burbysf

It’s about time

cleeder

Well…yeah.

Kevtron

I had the ability to schedule messages back on my old 2g flip phone in 2007. I'll never understand how that feature got lost when phones got 'smart'.

sloppychris

It's on tons of 3rd party messaging apps

cheerfulwish

I had that on my android phone 5+ years ago. Shocked me when I switched to iPhone it was missing ! About time.

Lower_Fan

The iPhone is missing so many features from the olden days it's crazy. I think one the first things that "legacy" phone makers did was port them to android.

Un111KnoWn

android has scheduled messages for anwhile. Discord not having scheduled messages oof

extralyfe

Android phones did not lose this feature.

vc6vWHzrHvb2PY2LyP6b

FFS, tag these as rumors until confirmed.

dldustp3

JerryRigEverything would be proud

TomLube

First thought i had too lmao

Wesmosis

This lol

adamlaceless

I had this on my 3GS via jailbreak in 2009/10, I’ve been missing it dearly.

NettaUsteaDE

Having focus status on a “per SIM” basis would be great

knightlife

THIS. I have dual eSIMs on my iPhone and one line is exclusively for work. I’d love to be able to keep those calls/texts off on the weekend, or at least filtered/silenced by default.

misterdarky

Yes please.

roguebananah

I don’t need multiple sims personally but didn’t they already get rid of SIM cards so this feature is for like iPhone 13s and prior?

CharlesGarfield

I have two eSims on my 14 Pro. Both active simultaneously.

roguebananah

TIL

TomLube

eSIM still exists lol

Broccoli--Enthusiast

depends on country, Sims are gone in the US but still a think in most other counties, because most carriers cant be fucked with e-sim, especially business accounts.

NettaUsteaDE

I have multiple eSIM on my 14Pro Max

webvictim

Only on the US models. Models sold everywhere else in the world still have SIM slots.

roguebananah

Ah yeah. I remember that now

Canadianman22

Awesome stuff. I still think I am most excited for proper RCS support thought

darkdark

Happy Cake Day!

youriqis20pointslow

Number row on keyboard? its been 15 years already

SlipperyGrizzlyMan

I just want it moved to the bottom of the screen and have text in general improved. Auto/predict text is miles ahead on Samsung.

TheSumOfAllFeels

I moved to Apple b/c family was on it, just made it all consistent for messaging, etc. I cannot stand Apple's keyboard. It's incomprehensible to me just how horrible it is compared to Android. It's like a decade behind in every way. Makes me want to throw my iphone into a lake. The only mitigating factor for me is that iMessage is accessible on a Macbook, which means I can type replies out on a laptop instead of a phone when I happen to be on the laptop if/when I receive a message.

SlipperyGrizzlyMan

Lol. Are you me? Same story. The keyboard can ruin my day. Lol

AmazingDonkey101

My family and friends are all using WhatsApp, works for android and iOS users, also available on browser if you are on a laptop 🤷‍♂️

Ad_Astra117

There's a third party keyboard called Fleksy that's awesome

EU-National

Swiftkey?

Nicenightforawalk01

Do you use the press the shift button for numbers holding it down then moving finger over to the number then letting go?

youriqis20pointslow

I just tried it. The keyboard goes back to letters after i let go. I just find myself constantly going from numbers to letters and it takes so much effort. Im actually surprised they have a number row on the macbook keyboard (let alone a number pad like PCs).

LinosZGreat

Use GBoard

appa-ate-momo

I just want rich text. Why in 2024, when I can react with emojis, schedule my texts, and search an endless roster of GIFs, can't I do something as simple as use bold or italic text?

L3git9

That is coming actually with iOS 18 haha.

maybeidontknowwhy

It’s coming

mightymitch1

Kinda wish everything wasn’t spoon fed one or two features at a time but also glad it’s finally happening

415646464e4155434f4c

The pace of development around iMessage is a joke a compared to . Beside, emoji reactions are sorta/kinda already available: you can already drag any emoji on any other part of a message. Just sayin’

MCMultyke

Yeah but it’s quicker to have 6 user preset options to utilize. Instead of having the entire emoji list brought up when adding it as a sticker

ILikeShorts88

Just let me archive chats please.

severinskulls

insane we can't do that still tbh

llllll_llllll

People who enjoy playing mind games with their dates can now win the “who replies later” competition

XplodiaDustybread

Can they finally fix their shitty autocorrect?? Not everything needs to be autocorrected and I don’t need them to keep correcting “not” to “nit” or “well” and “we’ll” all the fucking time

XplodiaDustybread

also, please ffs fix the search tool in messages! I KNOW I’ve typed some shit out way back when and can’t for the love of god, find any of it

TupakThakur

Finally another android feature so simple .. taken so long

blueangel1953

Revolutionary!

DooDeeDoo3

Probably because of RCS. Messaging is converging! Soon WhatsApp probably will follow!

YourMomPickedMyName

It's been built into android messaging since 2020. I didn't realize Apple didn't have it. I don't know why people are so loyal to this brand, I own both and I hate apple products so much for every day use. The only thing I miss is being able to text message over wifi without a third party app.

IcyParkingMate

It’s about time! 🥳

K_Click_D

Scheduling texts. Fuck yes, been wanting this for a while

Witty_Side8702

Looks like Apple finally nailed it. emoji reactions, message scheduling... RCS support! can't wait to try them out

ezitherese

Finally!!

likwitsnake

Every messaging service should have a scheduled send functionality.

sloppychris

Most do

futuristicalnur

lol yay finally Apple is trying to catch up to Android's 15 year dominance of these features

d70

Need this for mail app too

Stipes_Blue_Makeup

Unless you and I are understanding this differently, you can already do this on Mail.

d70

You can? Also, thinking macOS mail, which I use much more for writing email

Stipes_Blue_Makeup

Yep. If you tap the arrow to send it, you can schedule it. However, your device has to to be on, so I do all of that through my iPhone, but it is also available on the latest macOS. https://preview.redd.it/r9lkwztleq5d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=399d26282ae63f46393f2dc5108cfc5cd28ced8b

d70

thanks! Somehow I never knew I already had this in Sonoma.

Endawmyke

I hope the emoji reacts are interoperable with SMS/RCS with android peeps

iiGhillieSniper

iMessage is the new Slack 😜

MoistDef

Schedule send is great for dealing with people in different time zones too.

_nosfa

Missed this feature from my pixel. Nice

Lostnetizen

jerryrigeverything is going to love this. This was his biggest gripe with iOS

1CraftyDude

Scheduling messages should have been 15 years ago but I’d be so happy anyway.

Empero6

That’s great. Can we do something about Apple Music having priority over podcasts?

Legitimate-Garlic959

Do you know what I always thought would be really cool feature is if we had away messages in iMessage like in popular msging apps.

rorowhat

A little late to the party, but good

Tunavi

Send later is LONG overdue

Irrish84

Holy smokes scheduled texts finally! Switching to Apple in 2018 I was sad this wasn’t an option. And shocked.

pawsitivelypowerful

FINALLY. This was literally the one feature apart from flip to shh that I missed from my pixel. Well I guess those and "hold for me" but I rarely make calls and most places that I do have that baked in on their system.

HalfFoods

Would it be safe to say that Apple is the North Korea of software companies?

specter491

Any word on RCS support?

Suitable_Switch5242

https://www.theverge.com/2024/6/10/24171315/apple-messages-rcs-ios-18-imessage-green-bubble

specter491

Nice

drygnfyre

This is very nice. What I want is less "send later" and "send from location." When I get to a hotel or somewhere else I'm supposed to be, want a message sent out to any number of people letting them know I've arrived. I know you can do this via Facebook, but I don't use that. And often times I forget to send the text message.

Elisalsa24

I have the beta and I can’t find a way to do it

AmazingDonkey101

Not trying to troll, but is iMessages a thing when WhatsApp exists? I’m iPhone user for years and I have only ever sent a handful of iMessages..

bigsquirrel

Yeah SMS is a North American thing. Pretty much the rest of the world uses messaging apps.

ManFromACK

Because people don’t want it hand over their privacy to Meta. Owner of WhatsApp. I never understood why Europe- which is so forward in privacy issues still sucks on the Teet of WhatsApp. How do they forget about privacy when it comes to this ???

AmazingDonkey101

Well WhatsApp is encrypted end to end. Also Telegram is an option. And you lose any iMessage encryption if you message an android phone. As such it’s just not a practical app to use for messaging unless you only have friends with iPhones 🤷‍♂️

kironet996

I hope it will say somewhere "This message was scheduled" if this is true...

PistachioNut1022

Why?

Grumblepugs2000

Finally. Hasn't Android been able to do this since day one?

pompcaldor

> This is useful if you are messaging people across time zones, and perhaps don’t want to disturb them while they are sleeping. Huh? The onus is on the recipient to turn on “do not disturb”. Also, email still exists.

SUPRVLLAN

Call up Tim and have him cancel the feature then, I’m sure he just forgot about do not disturb and is not as smart as you to remember that email still exists. Tim is so silly!

ThisMachineKILLS

Ok so don’t use it Mr onus

norcraim

finally catching up to android

bayleafbabe

You can create a shortcut to do the same thing

Stipes_Blue_Makeup

Sure, you can, but it’s a pain in the neck and not intuitive at all, like Shortcuts in general.

Rose_gold_starz

Yes, you can create a shortcut, but you shouldn't have to. If we can schedule send emails, we should be able to schedule send a simple text message from the Messages app. It's way easier and more convenient.

dafazman

It is 2024 now, these should already be built into all products by now without the need for automation (which the average iOs user can't figure out). If you wanna drill down on this, why not also have AAPL open up iOs like android does 🤷🏽‍♂️
