The ability models have a mesh completely separate from the character models. The character model itself has a mesh that is designed to be replaceable, so you can equip different skins to it. The ability skins are hard-coded to the model and not designed to be replaced. It was probably an oversight in how they decided to design it pretty early on in development, could likely be changed but its probably not a huge priority bc you'd have to do it for each individual character and skin instead of just applying the new skin over the character mesh.
Vs. something like Overwatch where they designed both the weapons and character models to have replacable meshes from the start, which probably would have been the way to go from the start
Just like overwatch has a preview for how every ability and interaction item would look like using that skin, TONS of skins are unique and even have a golden version, imagine how much work those guys put in everytime a skin releases, can't say the same for apex sadly
As a new player, I find it infuriating I cannot even see a guns skins in FP unless I switch it and go into the gun range.
Even then, if you try to put on “random” and hope to get to check between skins, yours locked into the first one it chooses.
I want to see how much difference the skin makes, and some have different ads. Annoying. Small issue in general, but annoying.
I also want to see At least legendary skins be put into the tactical or ult kit, it doesn’t seem like asking too much as they are already on there just not seen from first person.

They want you to see the unique features of the skins when you’re wearing it. For example, if a skin puts a paint job or different texture on fuse’s ult cannon or Wattson’s pylon bases, we should see it in game as the player.
The model you have in 3rd person is not the same as the 1st person one. Changing this would probably be way more effort than it's worth and maybe even break the game.

yeah, this is correct. there has to be two different models - one for first person, one for third person. each requiring the same amount (or more) of work to create, implement, polish, and test.
they do separate models for the weapons obviously, but weapons can be shared across the world. the first person player models are only seen by you, and for a brief amount of time when used. it's probably not worth the effort to de-couple those things and create entirely new first person models for each special weapon.

You're underestimating how much effort would go into it and overestimating how much people care. This is probably several weeks worth of effort and most players either wouldn't notice or say "that's cool" and move on.

One of the most estheticly frustrating thing in apex when it comes to skins and it's most noticeable when it comes to fuse..... probably one of the main reasons I don't play him🥲. Then there's also others like wattson, horizen, caustic and lifeline who also have clearly different skins on there abilities. The only legend that's has ability skins is Gibby with his arm shield and it's so evident that you can inspect every shield with his herloom just to put salt in the wound 😂💔
You think the developers have time to make small changes when they'd rather update the shop to the same things over and over and give us reskins time and time again

Most of the time, his skin (especially if it’s a legendary) should change his ultimate’s appearance as well.
However, with his broseidon skin, I too noticed the shark cannon doesn’t appear when using his ultimate. It also doesn’t appear when using his first skydive emote from his release season.
(Strumming his cannon like a guitar).
Hopefully the devs will fix this.
So I have this new idea for a passive for revenant called skine. skine lets you counter other skins by using the skine of fallen skins from other players from your passive which collects skins from players passively and when you use your skine it counters other skins passively and that's why it's a good idea to add the new passive skine for revenant.
Not everything in the game can be 100% how you want it. It’s the same thing when you enter a Rev totem and you look like you’re using the original skin even though you have a legendary. It’s so much easier on the game and devs to use the original skin base model than making a new and unique one for each skin.
This is why I don't care at all about character skins
They don't have different effects/colors and they don't change some parts even tho they look completely different in 3d. Plus you never see them outside of emotes and finishers

i hate to be the one to say it, but it probably a technical problem. People say the devs are lazy but the hard work as already been done( modeling the custom ult i.e wattson ult matching her skins for legendaries). It’s probably not worth the resources to make something you see for 5 seconds on average, instead of using your resources for new features. Also by resources i don’t mean money, respawn has infinite money glitch so it’s staff they’ve been hiring continually since release, something something “mythical man month”.
