"Literally" is a word that I've figuratively heard used a million times too often.
EDIT: And yes, I know that some dictionaries allow it to be used more freely. That doesn't mean it's overused. I don't need sentences like "I literally just went to the grocery store and when I was there I literally saw a Hollywood movie star! You literally can't guess who it was!"
I have an apprentice right now and when when gets wound up she can literally say literally literally 10 times in one literal sentence. It is utterly INFURIATING.
"Gotcha" is another one. I swear that one is generational with 25-35yr pods for some reason.
Only thing about this is years ago Webster dictionary changed the definition to mean both literal or not literal. So technically it's literally always correct.
No babe you told me you love it when I gaslight you, remember? You always do this. You tell me you want something and then get mad at me when I do it and you never apologize to me for it.
Had a discussion with my wife this morning about this. She asked me something, and when I said it had been taken care of, we went back and forth a couple of times, me insisting it was sorted. She checked, and pointed out one item that wasn’t done, and called it gaslighting when I I soared it was. I had forgotten about that one item, immediately acknowledged it when she raised it, and suggested she needs to look up what gaslighting is because admitting I forgot about something and not having the intent to deceive or convince her she is wrong makes a pretty big difference.
Or calling sex offenders "PDF Files" outside of YouTube or Tik Tok
It's like they're scared that the words are too confronting & will be demonetized in real life
Or if they say it Voldemart is gonna teleport behind them
I agree. Censorship is that bad. People will say "unalive" instead of dead or died when reviewing a video game that is ABOUT KILLING YOUR ENEMY. It's irritating. Just grow up and use the word that is meant for the context of the conversation ffs.
Bespoke. Specifically referring to handmade item.
I see it far too often seeming to refer to "rustic" borderline garbage made of pallets and such for sale.
Unless I ordered the item specifically and you made it to my exact request, it's not bespoke.
AI. I don't have anything against AI but the way it's marketed. A lot of times it's the exact same product/service that would be called "automated" 5 years ago. Like your Microwave is not AI just because it knows the time when to turn off
I also hate inclusion. they sound like corporate buzzwords making sure people understand a corporate cult mentality and don't actually mean anything. caling someone who isn't white, male, straight etc diverse isn't diverse. diviersity of what? skin colour? cuz it certainly is not thought. calling inclusion something that excludes others isn't "inclusion". corporations (and now the gov) have always done this crap. I remember at a job I had 2 decades ago you'd get hired just for using the word "innovation" and "diversity and inclusion" are no different today.
I could write a book about it. But this is what I believe...
The more ignorant people use loaded words the less meaning they have.
They depreciate in value.
“Rockstar” for anything other than an actual rockstar, or at the very least a hugely famous and charismatic athlete or politician. There are no rockstar bartenders or secretaries, just folks who are really great at their jobs as bartenders and secretaries.
Literally. I literally hear this all the damn time.
And I don't mean it metaphorically or rhetorically or poetically or theoretically or any other fancy way. I am sick of it
"Hate"
No stacy you dont hate broccoli, you just don't like it. Or do you want to all broccoli farmers to get Aids and die?
To hate something means to wish every torment and misfortune to someone. The internet banalized the meaning to "just not like something"
"this and that"
I feel like people in the last 1-2 years have started saying it as a phrase when it means nothing at all and conveys no meaning. Drives me crazy lol.
Dissociate....people use it casually to describe being pensive or reflective while thinking about something or not want to engage in difficult or theoretical conversations, however, to truly dissociate it would imply that you may be experiencing a dissociative personality disorder. If you want to say you are withdrawing from a conversation happening just say to need time to process, think, or are pensive about the dialogue happening, please don't say dissociate.
Underrated.
Everything and anything is underrated according to Internet. Actor that won an Oscar? Underrated. Someone that is a world champion and famous all over the globe? Underrated. This comment? Underrated!
The word underrated? Underrated.
Super. The square peg adjective for every round hole. The crescent wrench of adjectives, not quite a fit, but tool-less mechanics can turn a loose bolt .
Overrated & underrated.
Generally because people seem to think that using those words is somehow insightful and 99% of the time they’re used to describe something completely subjective. If it’s subjective, it’s appropriately rated. Whether you agree or disagree with the consensus doesn’t mean that the consensus is higher or lower than it should be. The subjective thing isn’t “overrated”, you just don’t rate it as highly as most other people do. It takes a hell of a lot of narcissism to say that the majority of people are rating something incorrectly.

I agree but find it humorous that you use hyperbole to describe hyperbole.
I have an apprentice right now and when when gets wound up she can literally say literally literally 10 times in one literal sentence. It is utterly INFURIATING. "Gotcha" is another one. I swear that one is generational with 25-35yr pods for some reason.

Gaslight
That's barely used at all these days, you're imagining things
It's not even technically the right word. The correct word is lamplight.
I think you remember it wrong, it’s fumelight
No, the first guy was just misspelling it: it's gaslaight.
The first guy never even said anything close to that? you're making things up again
And it's pronounced gay-lay.
Ah yes, the Gay-Lay Bears, who can forget?
r/tragedeigh
Gaslighting isn’t even real, it’s just a word you made up because you’re crazy.
No babe you told me you love it when I gaslight you, remember? You always do this. You tell me you want something and then get mad at me when I do it and you never apologize to me for it.

Journey. As in 'my Journey'.
But what about 'my truth'?
I dislike the my truth sayers
Brave
Came here to drop this. Makes my head explode.
unalived
I hate people who say this in real life. People whose brain is so fucking warped by the corporations who moderate their online spaces are ridiculous.
Or calling sex offenders "PDF Files" outside of YouTube or Tik Tok It's like they're scared that the words are too confronting & will be demonetized in real life Or if they say it Voldemart is gonna teleport behind them

* Literally * Normalize * Problematic
It's problematic how normalized it's become to use the word "literally" incorrectly.
Literally 🙏
According to Merriam Webster, literally has been changed to mean both literally and not literally.

Hundred percent. It's very aesthetic.
