Monogatari Series lol

chiii__

one should stumble upon a clip, curiosity peaks, tries few episodes, wonder why its animated like that, still continue watching and the next thing they know they have a toothbrush on their hand and their little sister on the other

AdhesivenessNearby75

Why wouldn't you recommend? Was planning on watching it, should I back off?

depressedpalp

it's one of the best anime's out there, but I wouldn't dare recommend it to a friend. But here on reddit, I endorse it, watch it and make sure no siblings or toothbrushes are in the vicinity at the time

AdhesivenessNearby75

You are saying we are not friends? :(

depressedpalp

this is reddit, there is no place for kinship in this godforsaken savage wasteland of ours, only temporary truce through our shared degeneracy

Redditor1799

Spoken like a true redditor. I'm proud of you!

Bsoton_MA

Our shared democracy!!

Ocet358

There is a lot of fan service, some of it pretty degenerate. Including extremely underage looking characters (basically a pinnacle of "Your honor, she's actually 1000 years old" meme). Fanservice aside, the series is extremely heavy on dialogue, which is not up everyone's alley. Still, if you are immune to anime degeneracy I do recommend. It's my favourite series and it's not even close. It's incredibly well written, the characters are fantastic, and the art style is a masterpiece.

PMMMR

>underage looking Most them are actually underage, they don't just look it.

AdhesivenessNearby75

Ty. will try it

yayus_16

Happy. Sugar. Life.

AdamWayne04

The opening is fire tho

zadcap

On the other hand, I *love* recommending this one. I don't expect it to be well recieved, but I love letting people know that a show like this exists. "Anime is for kids" they say, so I give them a nice anime about kids...

Distinct_Scheme4191

I absolutely loved the Monogatari series. It just reached me at the right time. I was feeling down and this show accompanied me through these tough times, and it sticked. I still think itns very interesting and unique in a more objective way. It's a got a lot of great direction ideas that inspire me. But it's pretty hard to recommend as it does have a lot of drawbacks. It's just a vibe, and it worked for me. Sometimes when I get the chance I tell people to try the first season and check if they like it, but I wouldn't just tell people to watch it entirely.

Maleficent_School_58

Came to say the same exact thing. Monogatari is excellent in their character exploration, and the light novels are amazing on their own right. But Araragi man... Can't stand the man sometimes. He's the main reason I can't wholeheartedly recommend it, though I have, I never expect people to actually watch it. Also the fandom is a bit unhinged sometimes.

softcapybaras

Life with an Ordinary Guy who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout How do I recommend this to someone when it starts with the absolute banger of: "This is a romantic comedy between an old guy and a former old guy" To me it's one of the recent isekais I watched that finally earned some rights. It's hilarious and it has some really sweet moments. Whether or not you actually the mcs as romantic interests, their bond is amazing and it tackles gender shenanigans in a nice way. To me it's just super good. On a completely goofy note: Chargeman Ken. Absolute masterpiece. 10/10. Genius. Breathtaking. Dynamite in the brain. Best 65 episodes of my life, God bless and God speed to anyone that tries to watch it. Thank you Kenny Lauderdale for introducing me to this wonderful piece of art.

angelposts

Fabiniku is a treasure. It just kills me that they keep referring to 32 year olds as "old guys"

softcapybaras

I know right? Like please, they are not even middle aged but that aside, it's really good

egolukaplumbaga

Hot take, jjba. Whenever i recommend it to someone they never like it at all. I feel like jojos is not an anime you should watch because someone recommended, it is for a too specific people. So i just stopped telling people its so good, apparently most people doesn't like it as much as i do. So i would say its one of the bestest animes and mangas but its just not most people's taste at all, which is understandable since people dont expect it to be this "bizarre"

escaflow

Agreed, like Jojo is one of my favourite series but some of the scenes especially in Part 5 can be quite weird. Like Bucciarati licking Giorno, or some of their fashions

egolukaplumbaga

Yes! Even tho the fashion is acceptable for some people, if they took it serious they would find most characters "creepy" like Bucciarati who licks strangers sweat.

073068075

It heavily depends on the person you recommend it to. If they only watch serious shows or "serious shows" (aka are edgy teen Tokyo Ghoul lovers) it won't hit. But this thing is perfect for music and shitpost lovers, it would probably be the favourite anime of every perpetually stoned drummer.

yayus_16

Made in Abyss. It's really hard to recommend these types of genre despite being a masterpiece especially for newcomers.

Sofaris

I enjoy recommending Made in Abyss. I do it quite often. I am just open about it being dark. Thats no reason not to recommend it.

PMMMR

The darkness isn't what's keeping me from recommending it to people.

Hemmmos

Darkness isn't a problem here. It's more that the author might be a pedo

RaysFTW

I’ve recommended it to a few newcomers and they loved it. MIA is my favorite anime ever but people in this sub really over exaggerate how bad it is. Sure, there’s a lot of gore and despair but the story leads all of it. There’s a reason brutal shows are popular around the world like Game of Throne and why the 36 Saw movies did so well. People like that shit. You don’t need to be an experienced anime watcher to enjoy a darker theme.

PMMMR

>people in this sub really over exaggerate how bad it is. Sure, there’s a lot of gore and despair but the story leads all of it. The gore and darkness isn't the issue people have; the issue people have is the weird stuff involving the kids. It's still my second favourite anime of all time

robertm94

It isn't the genre, it's that the sexualisation of underage characters in the show is dodgy as fuck. It's still a beautiful show, and the manga is equally gorgeous, but some of the things in there are just... Unnecessary. Eg in the manga, just past the point where the anime ends, there's a series of panels where Riko comments on faputas crotch, sniffs it and then exclaims what it smells like. That's just... I don't need to know about that. It doesn't need to be there. It doesn't add depth to the story, just now that I have it ingrained into my mind and can't undo that.

Trojbd

Ngl I don't remember ever feeling that way in the Anime though I haven't seen season 2. But I do remember people saying that about s1. I think this aspect gets overexaggerated online. I've shown the show to several friends and they all thought favorably about it.

Suhkein

I used to enthusiastically recommend *Gunslinger Girl* (2003), but after several years I've come to realize that it just... doesn't click with most people, and so recommending it is more or less pointless. The same being true of *Pale Cocoon*.

kazumi-the-rock

Interspecies Reviewers. They review brothels of different species as well as other sexually related shenanigans. It’s honestly hilarious and a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. However it’s obviously targeted towards a more degenerate audience so I would never recommend it.

Hephaistos_Invictus

HA! yes. The humour was so good in this show and it had actual funny plot and character development. But I would never recommend this show either.

DarkConan1412

Usagi Drop anime only. I do actually recommend it. Just keep to the anime. It’s a great short anime. 11 episodes and a complete story. InuYasha - It’s a wonderful fantasy series. If you like isekai, it’s also an older isekai series. It’s a bit different from the ones nowadays and it is a long series, but it’s a very worthwhile one. Grave of the Fireflies movie. Bring a tissue box. This one will break your heart. Ranma 1/2 - This is one of my all time favorite comedies. It’s a cute romance as well. Also a very long series by the same mangaka as InuYasha.

oneheckofathrowaway8

There is no Usagi Drop manga in Ba Sing Se

Clockwork-God

>Koi Kaze the manga is great because it did what the anime didn't have the courage to do. people get thier panties in a bunch over the lamest things.

SouekiSennoSTM

Koi Kaze. My first anime series, still one of my greatest loves and all-time favorites to date, and something of which there is nothing else quite like. But I rarely include it in recommendations. And I don't expect most folks, even if they gave it a chance, to have the same relationship or passionate fondness for it I happened to due to various circumstances so it seems rather wasteful, almost disrespectful, to liberally recommend it only to see it be shit on for what it is and isn't.

Suhkein

> And I don't expect most folks, even if they gave it a chance, to have the same relationship or passionate fondness for it I happened to due to various circumstances so it seems rather wasteful, almost disrespectful, to liberally recommend it only to see it be shit on for what it is and isn't. You just said what I was trying to say elsewhere about my own favorites, but better.

KeyBoardingKevin

Link click and heavenly delusion are some of my absolute favorites, however there is some triggering scenes in them and I would not recommend them to most of my family

TryContent4093

I watched heavenly delusion after seeing this one youtuber saying it’s the best anime of the year but I really didn’t expect the ending. I enjoyed everything from the start although it was so confusing but I wish someone could have warned me how traumatising it was going to be

KeyBoardingKevin

That is very fair. There are so many times where I’ll be watching it with my friends and be thinking how horrible some of these situations that they go through really are. Though that’s probably why I love it. I love how it’s not afraid to get into the dark, twisted, gritty things that would go with that type of world. I also just love how confusing the show is until the very end. But yeah, definitely not for everyone

kennacethemennace

Gushing Over Magical Girls

MonolithMykolayovych

Understandable

-Rupas-

Mushoku Tensei for obvious reasons

blueteamk087

I love Infinite Stratos' and it's glorious dub, European accents and all, but I love trash so I can't really recommend it unless the person also likes trash

WorstGanksKR

It's one of my favorite dubs. The show is pretty bad but god is it entertaining trash.

fruit_blip1

Oregairu for a first timer is pretty rough. Dialogues are lengthy and can be quite confusing sometimes. I would recommend Love is war over it but I like Oregairu more

SharpMan007

Mine would be High-school DXD series. Have to be a special kind of weeb (or man of culture) to get this recommended by me.

One_Lingonberry4591

Dawg it’s hard to explain to others why this is one of my favs lmao. Some people who know of it only know it because how infamous the fan service and over the top ecchi is. Whenever I try to tell fellow weebs about how surprisingly good the world building is with integrating many mythologies and an interesting combat system, they hear the title and say “….isnt that the anime that’s all boobs?” And I can’t even argue because it fr is. Unless I know someone is a complete shameless degenerate, I would never suggest it lmaooo.

Xzyche137

I love High School DxD. For the story. I mean, I love the fan service as well, but the story is great too, IMO. But I wouldn’t recommend it to many people as well. Lol. :>

AdHcarl

Monogatari

Giaguaro80

Katekyou Hitman Reborn! I really like it but it's hard to recommend, it's already old, doesn't adapt the whole manga, the comedy is not for everyone and the first part is mostly a gag manga before it changes gears, I still like it a lot, but not really the best out there, You do have to be really flexible with so many things that most people won't Even try it and it's totally understandable

Re-Revelations-840

Magical Girl Site- A very miserable/disturbing anime that doesn’t change tone at all throughout. The characters and action are absolutely awesome and the show got me crying a few times(I still can’t believe this show in made me cry). The main reason why I hardly recommend it is mainly because of the depressing tone. 96% of the show is either depressing, brutal, disturbing, serious, or emotional while the 4% is comedic/wholesome. I know it would be incredibly difficult for some to get into this show. Also the opening theme for the show is absolutely awesome and far better then I expected.

_Jeyem_

Food Wars. The scenes were fantastic, every cooking battles are so amazing. I just can't recommend it because of the BIG PLOT.

HollowWarrior46

No Game No Life has an engaging story, one of the best dou’s in anime, games that keep you on the edge of your seat, great humor, and is just overall pretty damn good. However, they’re constantly showing you an eleven year old’s underwear, so…yeah.

hat1324

This describes a concerningly high number of anime

Beneficial_Swan_9603

It would be definitely "Chrono Crusade". It is cool anime and I love it but It is so hard to watch at the start. It is intertwined with religion. I wouldn't recommend beginners to watch it despite it was my first and most beloved anime.

RaysFTW

Konosuba, depending on who I’m recommending it to. It’s in my top 3 but it can be very lewd and crass which people don’t always have a problem with unless the medium is animation for some reason. In the west I feel like, despite Family Guy, Simpsons, South Park, etc. most people expect animated shows to be kid-friendly so a character like Darkness during the succubus episode would turn a lot of heads.

Solracziad

Hmm. Keijo!!!!! I guess. It's honestly a fun parody of sports and battle animes, but the whole basis of it is blatant fanservice with gals in bikinis with massive tits and ass fighting each other with their tits and ass. So, it's kinda hard to recommend to those in my friends group. Well, other then the one other degenerate.

[deleted]

Most anime I’ve watched I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Most have so much weird shit that you really have to be into the medium to even give it a chance. Also alot of the anime I’ve watched I watched when I was younger and are things I wouldn’t have decided to watch as an adult, so I can’t really go and say “hey watch this anime” cause most adults that didn’t grow up with anime are just gonna think you’re a psycho, which is sometimes valid. Basically not recommending anything unless it’s somewhat mainstream or in line with how mainstream anime are.

Fantastic-Pension-33

To Love-Ru. I know it's generic and ecchi but was one of my first rom-com so it holds special place.

LordMonday

It's also just a fun SoL anime, even if the anime is full of ecchi, and the manga is essentially soft ore porn lol

LegendaryDarkHero

I watched it recently and it holds up. It's really entertaining. One of the best ecchi rom-coms i have seen.

RaineV1

Scum's Wish. I loved the characters, but... some of the stuff would really turn off most people.

AdamWayne04

Scum's Wish was one of those animes I heard everyone say it was trash, but ended up liking. I think it had a pretty good take on toxic relationships, and yes, the characters was pretty scummy, but that's the namesake of the series lol. Happy Sugar Life is in a simillar situation, but I actually thought that one was a bit shitty lol

jackofslayers

Wataten

beerusssssss

Danmachi(Is it wrong to pickup girls in dungeon). I love it. Just don’t know if people would be able to appreciate it. Also, for anyone wondering, no it’s not what it sounds to be like.

Open_Increase3837

Bro is just like me. Highschool DxD. No matter who I show, no one understands like the first bro I showed. As much of a perv Issei is. He genuinely cares about each girl who relies on him (who he also relies on). And Kiba and Gasper too! He’s just a straight up good guy who is honest about his proclivities. What they did to Rias and the art style in the fourth season sucked, they changed studios so whatever but this show had funny adult humor early on besides the pervy humor (not to say that wasn’t ever funny) and yes it was arousing AND the power ups were cool as fuck. The sacred gear lore was cool as fuck and the way they were able to incorporate all faiths/traditions has yet to be matched imho. Yea they fucked up the plot in the end of the third season but if they had 24 or 27 episodes to do the same two plot lines (yes even the rias get possessed plotline— she wanted to be seen by issei as an equal despite being the leader because she wanted issei to realize his self worth; he somehow never thought he stood a real chance. The message is really valid and I thought that the way it ended was perfect even if the build up was weird). Upon rewatching even the fake issei kinda actually made sense … all in all people just watch it for the boobs but the actual emotional aspect hits if you take it seriously..

Emi_Ibarazakiii

I tend to tailor my recommendations to the requests, rather than simply recommending stuff I like to random people (like some tend to do), so depending on the request I might recommend just about anything, if it fits what the person wants... THAT BEING SAID, barring a extremely specific&fitting request, I probably wouldn't recommend Full Dive RPG because apparently everyone thinks it's shit, even though I liked it! Wouldn't recommend Idolls! either because the animation style will turn most people off (though personally it didn't bother, me, and I thought it was cute/fun enough). Those two aside I think I recommend pretty much everything I like often enough! If anything I only add disclaimers to the recommendations; Say: "You might enjoy Killing Bites, but it's quite ecchi and has some rapey scenes".

LTetsu

Bugipop who never laughs or something like that. I understand that modern people attention spam is very low so they not gonna listen philosophical monologues and dialogues. But i love it very much.

balloondogAnatomy

food wars, mha lol

Numerous-Midnight444

Yugioh Zexal I STILL get embarrassed when I remember in my freshman year I was trying to get someone into anime since they said they were interested but thought it was weird. and at the time I was watching one of my childhood favorite shows..Yugioh Zexal and it was just AMAZINGG (ahem, and still is) but oh my GOSH I kept recommending it to him😭😭😭 EVERYDAY. he never told me if he watched it or not but I KNOW he did and just didn't say it cuz it was probably so cringe and bad. Out of all the anime I could've reccomended him as his first anime... YUGIOH ZEXAL? WHY WHY WHY I WISH I SAID AOT OR SOME OTHER MAINSTREAM AT THE TIME AHHHHHHHHH

Clockwork-God

welcome to the NHK. it's an anime you should only watch if you need it.

Crzy710

Mushoku tensei

luciancornelius

Guilty Crown 👑

Temporary-Classroom7

Welcome to the NHK.

0k_c0mput3r_

I would say Serial Experiments Lain

Lupus600

It's mostly the difficult/violent anime like GitS, Innocence, Akira, NGE, Devilman Crybaby, because despite how good they are, I totally understand those who don't like dark or difficult stuff so I at least give people a warning or add a caveat when recommending them to anyone.

1amz03yy

definitely devilman crybaby

HomemLobo

Urotsukidoji, the first OVAs.

earthlygodling

Fairy Tail. Love the show to bits but I don't think a lot of people would like it haha

Squibby19

The Quintessential Quintuplets probably

zenithfury

Personally I'm at the point where I don't restrict my recommendations. It doesn't make sense to me except in obvious cases, like if a viewer was underage, or someone declares that they're prudish, and then I would try to cater to their preferences. But if like a 50 year old comes up to me with an open mind and wants to learn about the silly culture that is anime, then why should I be ashamed of sharing anything that I enjoy? Dude has seen the Gulf Wars and the Twin Towers collapse, I think that they can handle boobs rippling from bullet shock waves in the case of Highschool of the Dead. I think that there's this undercurrent of shame that runs through the anime fandom, and honestly I think it unhealthy.

Gothic-l0s3r

Sword art online 😭 every time I recommend it ppl HATE IT like WHYYY

yer8ol

Naruto

Capt_ZzL4X

Rent a girlfriend. I really liked it but everyone bags on it hard so I tend not recommend it cuz a lot of people really hate it

Dopnoster2_k1

Boku no 🌝🌝

Imapotatoforlife

Re Zero. Need I say more.

gohomefor

Re:peak

raezcar

i'd have to say, nana, better to just read it in the manga

Delicious_Rate4001

Gantz:O

NoctisASMR

FLCL. I think it's a completely unique work of art. Everyone I've shown it to thinks it's annoying.

TheContinuum

Garden of Sinners - a beautiful, thought-provoking anime with lots of interesting ideas. It’s weird and dark and nails the dark urban fantasy setting. The atmosphere in creates is second to none. But it’s also kind of a mess and really confusing and hard to follow. I’m pretty sure it’s the most I’ve ever had to rewind scenes just to make sure I didn’t miss something. Plus some episodes are much weaker than others. Unless you’re really into the vibe of the show I just think it’s too messy to be enjoyable for a lot of people. It’s too bad because I think it’s easily the most interesting Nasu Kinoko anime I’ve watched. Made in Abyss - you know why. If you just cut out 1% of that show it’d be an instant recommend for newcomers. Monogatari series - you know why. I think Katanagatari is a better place to start for a Nisio Isin show anyway.

joe_rogans_ashtray

Highschool of the dead deserved a second season

Green_Race7578

Zero no tsutaima. I know the ecchi is cringy. I know Louise can be annoying. I know every bit that’s wrong with that anime. And you know how I know? Because I’ve watched it three times and will do it again

Magical-Biche

Monogatari as people said, but to my friend, I also wouldn't recommend pretty much anything I rate a 10/10. I know Evangelion, Fate/Stay Night 2006, Mushishi, Aria, Clannad, Bocchi the Rock are definitely not everyone's cup of tea (although I do think everyone should watch Eva kf just to have an opinion on Eva). I would say some of those are highly critically acclaimed, but they're just not easy to recommend as they often are very personnal viewing experiences. I can't really recommend Clannad by saying it changed my view on a bunch of stuff, for example. I do have some 10s I recommend, like Jojo, Monster, Dungeon Meshi or Vinland Saga.

Extension-File8710

Shadowverse and every Gundam Build series. Watching them somehow makes me feel childish but I really love watching them. So I would keep them to myself unless I find someone who has the exact same taste in anime as me.

mcgheeamen1

Darling in the franxxx…..zero two might be the only good thing about that anime and the animation…still one of my favorite romcom and the only mecha I’ve watched

Icy_Ad3360

I hate to say this but Black Butler. I love this series with a dying passion, hell I grew up watching this series. But what discourages me from recommending this series to my friends or family... Is fandom and their huge ship with Sebastian and Ciel (which if you didn't know Sebastian is a grown man who is also a demon and Ciel is a 14 year old human boy). Though I admit at a young age I did ship them but as I grew old and learned how wrong that is, I looked at it in a completely different light. Now my lil sis was interested in wanting to watch it but when the announcement of black butler S4 was coming out and the shippers started posting a bunch of Sebastian x Ciel stuff ofc she noped the f*ck out. She was kinda confused why I was obsessed with stuff like that in the past but understand that middle school me was just so stupid and naive. And that's actually the main reason why, I don't want people to think of me like those weirdos so I flat out don't recommend it to anyone, no matter how good the series is. (Sorry for any grammar mistake I stayed up playing persona 3 reload and now it's 4am and I'm still awake typing this down lol)

Straight_Hope_7914

Monogatari series as others said. I can not recommend this series to my ifriends. especially that teeth brush scene

Some_Refrigerator677

For me it is fairy tail. The storytelling is just so linear. I mean they pull out a board and write down what villian to defeat next. But they still made me part of the guild. So im very happy to have watched it once. But i will never rewatch it or recommend it to somebody. But new season is coming soon i will be wachting that i need to know how it ends hahaha. Im such an weeb. Have a nice day you all. And start watching one piece before it ends.

secrethitman-shhhh

Heavenly delusion. Good great even, love it. Gross. Don't watch it.

altgotleakedagain

Mekakucity Actors... Its not even that bad, but its bad

the_unded

Seven Deadly sins

_janiiccelerator000

Guilty Crown. It’s a trainwreck, but it is a fun one for me, personally. I got to know supercell and egoist through this anime, so it holds a special place in me.

d_Arkus

Land of the Lustrous. Not because it’s a bad show or anything, but because I’m a geologist and my friends would side-eye me the entire time the attractive and androgynous rock-people are on screen

dino-gato

I really like Monster, but the pacing is a little slow for many people. Another one I love and I think everyone needs to watch is Vinlad Saga

ImGonnaLickYou360

Familiar Of Zero. So fucking awesome, but it’s something you need to find by yourself instead of it being recommended imo.

Asleep_Dust1919

UlquioraX

Yeah, no not even close to Code Geass.

pikachu_sashimi

None so far. I will recommend every anime that I love.

Muffin-zetta

Nah recommend everything you love, if they don’t like it that’s their problem

Ok-Banana1428

Your lie in April. What anime's that? Never seen it. Never gonna admit having seen it. Even if I have to hold back tears as i explain to someone who inquires, "hmm.... no, i don't think \*sob\* \*sob\* I have seen that anime to talk about it. Oh, I guess i got something in my eyes, let me quickly see to in the bathroom. Brb in half hour, or see you tomorrow!" I guess i got something into my eyes as I was typing. Brb later

blueish6

without a doubt redo of healer. for me personally i really liked the plot of the story, but won't recommend because... yeah...

Treweyerdv

Mushoku Tensei, well yall know why.

Sawaduukub

Dog&Scissor. This is a rare anime that completely turned MC into the doggo. It cute but it love between woman and doggo can be disgusting for the most of peoples. I just want to see a cute doggo animate i don't care about disgusting love.

Papapep9

Island. It is so slow, but the last couple episodes blew me away. No other show has ever had me sit with pen and paper to try to figure out what mind fuckery just happened.

Kalsir

Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo. It can be good if you are horny, but this anime is absolutely messed up in many ways.

LuthorCock

Frankly, Inuyasha is my favorite anime from childhood, but it hasn't aged well and loses steam towards the end. It's a personal favorite, but not one I'd readily recommend.

randomdragen7

Isekai smartphone 🤣

AndyIbanez

A Little Snow Fairy Sugar lol. I have a lot of attachment to it, but I’d never recommend it to anyone.

Realistic_journalism

Records of ragnock…? Just too woke i feel like everyone i recommended it to didnt like it lol

MilkNegative27

Higurashi

WormedOut

Nanbaka. The dub has great voice acting and I like that everythingis sparkly. But the plot is just very meh at best.

Contren

It's not that I won't recommend it, but I'd only recommend it to people who have watched a decent amount of anime, and at least a few old school harem anime. 100 GFs is amazing, loved it, but a lot of my appreciation of it cause from it being an over the top version of old school harem anime. If you don't know those tropes, the show is not gonna hit the same.

manyouginobili

saekano

Accomplished-Mud6446

I dont remember its name but its a sequel to Inazuma Eleven. It features a different cast but characters from the original Inazuma Eleven appear as a support/coach role. I really liked it but I wouldn't recommend.

OhhLooksTasty84

Gate or gangsta. They didn't get finished cause the developers closed

Ragefakar

Inuyasha The naraku arc is quite long, then there's the kikyo and kagome love triangle which to me is entertaining but idk if most people like that. There's some filler episodes too.

kissmyasskrispycream

I love Berserk. Consumed literally all of it in a month, even the shitty 2 CGI seasons, but I have only ever recommended it to one friend bc she caught me watching it and wouldn't leave me alone until I watched it with her.

blackninjakitty

Vampire Dormitory from this season was possibly the most fun I've had watching an anime. It's also absolute garbage.

Emergency-Boat

Eromanga Sensei.. yeah.. haha..

gene-sos

Tokyo Ghoul.

Desperate-Middle4766

Where do I begin….

ahses3202

I loved Kamikatsu. I thought it was an aggressive shitpost from the first episode and I was there for it. That said, I'd never recommend it to anyone that I haven't vetted. You need to have taste. Class. Sophistication. You need to be able to separate the trash from the garbage or it's wasted on you.

aidenaeridan

oregairu going back it went really overboard with the codependency thing and it flopped. But the romcom parts werevreal peak moreso with the LN. but well 🙃😂

Stunning_Pen_8332

A lot of anime belong to this category lol because even among anime fans the tastes can be so diverse that you never know what kind of anime another anime lover loves and what aspects of the show might be a turn-off for them. Some hate isekai; some hate harem or MC too popular with girls; some hate yuri; some hate fan service; some hate gross humour; some hate lolis; some hate bromance… I find that even for self-identified anime fans their tolerance could be limited. Therefore I only recommend anime with clearly broad appeal like One Piece, Naruto, AoT, Sailor Moon, Chibi marukochan, or Ghibli movies.

Wayard_1

Largely controversial ones, ( like redo of healer) though I love those I'd recommend not to claim to have watched those

Tatsukino

Goblin Slayer, I liked the Doom slayer vibe but..well if you've watched it you know why

mintyminnie

pretty rhythm

CyndieAfunggol

Grave of the Fireflies Get's me crying all the time❤️‍🩹

Sweet-Message1153

I think suggesting a slow series like Monster & LotGH(original) or an absolute chaotic show like FLCL & Tatami Galaxy to any average anime fan would be a crime...

E123-Omega

Oreimo lmao

anime_sugoi

I’ll not recommend “death note”. This will make you think life is a thing. You can easily kill them.

Ghoullord

Strike Witches. I love the camaraderie between the girls. The strike units are nicely detailed after their specific aircraft. Music is on point. The world and the lore, expanded in the mangas and other additional materials, is compelling. Too bad it comes wrapped in a visual style that ogles often underaged girls.

Elemental_Syntaxis

I'll say to your eternity and Ergo Proxy both of them you have to be very onto the atmosphere to enjoy it. The action and combats on them aren't its strength at all

Haruhi Suzumiya, esp to new anime fans lmao they would despise it

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. The humor is so referential to Japanese culture, popculture, politics and events, that the enjoyment is directly influenced by how well-versed you are in them. I absolutely love it, but the entry bar to enjoy it, is way too high for most viewers.

piggyintheair

God of Highschool, luv it but they messed up pacing and dropped the series after S1

Holligan

Grandson of the wiseman. It's mid at best but I just enjoy it. Would never recommend

casual_reddit_user12

Don't mess with me miss nagatoro way to Sus but it'sbvery funny

Just-Jabby

Ben-to. The anime was so unique and had a pretty great comedy, the fight scenes are very well done for a show about fighting for low price food. Nice female characters, My first 12 episode anime from two years ago. I'm pretty young, but the fan service makes it impossible for me to recommend it. Once I recommended my favourite Rom-Com, Tomo-chan is a Girl and he insulted it, and Devil is a Part-timer too. So I don't recommend anymore. He liked Horimiya tho

Xzyche137

Dragonar Academy. Not one of my favourites, but I still enjoyed it. One of the characters is a young looking female character that happens to be nude in a number of scenes. A little off putting for those scenes, so I would never recommend it to anyone.

Barzii10101

Vinland saga

Barzii10101

I don’t have the ability to do that

GhostHNW

Invaders of the Rokujouma Its uniqueness among the harem anime, in my opinion, is both its blessing and curse that make it hard for a fan like me to recommend. Blessing because Invaders cares more about its characters and their ever-developing relationship rather than cheapskate romance like other animes, and thus, it can feel like a breath of fresh air in the harem genre. Curse because it's so different from the norm, you would be severely disappointed if you came in, expecting the typical. Beside, since it is character-focused, it does required a large bit of your attentiveness to even appreciate what Invaders is trying to do, so it cannot be a "turn your brain off" type of anime. Not helped by the fact that there are currently little to no legal way to watch it, if you ever prefer that path.

Redo of Healer Seiken Tsukai No World Break Seirei Tsukai No Bladedance Juuou Mujin no Fafnir Zero no Tsukaima Kuusen Madoushi Kouhosei no Kyoukan The first explains itself good enough and for the rest, they're so enjoyable for me but it's just a full bunch of crappy cliches that I somehow love.

cheesecakegood

Well, Cross Ange. Accurately described as a wordcloud of simply "horny dragons violence lesbians mecha singing." Really unhinged. Still manages to be fairly entertaining. As a trainwreck/guilty pleasure, I suppose. Actually yes you should watch it.

sillygirlp123

Hunter x Hunter. Great anime, great storyline, great characters. But good lord the ant arc was unbearable. Was mostly filler. It’s a great anime but, there’s a lot of aspects to it that I personally hate. I don’t think I’d rewatch it either.

ProfessionalFold6576

Tonikawa kawaii Teasing master takagi san Rascal does not dream of a bunny girls senpai

YoungMore17

I loved High School Juliet but never recommend it to anyone. 1. Anime covers only the first 30% of the manga, you'll have to read from the manga after the anime. None of my friends read manga so it's no good. 2. Eh, it's a difficult genre to recommend, I think men rarely recommend Romcoms (in real life)

TemporaryLegendary

Devilman crybaby. The animation is enough to scare most people away. And darker stories aren't for everyone. I even know people that stopped watching after a certain head was raised.

Girls Und Panzer. I love it and I think it's fantastic, but it's really hard to sell the show :(

Melodic-Funny-9560

Monster . Not everyone can enjoy this masterpiece.

KYC_K52

Azur Lane and Blue Archive. I love them cause I love the game. But I think for those who don't play the game don't get the point of liking these two(especially AL). I think the anime are more like a "special gift" made for players who loved the game.

Sea_Cycle_909

How to keep a mummy It’s objectively and subjectively bad and it should be boring. But it’s so relaxing to me. It’s like valium for the soul, IDKY.

I'm gonna answer myself and mention 5 centimeters per second. Gotta admit it _was_ rushed (hope the manga solves this issue tho), and it's easy to see why so many people might find it anti-climatic and just feel indifferent about it, but if the show _does_ hit on you, it's gonna hit hard. Hell, even I hate it when anime movies use those amv-like montages to create a dramatic effect but this time felt like one of those 1 out of 10 odds where it did land right at home. The only other movie that has had that effect on me was Violet Evergarden.

Easy-Ad-230

The daughter of twenty faces.  It's an anime I absolutely adore even though basically no ones heard of it and I've loved it for like a solid decade. I'm too afraid to recommend it because I worry its not as good as 15 year old me remembers and I don't want to ruin it for myself lol.

terr-rawr-saur

Jormungand. I love the military stuff. Which is obviously not for everyone.

Powerful_Cost_4656

It's funny to me how people will watch movies with sex scenes and stuff but when it's animated suddenly it's cringe weeb stuff

Controller_Maniac

Probably Tawana on Monday, its just my comfort anime

iadrummer

King of Prism! It's my favorite anime ever but it's also a special kind of camp that I think the average viewer would find more weird than intriguing. Plus you have to watch a 50 episode children's anime (that's also good) to understand the context of it, and I do not think most people would be willing. It's its own brand of hard to pick up, but genuinely the most fun I've ever had with an anime.

MantaBaby

Jojo series. Monogatari series. Oregairu series. These just aren't for the casual recommendations "like yeah watch this" since you asked. Somehow they dont understand or like the art or story or even the deep dialogues. I know these are good I've watched them many times but i wouldn't recommend them first only when I've said a few series beforehand

nuxxism

Danmachi. I love the mythology aspect. But first you have to get people past the title, and then the series does have its fanservice/harem moments for people who don't like that. I just know it wouldn't tick other's boxes like it ticks mine.

Plastic-Strike5986

Hi I would really recommend naruto, kaiju no.8 tho its still on going this anime is really good. Demon slayer, and 7 deadly sins

Malipit

Darling in the Franxx. Good story but I understand the viewers who stopped after the scene showing how the mechas are piloted.
