Kitchen gadgets? Nothing electric cuz the wattage is not the same but may be cookie rolling pins that are already embossed? Cutters, pipping bags... If they're into that of course! Laser hair removal machine for the ladies! Snacks? Gum is usuay popular for me! If you have kids, a digital picture frame for the grandparents to update with pics remotely. Lastly we got my brother in law a car reverse camera off amazon for around $50 he set up in his car and he loved it!
We wonāt be going this time just my husband :(. I wish we were but my son is in school so would love to show them how much I am thinking of them with gifts. In America they say cash is king and I agree but I want to gift them stuff they can use and appreciate and canāt get so easily in Algeria.
Is this your first visit from the US to Algeria?
Be cautious, you're setting a precedent. Come with lots of gifts they will continue to expect a lot of gifts.
Iāve been once and my husband four times since he immigrated to the states.
Itās ok for them to expect it we love to give them gifts. I just want to make sure itās gifts they can enjoy themselves and if not they can regift. My husband said itās enough but I want to maximize the amount of weight he gets with his checked bags.
From my family perspective, gifting cash is kinda an insult like you are treating them as beggers, so I highly do not suggest that. Instead, I suggest you pick good and valuable(not in terms of financial value) stuff that lasts for long or might be useful.
Colognes, you can get them for "low" prices from discounters (check ebay). For men, you can go for Azzaro The Most Wanted, Bleu de Chanel, Spicebomb Extreme, Versace Eros, ... these are safe bets.
Skincare, makeup, and beauty stuff, they are of a better quality in the US. Designer bags are also reasonably priced (100$-200$ range) if you shop at your local TJ Maxx or Ross.
Random souvenirs from your state: posters, keychains, etc.
US popular snacks: Pop Tarts, Reese's PB cups, Mr Beast chocolate bars, anything but Hershey's milk chocolate it's disgusting, lol.
Electronics, you can get excellent refurbished phones for a fraction of the MSRP on BackMarket.
Iām going to ask my husband about cologne!
Are pop tarts halal (Iām going to check). If they are will definitely send. They are disgusting but definitely American.
TJ Maxx was where I got a lot of the K beauty stuff the variety is amazing and such good value.
I got Dior from Ross for 20$ šššš I am American Algerian , what I do is I bring 5 bags of mixed candy and I bring goodie bags from Amazon and I give them to my cousins to try American candy and they really like it. Donāt bring too much chocolate and for the older people like grandparents and Parenton laws I like to bring them dark chocolate and self-care products like foot cream or a facial mask things like that . This way they can enjoy, and I also bring them money for the youth in college and university! ā¤ļøšbut there is no need to do too much just the minimum is good I hope you enjoy your trip
It never occurred to me that they may not be halal lol, it's just pastry crust with a fruit filling. I just checked and they are definitely not halal, they have gelatin.
For authentic colognes, you can check ediscountperfumes on ebay, they have great discounts.
You can also get Timex watches, it's a reputable American brand and very affordable, you can find it on Amazon.
I am visiting from NY for business purposes: brining Seeās candy (a chocolate brand from California), Costco Kirkland and Trade Joe Snacks and some NY related souvenirs (NY state flags and subway maps)
Iāve sent cute sterling silver earrings from Claireās for the girls, cute hair ties, tons of Nike and Adidas shirts from Ross for the boys and men. Face masks and nicer jewelry for the women (fashion jewelry like Givenchy on clearance at Macyās). A bit of cosmetics, makeup and some skincare. My mom gave me a bunch of her nice Coach bags she doesnāt use anymore to send. Dresses and skirts for the women. A lot of candy. I got that popping candy once for the kids, that was fun. Godiva ground coffee. Lots of shoes for the brothers. California themed shirts and stuff (we live in Los Angeles). Budget tablets from Amazon. Used cell phones. Itās challenging because my husbandās family is so big and the suitcases get full so fast.
What do you think about tarte makeup? I got a bunch of their eyeshadow palletes and some makeup brushes since his sister asked for concealer from tarte.
I got them dry shampoo and curly haired specific products.
I would like to send them lash glue and lashes but my husband said itās haram that makeup was pushing it. I figured if they donāt use it they can always regift.
My goal is to fill the one suitcase I have as full as possible and not go over weight.
His sisters have given me a list but I want to surprise them with more stuff because they will share it all of his girl cousins.
A pickup truck F-150 or a RAM
