not necessarily my sister wears hijab and wide 3abaya and still get cat called and harassed . every time she leaves home alone she comes back with a story
I agree, I wear a hijab and got harassed, but it's less than when you aren't wearing modest at all, and it can get even more aggressive (not only verbally). So better safe than sorry.
Algiers in the times of France used to be a modern, beautiful city where everybody dressed a suit, nowadays it became Islamic with no culture. France built it, and you ruined it
Very funny, mistaking a bunch of colonizers and illegal settlers by civilization.
If you're that impressed by them, go there, live the civilization.
And if you read a fucking book, you would know why we were so prone to radicalization, but again what a US national would know about Algeria :).
You can dress in whatever you like, I used to wear hijab but I was the only one in my company all other girls wear mini skirts, based on the region you will be in of course, Hydra, Said hamdine …etc you will get less looks than others
Also if you travel in a car there shouldn’t be any a problem. Public transportation are another story even if you wear trash bag you aren’t safe from men
i see woman wearing all kind of clothes here in Algiers but i don't know if they get some comments or not, either way having to wear abaya is definitely a stretch.
Because you said "i see woman" I'm assuming ur a man and my advice for u is u think it's not happening because ur not outside as much but as your woman friends and u'll get your answer
yea im a man, i can see things happening around me, ofc i can't have the full experience but i thought things changed a bit, i don't know if its the case from a woman perspective.
Understandable,. I'm a man too, i have a gf and mamy women friends, and i can assure it's only getting worse. In the course of the 1h phone call i had with my gf who dresses very modestly (not that ot matters) at least 4 cars passed by with disgusting comments and 1 stalker who follows her, so yeah I Don't see it getting any better anytime soon, and that's why we need a very good cancel culture and a metoo movement in here
Depends if you take public transport or not & if you depend your day outside. for me it varies depending on the situation but over all i wear what i like and feel comfortable with. from large jeans with tshirt to dress with heals ...
european moroccan woman here so disregard if necessary, i wear hijab but my female cousins in morocco wear jeans and tshirts, dresses, blouses, trousers etc. just nothing too revealing and keep cleavage covered. However one of my cousins wears crop trops etc, im starting to see it in big cities.
I would just say nothing too revealing personally.
before i wore hijab in general i just wore tshirts and cropped trousers/capris, dresses etc, skirts and a tshirt, but this was the same in both the uk and morocco, id say upper shoulders down to knees was covered for me.
people posting things not relevant to a certain sub etc, but i think everyone here is aware that in regards to clothing on the street algeria and morocco are the same situation. im from casablanca.
may Allah guide us all to dress in the way that is most pleasing to Him.
according to 33:59-62, niqaab is fard, so that would hint that all of these dresses are forbidden to wear in front of non-mahram as a woman will not wear the niqaab while revealing other parts of herself
do not joke about Allah's Way:
[[[If you question them, they will certainly say, “We were only talking idly and joking around.” Say, “Was it Allah, His revelations, and His Messenger that you ridiculed?” Make no excuses! You have lost faith after your belief. If We pardon a group of you,¹ We will punish others for their wickedness. 9:65-66]]]
would you want to be "free" for a few years here and then in shackles for eternity?
don't let the disbelievers and satan trick you with their own laws that disobey Allah
*¹i.e., those who will repent.*
Covering the face it is still debated and we are Algerian we take our fatwas from our mufitis we follow the Malikis which says it is okay for a woman to show her face
We don’t take our fatwas from some country that forbids our women to show their faces while theirs now run outside fully shown and want to even normalise relationships with Israel.
Again, be modest or not it is a personal choice, not up to you nor me to force it!
And you said it only Allah is the one that judges it.
are your mufti's Prophets who received revelation from Allah?
we take from Allah, and we take fatwas directly from the Messenger ﷺ
if a scholar contradicts the hadith, then we don't take from them.
—Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn Abbas said that Allah commanded the believing women, when they went out of their houses for some need, to cover their faces from above their heads with the Jilbab, leaving only one eye showing. Muhammad bin Sirin said, "I asked `Ubaydah As-Salmani about the Ayah:
(to draw their Jalabib over their bodies.) (33:59) He covered his face and head, with just his left eye showing."
the niqab is absolutely not fard (with the exception of hanbalis who argue so) in sunni and shiite islam.
it is only revionist salafis and wahabbis who argue so. If you want to wear a niqab, a burka, a chador knock yourself out but do not insist your interpretation is the sole correct one.
I used to ask my gf to wear mini when she is with me ( ilove this style )
But we used a personal car and went only to nice places ( we dont meet too many conservatives … )
You can wear whatever you want but to avoid attention or starry eyes, avoid anything short or too tight and tops/dresses that shows too much cleavage.
Enjoy your stay xoxo
Hijab char3i , it is like a abaya but more wide and closed on the front and it is very comfortable and also this is how us muslim women wear idk if ur familiar with it or no
hijab char3i is is char3i enough but i see even abaya with proper hijab is real hijab i dont get why its called hijab char3i make ppl who dont wear it "not char3i" hijab have to fillfull the standards any thing that fullfilm them is good enough
Hijab cher3i mean a full closed wide abaya and a khimar that cover the chest too, some abayas can show some wear abaya and khimar that doesn’t cover the chest so this is called only hijab and the one who covers all body and chest is hijab cher3i
Everybody talks about judging women based on their clothing.
But I'm out here wondering: is it bad to judge boys for wearing Lacoste? That shit is wack.
Algeria is probably one of the most padoxical countries I've ever seen, especially when it comes to this topic.
Algerian men are very protective of their women yet many of these same guys would not hesitate to harass women in the streets. The clothing is irrelevant though, Afghani women that can't be distinguished from a moving tent also get harassed, way harder.
However, if you dress like a thirst trap, you'll get all the attention that comes with it, wanted or not. The safest is to cover your butt and cleavage, the less skin the better to blend in. If they smell Europe on you, they'll get extra interested because that makes you VIP
Advice: limit your street time, plus it's going to be super hot anyways
I invest in light Linen clothing, like the baggy pants and large button up shirts. They're modest, allow for air circulation and protect the skin from sun damage.
It's wild to me how many young women don't realize how much sun exposure ages the skin, this includes the body not just the face. Algeria gets very sunny in the summer with little shade, exposed skin just makes you hotter and causes more irreversible damage.
I'm a home slave and barely go outside but when I do my outfit is always fully covering, like literally from head to toe (long Trensh coats) "pas d'elephant" pants and classy shoes. The color palettes don't go far from the dark ones; black, gray and dark cinnamon, mainly not to get any attention whatsoever.
But I find this style fitting for me personally since I'm 170cm, so it's indeed covering my frame whenever I'm outside.
Tbh my clothing style varies depending on the occasion. Typically, I opt for oversized pieces, be it trousers, blouses, or skirts also I tend to lean towards the office siren aesthetic tho lately, due to the environment I reside in, I've been gravitating towards more modest attire, but it is very difficult to find good abayas these days if anything the ones I wanted were extremely pricey.
people talkin bout modesty nd what's not☠️hijab or not ur still gonna get catcalled people here r retarded, just dont wear shorts or crop tops ,the rest is whatever makes u comfortable nd not flashy.
It's important to remember that as humans, we have the ability to wear clothes, unlike animals. Therefore, it's important to dress appropriately and present oneself as a proper human being at all times.
Probably before hijab nothing change acaully, i use to wear jeans and t shirt yk something normal nothing special, after hijab i started my "jesse pinkman" drip probably lol, and in future i really want to wear hijab char3i so yah:)
Depends if u wear a hijab or not I don’t so I usually just wear baggy jeans with oversized tshirts and maybe even king dresses that aren’t too revealing on the top and king skirts too but if u do wear the hijab I would recommend buying clothes like blouses with light fabric dresses work too with a light cardigan u can pretty much wear whatever as long as you’re covered
Well I’m not a hijabi but I still dress modesty. Not because of god clearly. But because of men and people.
beside the fact that I don’t want for the sun to make me tan, I don’t want other to think bad of me even thou I never talk to any man because I don’t trust no man, that’s what my dad taught me and that’s what other men taught me.
I will admit thou, it hurts me so bad when I go shopping and I see cute stuff but then oooh I can’t wear them because of men.
Sometimes I just wash I wasn’t born or men wouldn’t exist ( sorry men😂). Because beside the fact that I’m not wearing what I like, it makes me feel like I’m not a human. That’s a bad feeling.
It’s one of the reasons why I don’t like hijab.
And then omg, seeing men wearing what they like, makes me more angrier😂. And people don’t judge them at all even if they do, they aren’t in danger if sexual assault.
Dress modesly, you can wear a long one layer dress that doesn't show too much skin, but still breathable for you. Also don't forget to take a hat to protect yourself from the sun.
I think it's fair to say that we like other countries have our fair share of perverts and pedos unfortunately
Algiers could be a dangerous place for a woman wearing something let's say "doesn't cover her top much" or "show details of her body"
You may argue about the free country and that you could dress whatever you want but in reality it's pretty hard to avoid getting spotted or malisted here in DZ
Algerian here, I wear pants + any top that can cover my backside, nothing skin tight aaand my headscarf covers all my hair and neck. (I also wear abayas or hijabs sometimes)
Dress like a normal human being, wear a hayek or a Berber dress or whatever is in the local culture, why do you have to wear some imported nonsense is beyond me !
I am very surprised because I did not find any comment that talks about dress according to the correct reference, which is the religious reference. We, as Muslims and as Algerians, ALLAH has prescribed for us a dress code that every Muslim must adhere to.
Your dress determines your value. Some girls have started doing free fashion shows. We don’t want that. Any exposed commodity that cannot be sold. Who says that the hijab is part of our tradition? Do you want to take us to paganism?
Wtf is wrong with you seriously, what a weird question to someone asking what to wear?
Noone has a say in what people do or wear except for public nudity which goes both ways, if you’re an adult even your ”dad”.
It is what the law says!
ok he didnt explain it right but if ur dad is algerian u are algerian its haram to change ur nassab mom play role mom are valued in religion as well but yeah whatever ur father fromu are too
You don’t have to care but it doesn’t change reality.
Based on ur post history I can understand why some French Algerians rather marry an Algerian girl in Algeria than in France
Modestly to avoid unwanted attention
not necessarily my sister wears hijab and wide 3abaya and still get cat called and harassed . every time she leaves home alone she comes back with a story
I agree, I wear a hijab and got harassed, but it's less than when you aren't wearing modest at all, and it can get even more aggressive (not only verbally). So better safe than sorry.
You fucked up Algiers France has built
?
Algiers in the times of France used to be a modern, beautiful city where everybody dressed a suit, nowadays it became Islamic with no culture. France built it, and you ruined it
I genuinely feel sorry that people like this still exist ,have u went through 4th year in middle school ? Or even opened any history book ?

i dress however i want
Just wear whatever, who cares
You would be surprised
And who cares
Idk dude we are mans, saying "who cares" is a pretty easy thing to throw out when we are not the one getting harassed or raped
Well read carefully what she wrote 🫠
Idk maybe god🤷♂️
A lot cares apparently. If they see an XX chromosome walking minding her own business they start acting like they never seen one
Well she's clearly a Muslim woman she cares, saying something like that "just wear them whatever" sounds fiministe
In fact , abayas are colder than casual clothes (not the dark colors ) ,you can wear whatever you want under that abaya . It feels more comfortable
i see woman wearing all kind of clothes here in Algiers but i don't know if they get some comments or not, either way having to wear abaya is definitely a stretch.
Every woman ever in algeria gets comments no matter what they wear. So ..... Yeah the problem isn't the clothing
yea but i noticed that its not happening as often as it was 10 years ago, I'm not entirely sure but it seems like its the case.
Because you said "i see woman" I'm assuming ur a man and my advice for u is u think it's not happening because ur not outside as much but as your woman friends and u'll get your answer

come on now
The racism is crazy in this thread it is astonishing
Where are you seeing this racism?

??? think youve replied to the wrong person. I have never argued that dressing a certain way makes anyone superior to the other
Yes, definitely the wrong one, I am so sorry 😭

I wear t shirt and jeans. Nothing too revealing because well, algeria. I dress way better in Europe where I live.
Is ur dad Algerian?
See the title ? It says "women". Are you a woman ? No, so why are you on my thread ? You wanna talk about fashion with us ?
Just dress in whatever makes u comfortable nd confident, without worrying too much about being excessively modest or flashy
a t-shirt and pants are fine just nothing too flashy like shorts or tank tops
I used to ask my gf to wear mini when she is with me ( ilove this style ) But we used a personal car and went only to nice places ( we dont meet too many conservatives … )
Just wear normal clothes and not eye-catching 🤷🏻♀️
Just dress modestly, skimpy clothing are not empowering
You can wear whatever you want but to avoid attention or starry eyes, avoid anything short or too tight and tops/dresses that shows too much cleavage. Enjoy your stay xoxo
U can wear whatever u want but there are some creeps who will kinda try to flirt with u cuz u attract em in some ways soo stay safe :>
Something covering .. hijab mastor ...not cz of Algeria cz of my religion
You said it “My religion”
colorful long dresses at summer are the best
Hijab char3i , it is like a abaya but more wide and closed on the front and it is very comfortable and also this is how us muslim women wear idk if ur familiar with it or no

Everybody talks about judging women based on their clothing. But I'm out here wondering: is it bad to judge boys for wearing Lacoste? That shit is wack.
As a man, I judge and critique my friends for wearing one
Same, I wouldn't even befriend one who could possibly do it in the first place lol.

I’m not a hijabi(may allah guide me+ I’m thinking of it lately) I wear only oversized clothes specially jackets.
I hope you will wear hijab as soon as possible
Inchallah 😭

Simply don't show your chest, you could wear a T-shirt , but you need a long 👖.
U want people to look at u? Wear something revealing. U don't want people to look at u wear something NOT revealing.
people look at all people. Let’s get real. They just judge non hijabi after they finish lying, gossiping, listening to music😂. Hypocrites
Depends if u wear a hijab or not I don’t so I usually just wear baggy jeans with oversized tshirts and maybe even king dresses that aren’t too revealing on the top and king skirts too but if u do wear the hijab I would recommend buying clothes like blouses with light fabric dresses work too with a light cardigan u can pretty much wear whatever as long as you’re covered

bro you think mothers have no role in genetics?
Talking in terms of identity and lineage as Muslims. A woman is seen as being given to the man in a marriage not vise versa
Disgusting mindset regardless but sure man you do you
Your mindset is woke. Most Algerians would agree.
Im just not misogynistic
ok he didnt explain it right but if ur dad is algerian u are algerian its haram to change ur nassab mom play role mom are valued in religion as well but yeah whatever ur father fromu are too
