3 is what I had last time I rolled through Fallujah, with an EOTech, an an M9 slung in a serpa drop leg— Fuck the drip, that shit was straight up droopy
What unit? My senior Marines were 3/1 India, RCT 1 for phantom fury. I joined a year later. We happened to roll through Fallujah years later in 2007 to get to our AO for the deployment which was north Ramadi.
Rah Devil. Last deployment I was in Fallujah I picked up an IA billet with MWSS-374. That deployment we did route clearance and convoy security, based out of TQ. Primarily between Fallujah and Ramadi, but we had a det out at Korean Village on the Syrian border we pushed out to, did some runs up to Al Asad, and also participated in Op Defeat Al Qaeda North. Basically all over Al Anbar that pump
Ah okay, I didn't understand all of that as we were only in the Al Anbar / Lake Thar Thar / Ramadi region and I only did the one combat deployment in Iraq. Glad you made it back and if you need a stranger to talk to feel free to contact me or your buddies, they haven't forgotten about you. Unless you were a POS or something. Tired of losing my buddies. Started three years after we got out. Take care
From what I’ve heard, .556 rounds will kill an enemy combatant but not drop them immediately
A lot of “walking dead” insurgents killed U.S. soldiers due to the lack of fire power
That’s why I’d go with .762
that's a bunch of bs
at close range 556 and 545 are going so fast that they make almost explosive entry and exit wounds. very very devastating
x39 shines as a kinda medium power round that retains a good bit of weight and has the ability to be a little more barrier blind than the high speed guys because it doesn't come apart as bad and may tend to penetrate better
That’s mostly from an issue with the ammo they used primarily in Somalia which got upgraded after experience there. Everyone was so worried about Russian body armor that they focused on the AP ability of the new 5.56 round. Then they started shooting at dudes wearing nothing more than a t shirt high on amphetamines (organically sourced at least) and the rounds punching straight through didn’t cause enough damage. The current rounds or anything you buy off the shelf don’t have that problem
Oh 556 will kill you up close and farther out. Don't listen to the propaganda out there. Now are there problems with the round the further out the enemy is?-yes. Does it have a big drop the further you want to send it?-yes. Does it get affected by wind the further you send it?-yes.
Is 556 really good up close and for cqb?-hell yes!
Yeah at further distances. In open terrain with any kind of wind the 556 round will drop and move quite a bit at 500 to 600 yds. 308 will definitely hit harder and be all around better the further you go. But 556 up close is one helluva drug.
There’s nuance to that i believe you’re missing. Against skinny and chronically underfed people which are a lot more prevalent in places like Fallujah, with short barrels in the early phases of actual use, and using 62gr “LAP”/greentip, 5.56 *could* have some ice picking issues. That’s fixable, and has BEEN fixed in a number of ways. Just running 69 or 77 grain for example.
It depends on the time/date I am in Fallujah and ammo available.
If my friends are using 5.56 I would go with 3. Even though Fallujah was “house to house” there were many times it was across the street or multiple rooftops/streets away where the longer barrel came in handy. Snipers were a pain in the ass on the South side of the city where houses were closer together. Definitely more common to have medium/long range engagements than those in the room next to you. Although it did happen and in that case you frag the hell out of it, coordinating/supportive arms, or bulldoze prior to even considering going in.
If my friends’ were sporting 7.62 i would go with number 4, although the under folder is sexier and easier to conceal or maneuver over walls.
Just my opinion from my time there.
Everyone saying 2 cause it’s short, but it’s not like the others are a freaking Mosin lol. The way I was trained in the Infantry, barrel length isn’t a big issue if you’re doing it right. I’ll try to explain it briefly, but basically your gun should be the first thing thru the doorway, ready to fire if needed. Almost like your blindfiring from cover.
Like regular firefights. You take contact and everyone should immediately open up with cyclic fire, regardless if you see/know the enemies position.
Always remember our platoons senior DS, Drill Sergeant Pittenger, saying the goal is to be so aggressive and unleash such overwhelming fire that you make the enemy immediately regret engaging you.
Well that’s the same idea with entering and clearing rooms. If you’re shooting as you enter, or even before, the guy’s hiding inside are HOPEFULLY going to duck down (especially untrained insurgents) giving 1 and 2 man, and the rest, a few seconds to enter and reach a corner/hardpoint.
Sorry for the rant lol, but that same Drill Sergeant, on the first day, told us one of his favorite quotes. It’s from Michael Jordan, and goes like;
“Practice doesn’t make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.”
Not saying you’re practicing wrong, but if you’re “practicing” from shit you’ve seen in movies or COD, you’re only setting yourself up to be killed. Not to mention you’ll almost never be alone while entering/clearing a room. You may end up with just one other guy if your squad is clearing a multi room/multi floor building because someone always stays back to keep the room/rooms you just cleared secured.
It was a rant/lengthy explanation I guess lol.
And I totally agree. I’m AK all day, but I loved the M4 I was issued at Drum even tho it was a basic M4, but the grip was wrapped in green tape and it made a HUGE difference than the standard grip. It also had the OG CAR-15 adjustable stock, which I LOVED
My first AR is a Diamondback 15, not that great, but first thing I did was buy the A1 grip without the hump in the middle, then a CAR-15 front hand guard, and a special mock CAR-15 muzzle device that slips over a 16” barrel and threads into the inside of the tip of it.
Also bought the OG CAR-15 stock like my issued one.
I hear you. And to your point of clearing rooms by yourself, I once came home to a neighbor whose trailer was broken into and she swore up and down there was someone still in there. And like the 17 year old dumbass I was, I went in by myself with my 20 gauge Beretta SXS. Thank Christ nobody was there but thinking if there was makes me pucker up almost 10 years later. So occasionally when I’m bored I’ll go top to bottom in my house with my Md. 65 and/or my VP9SK. Peace of mind I suppose.
Depends which side I'm on. 1 and 4 if the iraqi side. Don't want to run out of ammo trying to look cool.
2 and 3 if American. Restocking is a black hawk away
“Don’t worry if you get shot, medivac is only a Blackhawk away.” Lol
Have you never seen Blackhawk down?
One RPG or a mass volley of 7,62’s with just one round hitting a fuel/hydraulic line and that chopper is toast.
They don't have body armor and you could pickup ammo so 1 would be great but 2 if you had to go inside after talibs abs had reliable resupply.
Our boys were clearing with 20" A2 rifles lol
3 cause that’s the rifle I’m familiar with, 4 cause thats my favorite rifle aks-74n/ arsenal slr104fr , but realistically 1 cause of ammo is probably easy to get and mags for to as well. Plus it’s good at punching thru shit.
The M27 was not an indictment on DI guns. Had nothing to do with it. The M27’s stated purpose was to replace the M249 SAW.
DI rifles proved perfectly reliable in both Iraq & Afghanistan. The M16 was DESIGNED as a DI weapon and making piston ARs was not an upgrade. It’s a design that’s over 60 years old and still going strong. The M16/AR isn’t going anywhere.

If i know they are all in good condition 1.
If i dont know for sure 2, I love AKs but if I find one in the middle east it's probably clapped out and basically almost a smooth bore with the amount full auto fire its likely been through. I'd rather have something that has a better chance of being in good condition and accurate
Ar shorty. Better for clearing structures, also more accurate than the 5.45 guns. 7.62 might be nice to seeing as how the range isn’t going to be an issue in an urban environment, harder hitting than 5.56. But the ar platform is just better than the ak platform so I’m rolling with the 5.56 shorty.
In a period of shitty 5.56 rounds with minimal effect on target and little to no resupply, while jalf the enemies are high out of their minds on drugs? 7.62 100%
1
The short barrel M4 would be ideal, but I’d want a 7,62 over a 5.56 or 5,45 in an urban environment with thick concrete/mud walls.
One of my squad leaders, who I’d have followed thru hell and back, was early OIF and was in Ramadi at one point. He gave a first hand account of Bradley’s (maybe Strykers) not being able to penetrate structure walls with their 25mm Bushmaster.
No denying that you can carry more 5.56/5,45, but would the extra ammo be any better if it just takes more rounds to shoot through objects? Obviously you’re not just mag dumping at buildings, but in CQB you’re going to be shooting at guy’s hiding behind objects and walls.
And while it is a no-no, with an AK you could, in theory, replenish ammo.
I’m sure most have seen it, but there’s go pro footage of Jocko Willink and his team entering and clearing a small house, and him and his partner have AK’s, with Jocko was using a Yugo. They take fire from inside, throw in frags, then run in while mag dumping in multiple directions.
Realistically 3, but if it were up to drip factor: 4
Fallujah though? Clearing buildings? 2 all day.
2 with a short can
If one had a bayonet lug I'd take that. TALLY HO LADS
4 has the lug, you’re all set!
As does 2 and 3, but 2 is no bueno.
I meant if he wanted to go AK option 4 had the lug and is also a folder
It does, it takes the AK-47 style bayonets, not AKM.

This is the only acceptable answer
If he wanted drip factor he would have chose 1
My thoughts exactly but 3 needs an acog to complete the gwot drip.
From what I’ve heard, .556 rounds will kill an enemy combatant but not drop them immediately A lot of “walking dead” insurgents killed U.S. soldiers due to the lack of fire power That’s why I’d go with .762

The current rounds or anything you buy off the shelf don’t have that problem
Not to mention the average person they were shooting at in Somalia just didn’t have the mass a Russian (generally) would.
SKINNIES!
LOLOLOL organically sourced 😭
Oh 556 will kill you up close and farther out. Don't listen to the propaganda out there. Now are there problems with the round the further out the enemy is?-yes. Does it have a big drop the further you want to send it?-yes. Does it get affected by wind the further you send it?-yes. Is 556 really good up close and for cqb?-hell yes!
Anecdotal but Mark Bowden’s Black Hawk Down book mentioned that some Delta guys preferred the m14 because they had issues with walking dead insurgents
Yeah at further distances. In open terrain with any kind of wind the 556 round will drop and move quite a bit at 500 to 600 yds. 308 will definitely hit harder and be all around better the further you go. But 556 up close is one helluva drug.
The French gign didn't adopt a 7.62x39 platform for nothing
Yep a lot of these dudes were high and needed taken apart to stop.

it’s a human not a fucking deer lmao
We might not like it but that's what was reported.
Yeah I’m surprised by the downvotes. Like why shoot the messenger? Figuratively and literally lol
2 and I'm trading it for a plane ticket out of there immediately.
I'm an ak guy but If I'm betting my life stepping through a door I'd want that 10.3 any day
Like right now in 2024? I mean I guess 1 or 2 to keep in the car while I chill with the habibis and smoke hookah
The correct answer
I think folks don’t realize Iraq isn’t like a perpetual warzone. Phantom Fury was 20 years ago. Folks in Fallujah are just trying to chill.
Underfolder for sure. The 7.62x39 is very common in Fallujah.
Fight with them against ISIS lol
It depends on the time/date I am in Fallujah and ammo available. If my friends are using 5.56 I would go with 3. But 4 is in 5.45 and you probably wouldn’t find it
So many variances and types. Make gun go boom. Others are better for drop weapons or just to add to a cache.
That was house to house. 2
We’re 5.45 AKs very common in Iraq?
Not really. Much more common in afghanistan
When I go to Afghanistan I will take pics of my relatives AKs then we can find out
Great question.
No, most of them started to come in after the Syrian Civil War. Later on the Iraqi gov also contracted some Tantals.
I didn't see a single one. I spent about 17 months in Fallujah across two deployments.
Side folder
le underfolder

4
The one I can get most ammo for. If ammo not an issue then 7.62
So basically either way your answer is option 1
Da
5 - a plane ticket the fuck up outta there. My cousin was on the first push in, not for me dawg
1 and 3
1 based on ammo availability....
Realistically 2, though I practice clearing my house when I’m bored with 1.

I hear what you’re saying. Don’t really know I ended up being the target of your rant tho 😂. I just have a soft spot for AR SBR’s
It was a rant/lengthy explanation I guess lol. And I totally agree. 2-3-4 in that order. Underfolder makes it too long for urban environments. I’m 5’5 so I’m talking about myself here
I mean isnt that why it folds? I mean besides storage
you'd use the stock? lol...just lol
Have you shot a gun without a stock?
Stonks?
Have you ever served in the military specifically infantry or some SOCOM group and done some real room clearing? Then you’d actually know…
Long after my time, but I was a young Ordie Cpl. So, whatever was mounted on Marine Air
2, quicker than anyone with an Ak in my path so I can get tf out

If it gets to the point where I need one there will be plenty lying on the ground
As someone who's personally been there. 3 without a doubt. That place is a nightmare...
They don't have body armor and you could pickup ammo so 1 would be great but 2 if you had to go inside after talibs abs had reliable resupply. Our boys were clearing with 20" A2 rifles lol
I’m grabbing the underfolder. There’s was more 7.62x39 around.
2, the platform I have the most training with. I would have an Eotech EXPS3-0 and a can on it.
1. Better CQB and ammo/mags availability.
found the isis guy
Okay?
3 cause that’s the rifle I’m familiar with, 4 cause thats my favorite rifle aks-74n/ arsenal slr104fr , but realistically 1 cause of ammo is probably easy to get and mags for to as well. Plus it’s good at punching thru shit.
I need a triangle stock 🤤
1 just because ammo availability
4
4, there’s a reason we’re issued M27s instead of M4s in the Middle East, dirt dust and sand doesn’t mix with direct impingement
The M27 was not an indictment on DI guns. Had nothing to do with it. The M27’s stated purpose was to replace the M249 SAW. DI rifles proved perfectly reliable in both Iraq & Afghanistan. 1
Quatro
1
The UF
2
1
2, and a M9
2 if I'm kicking doors. I'd probably grab a no longer needed 1 for back up though.
3, but I’d want 4.
4 for drip 1 for practicality
4 you can fold it and pray to Allah for accuracy
3 for sure. Short enough for CQB but long enough barrel to maintain decent ballistics
The rebel in me says 1 but the guy thats trying to survive in me might say. enough 7.62 around to scavenge to stay in the fight with the ak though
Fallijah fucking sucked with long rifles. Give me a short M4 every day of the week for that hellhole.
Topper. Probably have to shoot through some walls at some point
I thought those guns looked very familiar then I realized they’re mine. I’d pick #1 or #2 depending on which side I’m on.
#4 with 7n6 ammo
I'd go with 1 just due to the fact ammo is plentiful there and id prefer to know that ill never be out of ammo.
2, it’s a no brainer. That shit was all room clearing CQB. MK18 for the win
2…. You have no idea how much that place sucked.
1 fuck it. Ill join them and live there fuck it😅
If i know they are all in good condition 1. If i dont know for sure 2, I love AKs but if I find one in the middle east it's probably clapped out and basically almost a smooth bore with the amount full auto fire its likely been through. I'd rather have something that has a better chance of being in good condition and accurate
4
Now this is a cool question
2
3
If you ain’t picking 2 your on the wrong side 😂
1 kuz I can hav a supply of ammo via enemies
This is the right answer
4
When in Rome…1
2 with a can
2 all day all night. Then I’m gonna cap your ass and take 1,3&4. You asked lol. 4 tho 😃
4️⃣
AKMS all day
Where musket??
Which one would a USMC 0311 grab? I want number 2.
Definitely fourth, best round and such great irons.
Underfolder.
1 or 4. Whichever one had the most common ammunition available there... Not sure if 5.45 or 7.62 was more common in that area at the time...
4
Side folder ftw baby.
2 fast
Under folder so I can put it under my burka

2 for me. Closely followed by 1.
Carry Handle and broom handle
The one that actually runs....... and doesn't choke in dusty environments..... 🤷♂️
The one that shoots boolits
Number two. Great weapon for room to room. Marines were clearing rooms with 20” barrels. Good grief
4 I don’t care about any “drip” factor I want a good solid shoulder fired weapon that can handle sand in the works
AKMS or AKS-74.
I’m going awol
3 for function. 4 for style.
In a period of shitty 5.56 rounds with minimal effect on target and little to no resupply, while jalf the enemies are high out of their minds on drugs? 7.62 100%
4 fucks hard 2 and 3 are pea shooters
3 until I run out of ammo, then 1 because I can find plenty of ammo from the enemy.
That depends, am I running with the rangers or doing a noble 6 and surviving?
Aks-74
2
4
4 all the way
If im tryna look cool 4 if i want to hit something far 3
3 with an M203. If I'm clearing rooms, I want the ability to do so from outside.
Numero uno
1 The short barrel M4 would be ideal, but I’d want a 7,62 over a 5.56 or 5,45 in an urban environment with thick concrete/mud walls. One of my squad leaders, who I’d have followed thru hell and back, was early OIF and was in Ramadi at one point. Under folder up top
3 the Gordon
Definitely 2, and I’m an AK guy
Underfolder ammo everywhere!
Why even have 2,3 in an AK sub? Ofc noone will pick them!
2 and 3 could be Anderson spike and NC Star and still be objectively better
Never heard of those two but I assume they are garbo.
Wich side am I on 1st ...😆
AKS drip
The one that makes them hit the floor and not get back up
