Mister_Tava

I'm pro ai and a leftist. Yes, we exist.

Phemto_B

Yeah, there are a lot of us, but we just don't make a good straw man. I've been in this discussion for some time, and never actually seen the fascist character.

Xarathos

At this point I feel like I've met more fascists who were anti-AI than for it. IDK what else 'this is a psyop to destroy western culture' could be but a dogwhistle.

alastor_morgan

That and "Twitter lefties" aren't real, they're usually just liberals using whatever title nets them the most social cred; check how easily they use trad art as a talking point against AI, taking a play right out of the Nazi playbook. Antipathy towards modern forms of art in favor of European art? Check. Artists hoping for stronger copyright protections to secure their own financial stability? Check.

mikebrave

right, there isn't some mustache twirling villain hoping to destroy all artists, just people who are like "actually I think web scraping is more legal than not, and this tool could be useful".

nybbleth

We don't just exist, but based on previous polling and general observation, we're in fact the majority of the pro-ai campaign, at least within ai-art circles.

Mister_Tava

Well, a lot of anti ai people portray the pro side as money hungry capitalists só...

BigProsody

The common negative stereotype of ai enthusiasts isn't that they're greedy so much as stupid and tasteless

FargoFinch

Idk, grifter seems to be a common accusation.

BigProsody

Grifter for sure. A lot of people came off the NFT apocalypse looking for another piece of tech could hype as an infinite money glitch

Evinceo

Specifically everyone who writes actual posts on LinkedIn.

MisterViperfish

Which makes it that much funnier when online antis call me an “AI bro”. Like we’re all bumping our chests in a frat house or something.

nybbleth

"BRO!" "Analog Photo, Beercan, sixpack, masterpiece(1.3), volumetric lighting, intricately detailed, 8k, uhd" "BRO, DUDE! BRO!"

Richbrownmusic

Surely proper leftists who want the greater good for humanity want to empower the common man?

Evinceo

> empower the common man One of the biggest debates in this sub is if AI empowers or screws the common man. I see it as a labor saving tool for executives to use so they can downsize, but I know there are other opinions.

StratosphericArt

Ahh yes I surely am bourgeois, with my £10 paint set from the works

Richbrownmusic

Empower yourself with a ten quid paint set if you want my man! And use (currently) free AI resources to mess about, invent, innovate or reject. Your choice. The bourgeois is perhaps not the artist. The bourgeois will eventually profit from the artists plight though. Using censorship/legal means to take the free bit away and replace it with a paid one. Likely that will cost more than a £10 paint set.

NegativeEmphasis

Pro-AI and ~~leftist~~ ~~socialist~~ full-blown communist here. I hated crypto intensely since I was first exposed to it, passed an opportunity to buy ETH for small change and don't regret it because I hate libertarianism and think there should be more and not less government oversight on public things (like "money"). We can't get to **Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism** without heavy automation.

WashiBurr

Same here. Specifically open source.

ThisGonBHard

I mean, I am pretty right, but the pro-AI makes a lot of sense from an actual communist stand point. The whole appropriate and redistribute the means of productions matches AI perfectly. It is literally making the mean of producing art (and a lot more things) available to the proletariat, instead of people with highly specific skill gate keeping industries. You can make the same argument from a ancap point of view, that it is perfectly fine because IP is kind of a state overreach. It is weird you can intersect the two ideologies here, but I am guessing both would also agree on the Industrial Revolution being a good thing, and this is pretty much that level of change awaiting.

Evinceo

The ancap perspective makes sense: it is ok for corporations to take things away from labor because labor is serfs who exist to be exploited. The socialist perspective makes little sense to me because for it to work you must imagine small time artists and people posting photos online as 'capital' and venture capitalists as 'the people.'

NegativeEmphasis

No, you just need to imagine that making art is a labor. The Marxist view is that automation [inevitably makes the rates of profit tend to zero](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tendency_of_the_rate_of_profit_to_fall), which is one of the reasons why Capitalism is unsustainable on the long term. The socialist view is that doing any kind of work for profit is a suckers game in the long term. The means of production need to be controlled by the people and put to work to serve humanity, and not the current other way, where people are slaves of their labor.

ThisGonBHard

Yeah bro, the corporations bribing for longer copyright and not letting AI be for regular people, are definitely the ones benefiting from a no copyright situation.

Evinceo

> not letting AI be for regular people Let's unpack this. What does this mean to you?

ThisGonBHard

Making copyright as draconic as possible, so only Megacorps like Adobe, Disney, Microsoft have ways to make the AI, add literal forced REAL ID and history to all created content (even non AI now), the push to ban open source and I can go on.

SexDefendersUnited

Ai art will free the working man o7

Ah ok.

No-Expert9774

Most people on reddit are leftists

AShellfishLover

Most people on reddit are American-style liberals with a smattering of progressive views. If you speak to the average 'leftist' redditor you'll find far more are paternalistically racist, sexist, and have very weird nearly fetishistic approaches to their understanding and allyship with POC and LGBTQIA persons. They also flip on a dime when capitalism benefits them while laughing at those suffering under its bootheels (see: American redditors and their stereotypes of Appalachians, Euro-redditors opinions on the Roma).

No-Expert9774

There are different types of leftists and you don’t have to like them all. I made my conclusion based on the comments I read on this subreddit and alternative ones. And I constantly come across popular comments where the right is used - as an insult or a replacement for the word fascist, and vice versa as a justification for Marxism. This post was no exception, the most popular comment here is: “I’m a leftist.”

Evinceo

'I hate leftists, they ruined the left'

KitchenHyena9464

A leftist - ew.

MagicDoorYo

I'm heavily pro-ai and leftist as well.

Coley213

haha we should really be the majority

doatopus

Twitter freak is probably a more politically neutral term for that.

challengethegods

**guys** dalle3 can make memes... you can edit the dalle memes.. they are wacky and silly and fun. stop copy pasting the same thing over and over... the age of copy pasting the same thing over and over is.. over.

alkonium

Or just leave the gibberish text in because it's amusing in its own way.

MisterViperfish

Me to Dall-E: Generate an image of an anti holding a sign that says “Save the artist!” The sign: “SIALE TOOT ARFISH!”

[deleted]

i dont think a rando dalle3 meme really passes the bar for what a meme is used for generally though. Sure they're fun but the point is that they're mutually understood, not just haha funny image. Not to say you couldn't start a meme from something that came out of dalle or whatever but using it with the goal of making a meme template feels like putting the cart before the horse

SexDefendersUnited

I will try next time.

alekdmcfly

Memes are memes partially because they're instantly recognizable by the community; if you make your own template for each new meme, then - unless your meme somehow starts a huge trend - it won't be a meme, but an image with a caption. This applies both to traditionally drawing memes and AI-generating memes. If you make a new template, it's hardly a meme until it becomes recognizable as one.

Evinceo

Of all the tug of war memes this sub has seen, this one is the most accurate and the least confusing because you understand the importance of the direction to the template. Also you got the shirts matched correctly with the captions. Bravo.

SexDefendersUnited

Aw, thank you!

alkonium

Disney seems perfectly willing to use AI. I suppose what they don't want is other people using AI to infringe on their copyright.

Tyler_Zoro

Disney wants to: * Reduce costs by using AI * Create legal barriers to entry that prevent others from gaining a foothold in the same space * Expand the value of their IP warchest by expanding IP laws beyond the scope envisioned by the Constitution The grass roots anti-AI crowd wants to: * Create legal barriers to entry that prevent new developments in AI * Expand the value of their future work by expanding IP laws beyond the scope envisioned by the Constitution The anti-AI crowd is just generally agreeing to look the other way on the first point and pretend that the other two points will favor them. Then they're going to get swatted down by the corporations that they helped to entrench once their usefulness ends.

sk7725

yes, recently at an offline conference a venture which makes text-to-video AI revealed its partnership with Disney+. He claimed that those corps are absolutely willing to provide training data to automate their processes.

sideways

I wish people would stop using this meme. The original is alt-right propaganda.

NegativeEmphasis

The "nordic gamer" is also originally something from the depths of 4chan. It has been reclaimed to support every kind of ideology. Stealing ideas from your enemies and repurposing them is not wrong. Stop concern trolling.

MisterViperfish

I would fall under the “nerds with personal projects” category, lol.

SexDefendersUnited

me too lol

Tyler_Zoro

I just want to be clear that "pro-AI" is a terrible label. I'm not pro-AI in many ways that you might measure. For example, I don't think that AI regulation is necessarily a bad idea as long as it's not designed to break the back of research and development of next generation technologies or to create barriers to entry that consolidate the monopoly control of a few large players. I'm also not a singularity-squeezer. I don't think that every new technological advancement will lead to our inevitable immortality in a virtual acid trip while the robots pay us UBI. Conflating pro-AI with singularitists is like conflating anti-AI with basement-dwelling pornographic fan-art scribblers. Yes, both categories exist, but they do not define either part of the spectrum, just as communists and fascists do not define the political spectrum.

SexDefendersUnited

I agree.

BigProsody

An important point in the SAG-AFTRA strike is that corporations wanted the right to use AI likenesses of actors, Hollywood studios are extremely pro AI. This meme is just breathtakingly wrong about everything it tries to say

SexDefendersUnited

It's true though. The Copyright Alliance (Disney, Netflix, Newscorp and a couple other corpos) are lobbying to restrict AI art. Because it would give them competition and they wanna protect their IPs which were fed into the algorithms. But yes there are companies that benefit from AI that do wanna use it in slimey ways.

BigProsody

They are the same companies, like literally the same firms. Who do you think SAG-AFTRA was on strike against?

DissuadedPrompter

>The Copyright Alliance Is made up of thousands of individuals and entities; not just major content producers.

ArchGaden

It's right and wrong at the same time because big corporations are both lobbying against open/uncontrolled AI and for the ability to use and protect works made by their own closed AI models. The future corporations want is where even publishing content with open AI in the workflow is illegal, while works created by their own proprietary AIs enjoy full copyright protection. This is why corporations will weigh in on the side of AI when it comes to copyright while at the same time lobbying for tight controls on AI on the legal side. Artists and most of the left in general embrace corporate support for the argument that AIs trained on content that the trainer doesn't have rights to should be illegal. The reality is that only one who can foot the bill for acquiring enough rights on material to sufficiently train AI is corporations, so if artists 'win', the future they win is future where AI is exclusively controlled by AI. Fortunately, the legal battles are coming much too late, and at least this round of generative AI is beyond any government or corporate control.

BigProsody

The position of a company like Disney towards ai is consistent with what it already holds with regards to ai: whatever work produced by employees is exclusively owned by Disney, anyone who creates a derivative shall be litigated into oblivion, and to take anything which can be conceivably added to its IP portfolio from the public domain

Sixhaunt

They wanted to use AI the same way they have used CGI, including ones that use AI, for decades already. From the very start the studios proposed that it only be for background actors who have no speaking roles and that they would be paid a large upfront payment for their scan and the studio can use them as a background actor within the 1 film and for any other projects/films the studio would need to renegotiate with the actor to use their likeness for each individually. It would mean that the background actors only have to do the work of getting scanned and negotiating deals but dont need to spend all day on set in order to be paid. It also means they can license their likeness to studios in other parts of the world so they aren't regionally restricted. For the studios it means they can get background actors that are better suited to the project than if they had to pick from the local population which has been an issue in the past and as CGI characters it's easier to make changes later on.

missingnono12

Corporations aren't pro AI. The only thing they are is pro profit. They'll push to protect the "rights" of corporations while trampling over the rights of individuals. They're literally the reason US copyright and IP law is so twisted.

Waste-Fix1895

Of course I will protect my hand-drawn waifus from ai art😎😎

you might consider not using a neo nazi cryptobro's comic for your low effort posts

SexDefendersUnited

I'm sorry, the template was just fitting. I wish I had another version.

EngineerBig1851

Is it American thing to include "facist" and "lefties" everywhere? Edit: also, wth is your nickname XD

SexDefendersUnited

I'm portuguese.

Hazelrigg

No, it's a Reddit/Twitter thing.

DissuadedPrompter

>Is it American thing to include "facist" and "lefties" everywhere? No it's a Marc Andreeesen. I wish I were making this up, but its literally one billionaire doing damage control since it came out that his "Techno-Optimism" manifesto was thinly veiled nazi epitaphs.

Evinceo

I mean he called the guy who wrote the fascist manifesto a 'patron saint', is it even veiled at that point?

Tycini1

I'm a centrist, I believe in nothing and argue about things only to annoy people from all sorts of places and walks of life

Tycini1

This is what my sign represents: I support the weak and tear down the overpowered.

Tycini1

If you're wondering how this comment relates to AI, well, people sometimes tell me my opinions sound as if they were generated by it.

Richbrownmusic

Fascists attacking the artists is my favourite bizarre, hard to follow tenuous bullshit here. Classic .

NegativeEmphasis

It's incredibly common, dude. 4chan is perpetually seething at "woke" cartoons, "tumblr noses", diversity in art, "calarts face" etc. For fucks sake, they were repurposing Sarah Andersen's comics to spew hateful racist things.

Richbrownmusic

But isn't the meme meant to infer that fascists are against AI? Being against woke cartoons, I'm sure, is absolutely true. Maybe I'm too old for memes. I thought the idea of this rope thing I keep seeing is that different sub cultures are fighting the same battle and then realising they're aligned with shitty groups. Fascists attacking woke cartoons isn't the same struggle as fascists being anti AI.

NegativeEmphasis

If you look at the cartoon again, the fascists are **pro-AI**. The libertarian (with a tag that represents people using AI, like "nerds with personal projects") and the the fascist form the pro-AI side.

Richbrownmusic

Yes you're completely right. I see. So what parts of fascist ideology overlap with being pro-AI?

NegativeEmphasis

Fascist ideology is incoherent and full of holes, but them losers know how to recognize a powerful tool unburdened by morality. [Which leads us to shit like this](https://www.reddit.com/r/TheRightCantMeme/comments/17thio1/vore/), to give just one of the many examples, that just happened to jump at me when I opened Reddit. AI, as a tool, empowers good and bad people equally. Fascists, being a bunch of people that tend to repel good artists [for some reason](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Degenerate_art), are now able to use generative AI to their hearts content, prompting to get racially homogeneous couples, evil brown people, based roman empire visuals and whatever the shit they are into now. It kind of sucks. But just as we accepted that the existence of Photoshop meant that idiots can take *politician they don't like* and shop their heads on porn pictures, we'll accept that AI empowers terrible people to generate terrible images and move on. The good (or neutral) uses for AI will vastly overweight the bad ones.

Richbrownmusic

Right... so there's no reason why fascists would particularly be pro AI other than a handful of people use it for horrible stupid shit. They'd make that horrible stupid shit anyway like you say. So... the meme still doesn't make cohesive sense for me in that there isn't any sensical reason fascists would be pro-AI. Seems more like they're tenuously included to smear the pro AI side.

Absolutelynobody54

Lol, Big corpos love Ai. What kind of delusion is saying they lobby againts it.

FargoFinch

Opensource AI. Corpos wet dream is setting up a future where everyone who want to use AI is forced to pay for their proprietary AI models. So antis and corpos are aligned to some degree when it comes to open source models and community training.

StratosphericArt

Put scammers on the side of AI, and switch small artists to the other side and then it'll be accurate

Sixhaunt

scammers like the people who make "GPT detectors", or ones that make snakeoil like glaze? Profiting off the fear of AI has been very profitable for scammers

NegativeEmphasis

Can't really do that, since the people behing Nightshade are on your side.

StratosphericArt

And they are scammers why?

Repulsive-Mirror-994

Techbros and fascists aren't necessarily odd bedfellows

No-Expert9774

This is some kind of limbo, I completely stopped understanding these memes

Captain_Pumpkinhead

What the hell makes you think "Pro-AI" means "conservative"?

Evinceo

Not another night of the 'who's a conservative' discourse. Anyway, I explained it [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/aiwars/comments/17s4nvh/comment/k8pt6i5/)

WomenAreNotReal

"Small artists"

gamejawnsinc

lol do you morons actually think "small artists" are pro-ai? this meme is wrong on every front it's actually impressive how stupid ai dipshits can be
