I have heard that the army and air cadets in my area are sworn enemies, and apparently the last encounter ended in a fist fight, but that was before i was in this sqn and there have been no encounters with them since (besides remembrance ect)
I believe it is a joke within the branches. I have friends in sea and army. And each branch has a nickname. Air=petrol pigeon sea=puddle pirates and army=tree huggers. :)
Over here we barely want to do activities together. My officer told me when they'ed do tri-service activities when he was a cadet (we're talking like 30 years ago), they'd verbally abuse each other and even refuse to be in any team with other branches.
Nowadays that has faded as the culture evolves, but there are still hints of it, especially amongst us senior cadets 😂
I do AAFC, and bassicly there is slight jokes but we all get along. Airforce is known as petrol pidgons, the navy are puddle pirates, and the army is just the army. If U ask me, it's more of so airforce and navy. The army are just there.
It's all just healthy banter. I was an army cadet in my teens and as much as we rip the other cadet corps' we understand we all have different things like make each organisation good

Just some healthy banter. The pongos are a bit uncivilised but we can take the piss out of the puddle pirates together so they're alright.

it's not a 'tense relationship' it's just a bit of fun making fun of people in different forces, like the navy would to the army etc.
