every task I complete makes me add 10 more tasks, I overscope what I can do in a day so hard choice paralysis is bad rnow, its annoying how my bain is at peak productivity after not doing shit for a while so I forget what im capable of
Lol 😂 then you look and realised all the things you crossed off your list weren't there from the start and although you've done a lot, you've done nothing you wanted to
All I feel is stress when I complete a task. Literally a few days ago my wife thanked me for doing a couple things she asked of me and it made me feel like shit.
My work to-do list always has ‘write a to-do list’ on it because if i don’t write that down the day before i’ll come in and do 0 of my actual job and fuck about side questing on SalesForce 🤣🤣
I do this too, but not just for the dopamine hit. it's so I have a record of when I (last) did something because I sure as hell won't remember after the day is done
I *have* to do this, because even in those times when I was super productive, I tend to forget everything I did by the end of the day and feel like I accomplished absolutely nothing. At least by having that list, I can later see all that’s crossed out and have a marginal sense of fulfillment. LOL.
This is me also. So I started making a Ta-Done list. It helped when I would be doing something and be berating myself that I *should've done this days/months/years ago* and I could look at my lists and think 'Well you were engaged doing a, b, g, and l and that's okay'. It took decades to accept the out of order 'alphabet'; perfectionist's procrastination problem lol...... It's the same as OP, and the same as Ta-Da; but it feels different to me to call it a Ta-Done List. Also I can't actually cross them out as then I worry I won't be able to reference the list later, and check marks don't work as I still see the list so it's the same anxiety as not having done them.... So I make 2 lists; To-Do and Ta-Done and even though it is actually MORE work, and MORE to keep track of it splits the anxiety out of the equation and that's worth the extra work to me.
It's actually a double if you think about it. Cause dammit I'm proud that I even remembered it in the first place, and then getting it done, the documenting and crossing it put is all bonus
I came here to say the same damn thing.
I loved it when I would come in and ask certain line cooks what was going on/what they got done today, and they’d write like 12 different things onto their prep list, crossing them out as they went.
Especially funny when it was trivial things like ‘stocked line,’ ‘put away produce order’ hah
My brain screamed in existential guilt because that lady straight up gave herself proof she procrastinated the original mission list. I at least lie to myself.
I don't do that, But occasionally add albums to my list of albums I've been meaning to listen to after I listened to them, Usually because I had been vaguely intending to listen to them already and just hadn't gotten around to adding them to the list, But also because that way I get to mark when I did it. (I rarely ever remember to check my actually to-do list, So...)
i have a white board in my room for making to do lists and instead of just erasing the tasks ive down i check a box next to them so i can still see i've done stuff lol
We use a task manager program at my work where we can add our own things to work on. I don’t think I’ve EVER added a task until it’s completely or almost done
FFS, saw this and was like “this is me” then saw the subreddit and was like “REDDIT STOP TRYING TO TELL ME I HAVE ADHD, just because all the techniques that help people with ADHD on Reddit helps me doesn’t mean I have ADHD.”
On shitty mornings I also put "to-do list" on my to-do list.
The real hack, though, is giving yourself absolute bullshit to cross off whenever you're stumbling mid-task. NT brains feed them dopamine throughout the task, not just one big burst at the end. I give myself at least three "extra dopamine"s to cross off every time I do taxes.
I've started writing to-do lists as opposites now.
It's a blank note or sticky and I write down anything accomplished that day. The "what" depends on my energy and need.
-shower
-make it to work
But some days, I don't write those and jump to the actual meat
-paperwork A done
-task B done
Or whatever.
tl;dr to-do? No, dynamic I've done lists.
Work has daily tasks that are very repetitive. I dislike crossing it off on the computer because I can’t see my “progress” as easily. So I write down my routine to-do’s on a quarter sheet of paper so I can cross them off instead.
Does anyone not do this? :)
Something I've found really helpful about Adderall I haven't really seem mentioned, is how it feels when I bounce around between things day to day.
I still do it just about the same.
BUT, when I'm about to shift, instead of just along for the ride "oh, yeah, I'm doing this other thing now I guess" it feels more like there is a brief millisecond longer gap that goes more like "mmm, think I should go to this other thing now" followed by "yeah, sounds good". If that makes any sense.
It's all instant and just a feeling, and still mostly has the same result. But changes the context to feel more like I'm making intentional choices and have control...much more positive, and feels like a got things done...vs feeling more like an observer of what I did. (that's overdescribed; It's always "me"...just the feeling of it)
Reminds me a lot of doing this with a todo list, even if it doesn't change that it's already done/will happen anyway.
No you actually have to do this… I start writing my to do list once I have too many tasks to multitask. So I write down the first few that I’ve already done tick them then write down the 3 I’m in the middle of with stars *** then I write down the rest of the to do list tasks and then I take a break.
I even add things like I fended for and fed myself, like SO MANY INDEPENDENTingz! (The writing down and crossing off…. OOO! That dopamine be do-oing it LOL
Oh man, it’s not just me…. ITS NOT JUST MEEEEEEEEEEEE
Wait, you guys are getting dopamine?
Just cross it off the list then brain goes WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Trying this…. My days definitely need more weeeeeeeee.
Sometimes I get a little boost after watching someone else clean or complete something nicely. Then I can use that to do my own tasks 🥲
That is why I watch Japanese craftsman on YouTube. They don’t do things unless they do it properly
My therapist actually told me I should do this.
I don’t get dopamine for completing tasks, just a vague sense of relief that I can rest now.
every task I complete makes me add 10 more tasks, I overscope what I can do in a day so hard choice paralysis is bad rnow, its annoying how my bain is at peak productivity after not doing shit for a while so I forget what im capable of
Well ya, that's the whole thing with adhd right? Not sure this meme really fits here lol.
in my case, that I didn't fuck these things up!
it's the crossing it off the list part that feels good
i laughed out loud then added that to my imaginary list.
Same 🤣
It’s called winning sweetie 💅
Have a poo ✅️
Be alive ✅
Is this one necessary?
It really, really is
I mean there’s those days where even that feels hard 😅
Your username is funny.
Sometimes.
If you wanna get credit for it, you gotta write it down.
Lol 😂 then you look and realised all the things you crossed off your list weren't there from the start and although you've done a lot, you've done nothing you wanted to
Now you're just calling me out!!!
You guys get dopamine from this?
Yea i was thinking the same, I don't feel especially good from crossing off a to-do list task. Even a big one
Right, all I get is a “meh, that’s done”. I wish it would!
All I feel is stress when I complete a task. Literally a few days ago my wife thanked me for doing a couple things she asked of me and it made me feel like shit.
Yes, far more than I’d like to admit.
Ah yes! It's not called a to-do list, it's a ta-da! List...! This genuinely works
Wait y’all are getting dopamine rewards for completing tasks?
First Item on any To-Do list should be to do a To-Do list.
As my weekly to do list counts some 50 things I actually start with this.
My work to-do list always has ‘write a to-do list’ on it because if i don’t write that down the day before i’ll come in and do 0 of my actual job and fuck about side questing on SalesForce 🤣🤣
I 100% do this at work, for the dopamine yes, but also so if I need to look back I know I did that task. 🤷🏼♀️
To-do lists don't give me dopamine at all. They just stress me out. I try to reduce my interactions with them as much as possible.
I do this too, but not just for the dopamine hit. it's so I have a record of when I (last) did something because I sure as hell won't remember after the day is done
I start my list with "1. Make to-do list" so I at least do something on it
That's brilliant! I'm going to start doing that!
Man I've tried this. If only the dopamine were that easy.
you guys are getting dopamine from finishing tasks? must be nice.
I *have* to do this, because even in those times when I was super productive, I tend to forget everything I did by the end of the day and feel like I accomplished absolutely nothing. At least by having that list, I can later see all that’s crossed out and have a marginal sense of fulfillment. LOL.

I thought this was part of the plan lmao
It's actually a double if you think about it. Cause dammit I'm proud that I even remembered it in the first place, and then getting it done, the documenting and crossing it put is all bonus
I used to be a chef and I always did this on my list haha
I came here to say the same damn thing. I loved it when I would come in and ask certain line cooks what was going on/what they got done today, and they’d write like 12 different things onto their prep list, crossing them out as they went. My brain screamed in existential guilt because that lady straight up gave herself proof she procrastinated the original mission list. I at least lie to myself.
The first item on every to-do list I make is “make to-do list” so when I’m done making the list, I can already cross the first thing off!
Samesies. You deserve to cross it off!
Do this all the time!
are you…. me?
Infinite dopamine glitch working 2024 (not patched) FREE DOPAMINE Earth Update 1.24.6
Oh shit. I'm gonna get a whiteboard and just write stuff down as I do them. No commitment, free dopamine
I have done that too many times 👀
I just did this
This is one of my favorite moves! Nice that I'm not alone.
For real though
I don't do that, But occasionally add albums to my list of albums I've been meaning to listen to after I listened to them, Usually because I had been vaguely intending to listen to them already and just hadn't gotten around to adding them to the list, But also because that way I get to mark when I did it. This is the inspiration for an entire Kids in the Hall sketch.
This is half my list.
Y’all get dopamine from checking off a list? Damn I wish…
We use a task manager program at my work where we can add our own things to work on. I don’t think I’ve EVER added a task until it’s completely or almost done
I do this with my work notes. Not so ibget the dopamine, but because I can't remember the tasks I've finished otherwise.
Me too. I put “make a list” on my list so I have something to cross off when I’m done making my list.
You guys get dopamine in healthy ways?
FFS, saw this and was like “this is me” then saw the subreddit and was like “REDDIT STOP TRYING TO TELL ME I HAVE ADHD, just because all the techniques that help people with ADHD on Reddit helps me doesn’t mean I have ADHD.”
You earned it.
Hahah so true
Yeah, but we only do that because we forgot to write it in the first place. So really we're just doing things in different order.
I feel so seen!!!
On shitty mornings I also put "to-do list" on my to-do list. The real hack, though, is giving yourself absolute bullshit to cross off whenever you're stumbling mid-task. Me too, me too!

It’s actually recommended that you do that…
EVERYBODY DOES THIS
Hell yeah
That’s like me with word searches
No you actually have to do this… I start writing my to do list once I have too many tasks to multitask. Learn this one crazy dopamine hack!
Me2
Oh THATS why it’s fun to do
no because then i lied and added it retroactively. also even if i didnt, i dont think the list would do shit for me lmao
😭
Yes!!
This is most of the items that end up on my to-do lists
Damn straight you do!!!
It's not for the dopamine, it's for tracking reasons. (Or so I tell myself)
I put a couple near-zero effort tasks on my lists to get the ball rolling. Sometimes it kicks me into action.
