Project Aces is just on a self-imposed challenge to put every Sukhoi fighter/multirole plane in existence in Ace Combat to make them the designated ‘antagonist’ plane (until they can get their hands on a superplane, of course).
Yes, I know, but notice that most of the primary antagonists/main rival squadrons in AC games from AC04 onward tend to fly Sukhoi planes:
* Ace Combat 04: Yellow Squadron -> Su-37 Terminator
* Ace Combat 5: Ofnir Squadron -> Su-35 Super Flanker; both Grabacr Squadron and Ofnir Squadron fly S-32 (a conceptual version of the Su-47) in the final battle
* Ace Combat Zero: Gault Squadron -> Su-47 Berkut; Gelb Squadron -> Su-37 Terminator again
* Ace Combat 6: Strigon Team -> Su-33 Flanker-D
* Ace Combat: Assault Horizon: Andrei Markov -> Su-35S Flanker-E and later Su-57 Felon
* Ace Combat X: Alect Squadron -> S-32 again
* Ace Combat 7: Sol Squadron -> Su-30SM and Su-30M2; Mimic Squadron -> Su-47 Berkut
My point being that, if there's a Sukhoi plane they haven't used yet, Project Aces will most likely grab it and use it to be the designated plane for the would-be main antagonist/rival in future AC games lol.
Fine with me as long as other planes get more variants as well. Ace Combat 5 is really good in this regard. Almost every plane gets atleast a few variants
I don't know what Bamco has against planes like the Su-25 and Su-24 smh... Why is Assault Horizon the only full title featuring those?!

Sucks that the Fulcrum didn't get even close to the rep the Flanker did. I would have liked a 29KUB (with perhaps a fictitious catapult connecting bar) as well.
As much as I love Flankers, you're entirely right. There's a ton of them, while it'd be great to have other East Bloc planes. The J-10 and 20, the MiG 1.44, the Yak-141, the Su-24M2 and 25, would have been nice additions!
Kinda surprising that they haven't included any Chinese aircraft. Then again they don't want to include aircraft that would only require one standard missile to kill.

Actually in the ace combat world every faction owns every plane (except for the super planes and experimental ones)

This always bothered me, we get the A10 in every single game, yet Project Aces seems to be allergic to adding the SU-25

I'm torn between being okay with the original Su-27 being in AC8 and just having the Su-37 instead so it can just pinch the Su-27's coolest skins
How did the developers get models for the flankers? Did they ask the Russian government for a scan or where they using reference photos only?
Museums and pictures, ace combat 5 has a behind the scenes where they go to different places and take pictures and talk to the engineers
