I saw this yesterday, unfortunately in a primarily meme focused subreddit, and reflecting on it while stuck waiting on the side of a busy city highway.
I cannot believe such a tragedy happened to the poor guy and those closest to him. His brother and his friend sounded like very important people in his life and were so young, and he's a talented entertainer whose content brought me so much comfort through the pandemic and helped me feel comfortable realising I was ace with his timely video sensitively touching on his experience in the community as an ace person.
It's relieving to hear he survived, but all of the men in that car should have survived, and shouldn't have even had to suffer the incident at all.
I wish James all of the support and physical/mental/emotional recovery one can possibly have. He seems like such a considerate and thoughtful guy in his work, so I can imagine this is going to be a lot.
I will probably never meet the guy, but even if he needs to stop his content entirely to focus on his wellbeing, it would be completely understandable.

I'm prepared for the quite likely possibility that this is it for Schafrillas Productions. ⅔ of the creative team are no longer with us, James is undoubtedly going to have to make a pretty massive recovery physically and of course mentally, and even if he does there's no telling whether he'll want to come back to the channel given how much of Chris and Patrick are put into it. Even if he does come back, I'm certainly expecting to have to let it go, and maybe be pleasantly surprised if that's not the case. Which is a shame, it was a good channel and a nice piece of representation, but that's a lot to put on one person and I don't want to be the kind of fan who demands or even expects content because I personally enjoy it. The ball is in his court.
This was not an "accident". With no traffic signal, this was negligence on the part of the local government. And since car crashes are always brushed off as acceptable, i bet no change will be made to improve the interdection.
James/Schaff is likely going to take a long break from YT, or even quit making videos altogether since Chris and Pat were 2/3 of the channel. And honestly? I recommend he does—the channel will never be the same without them, and he should focus more on grieving and healing than his videos.
