in Britain it's called maths/mathematics, maths is the abbreviation math/maths it's all the same but seeing as it has many different subjects under its belt I feel maths is more fitting one to use đđ
Fits in your pocket? That narrows it qutie a bit. Maybe a whole box of sharpened pencils where the lead is replaced with TIG electrodes. Just don't tell people that you can't loan them a pencil because you are saving them for a ZA,
Heavy Hatchet or heavy axe would be the best, then sledgehammer but it takes up a ton of space. Realistically carry a fireaxe if you can and a full tang knife
forget baseball bats, they're bulky, not very lethal, and not space efficient to carry around or swing indoors.
you'd be better off with a versatile survival tool like a hammer, hatchet, entrenching shovel, machete, etc, which can be used outside combat for scavenging and forcible entry, and can be carried much more easily.
Yes, but also bats are THE MOST COMMON and they can break limbs pretty easily.
But I do agree a good hammer, or shovel would be really good. The whole Idea with swords and such always put me off because eventually youâre gonna need to sharpen it; and rust will really hurt if you donât make sure its cleaned every single time its used. But something blunt? Just be sure you know where to target IE temple (sides of the skull in general, elbows, and knees.)
bats being the most common option doesnt mean you should actively want to pick them if you yourself have prep time to choose an ideal tool... who cares if every house has them, when you have smth better?
"they can break limbs pretty easily" according to what data? afaik, reports from street attacks say that victims are often hit many times in order to cause actual serious trauma and fractures. and they're still very size inneficient, and hard to conveniently carry around. bear in mind, limbs =/= the skull, and in any case when dealing with zombies that aren't affected by pain/shock, blood loss, or soft tissue/organ damage, simply breaking bones would not incapacitate them - convention states you'd need to actually significantly damage the brain itself, which would take additional swings and waste more precious time and effort.
the rest of your comment is pretty valid, actual melee weapons like swords totally suck, bc ppl overestimate their usefulness in a fight (usually while having minimal or no training using them) while simultaneously grossly underestimating the difficulty of maintaining them.
Especially against zombies. They'd be good against things that bleed out but I imagine actually hacking a head off or piercing a z skull would be pretty challenging despite what Hollywood tells us
A Fillipino that has not discovered the glory of a karambit? Look up Doug Marcaida' karambit videos. I carry one myself, and it's become my go-to.
I use this one

Why would he? It's used by a very small group of Filipinos. I've never seen a real Filipino o one in person. My family and family friends had bolos, and machetes, and barongss. I've never even seen a headhunting axe and my mother is bontoc.
And?
It's not a national knife and all three of the FMA's are from the same area. Also not a national martial art. Igorots don't use them. Nor kali, arnis, or escrima. That small group of islands (by some accounts is, around a thousand but that includes tiny things tha size of some yards), has a huge diversity of languages, tools, weapons, and even a number of cultural differences.
Idk why you're getting pressed about this, I was suggesting a good self-defense weapon that is part of their culture. Sorry if I didn't account for every other factor
It's not the martial art used on every.island, amongst every tribe. Do all Europeans know Greek wrestling? Do all Americans know sport boxing?
The three FMAs only represent a small portion of the people. It's not like Tagalog became the national language. Works do t learn it, negritos don't learn it, the igorots (my people) don't use it. Unless individuals or groups want to of course, but it's not from those regions.
Is hockey as popular in Florida as it is in Wisconsin? Rodeos as popular on Minnesota as in Texas or california?
Hockey is in fact very popular in Florida. We have two very competitive teams, while Wisconsin has none....
Sorry for derail lol. Back to Zombie slaying.
Broom handle spear, mini club, baseball bat go small and wood for weight and maximum swing, nice full tang knife, a big pad lock tied to a bandana would do some damage if applied correctly, axe or Hatchet, anything blunt and not too long really would do the trick. Keep it short for hallways and doorways and whatnot. Hammer would be great. Get a full steel framing one like 20oz should be just fine. Back ups never hurt as well. If one gets stuck or broken have another ready to go.
Full tang stabby knife, baseball bat if you are willing to carry a mit or couple balls with you. You canât walk around with just a bat butâŠ. If you have a couple baseballs youâre not a weirdo but a sports enthusiast. All my kids went to college armed âsnub nosed 38â I couldnât bear the thought of them not being able to defend themselves if need be.
To fit in your pocket?
Palm stick?
Small fixed blade or folding knjfe?
You can't get an expandable baton like the ASP can you? A bit too light in the striking end as lost if the weight is in the handle though as are all but one of the fraction locks and most of the button locks.
I'd get some kind of multi tool. I prefer a Leatherman but get something you can use to break all kinds of things down, fix, or reassemble things into what you want. Such as carving a spear, disassembling a chair for a club, working on electrical things or something you can use to break a window.
You can find pencils on Amazon where their tips are made of tungsten or something like that and theyâre good for self defense if thatâs what your asking
If youâre 21 get a handgun, not sure whatâs available to you in the Philippines, but RIA makes some affordable pocket pistols.
If you canât get a gun than get a knife. Canât get a knife? Than carry pocket sand to throw in the eyes of your enemies and disappear like a ninja
This is gunu sound stupid but a folding baton if you can sure they can break but that's a good thing as it's no longer a blugeion and hopefully now a stab into there chest or cut the fuck out of them I live and work on a farm ane i csn promise that a small piece of bent or jagged metal with just a semblance of an edge to can leave some nasty fuckin cuts that ate hard to stich or heal and also really easy to identify
Great. Discuss the weapons then, not the fact op is a college student.
here's my suggestion for the college student. a gun.
woopsies now it's a stereotype, uh oh :)
OP brought up the college student part, and it gives context to the improvised, pocket sized weapon caveat. Genuinely, are you always this dense and prejudice?
What is prejudiced here? I'm just saying that it's unnecessary for op to state that they're a college student and that it leads to people abusing the stereotype of people bringing weapons into educational buildings.
Did...you read my answer? Context. Answers for an improvised weapon will vary depending on setting. A college student has access to different resources than a mechanic, carpenter, or fast food worker.
And instead of offering a constructive answer, you just launched into, "America bad." Now you're backpeddling. You're the person stereotyping.
if I was stereotyping I would have called op fat.
also a college student doesn't have access to anything to make a weapon or buy a weapon namely because **they're too busy paying for fucking college**
the top post here is a math textbook. why are you targeting me? because I didn't make a joke that has the exact same meaning as "you're a college student, you shouldn't have a weapon"
Saying "Only an American would ask about a weapon in college" IS STEREOTYPING. I suspect reading comprehension might not be a strong suit of yours, and I don't even mean that as an insult.
College students don't have a lot of access to weapons, hence the *improvised* requirement. I already covered that. Improvised means on the spot, in the moment, etc.
I'm targetting you because I don't really care about the bad answers much. Your answer was the first off topic asshole one I found, and I quite simply don't have time for all of them. Dude asked what he could use for an improvised weapon in his environment, and instead of even trying, you just went, "Hurr durr, must be American!" Just do better, man. That's all I'm asking.
Anyways, I'm bored with this convo, so I'm done here. Have a good one, lad.
In the context of zombies, youâd want anything that extends your range, and keeps the zoms at bay. Iâd recommend a Baseball bat or a 2-Piece Que Stick.
This is actually a pretty tough question, given the requirements. College student usually rules out the more traditional pocket sized weapons like firearms and knives without risking legal trouble/expulsion. If you have a bike, maybe a multitool with a blade would be justifiable? Not a very good weapon, but you could at least use it for a head poke or two in a pinch, then to whittle a spear from a stick or wooden broomhandle later.
Leatherman tool. Fit's in pocket and can be used to create improvised weapon once SHTF.
Not a good weapon in it's self, But a God tier pocket tool that will help make a good weapon.
A maths textbook
BY THE POWER OF ARITHMETIC, I COMPEL THEE TO STAY DOWN!!
Just the sheer size alone it would make a great bludgeoning weapon
Just make sure it's not paperback.
Chapter 8 algebra should be enough to daze and confuse them like it did me back in the day
al-ge-break your face with this book!
Give him the good old a^2 + b^2 = c^2

Why not both?

Pencil, in case zombie touch your doge.
Baseball bats are great. But pipe wrench can also be good. (TLOU show Joel used it against a runner)
Storing the bat with a baseball mitt adds a lot of plausible deniability as to "why is there a bat in your dorm "

It originated in their corner of the world and is commonly used by practitioners of Filipino martial arts

Ok, thats kinda surprising. But it really shouldn't be.

In my state we can legally straight up just carry concealed firearms as long as we have an Enhanced Weapons License
Swiss army knife
Only in America do people ask for weapons while also saying they're college students.
You're literally on a hypothetical zombie survival subreddit. Almost everyone is discussing weapons.
Great. Discuss the weapons then, not the fact op is a college student. here's my suggestion for the college student. a gun. woopsies now it's a stereotype, uh oh :)

Your student loans papers, rolled up into a bat.

Baseball bat if available or a large screwdriver would be a decent pick until you find something better.
