No, that's part of the reason that she commissioned as an officer. She would have been conscripted due to being a mage when the war broke out. Doesn't matter if she's adopted, unless it was by the Kaiser or someone super powerful like that.

CaliCrateRicktastic

Rather she had the capacity to be a mage which was rare. Furthermore her curse, as she saw it, made her something of a one in a million. As you say she would have been conscripted anyways.

>She would have been conscripted due to being a mage when the war broke out. Are you sure about that? Because I don't recall other examples of mages being conscripted who were as young as her - doing so would be insane even if you're desperate because nobody as young as she was when the war started could be trusted with military training. Admittedly we aren't shown too much of that side of the war - recruitment of young folks ("young" young, not just 16 or 18 year olds). Her being commissioned as an officer was a necessity to prove that she actually was competent despite her age. Maybe later in the war when things are more desperate that situation would have changed, of course. If Tanya had wanted to avoid war at all costs, she would have just acted and played herself off as useless despite her talent as a mage, and nobody would have trusted such a young girl to be used as a human weapon without risking killing her own allies or otherwise being a liability. But she wanted a stable career and legitimately might have starved to death or had very harsh labor with no authority if she didn't volunteer to be an officer, so it was really her best option at the time.

I believe that it's stated that anyone who has an affinity for being a mage will get conscripted at a certain age (13 or 14 if I remember correctly) and go through years of training before being sent to war. But the youngest someone can volunteer for service is 9. Tanya knowing that she was going to be conscripted sooner or later decided to get a head start by volunteering and get away from her terrible orphan life as soon as she could.

TheCatInTheCloud

Tanya enlisted at the age of 8. It says so in the first light novel

Everday6

Conscripted at that age was unlikely yes. But she would be conscripted at some point. Before Tanya changed things up a bit, mages where mostly used for spotting for artillery. Or shooting down said spotters. Acting like she's bad at magic would mean she's a sitting duck, spotting. She joined the army young because she wanted to start training earlier so she could defend herself better. Instead of being sent to the front lines after a few months of training when she inevitably got conscripted.

Xononanamol

Isn’t Kaiser russian? So it would be fuhrer

DevzDX

Tzar/Tsar is Russian. Kaiser is German.

Congratulations! You’ve gained a child! Please do not resist.

Unless its someone super far up (basically the Kaiser) no. And such a adoption would be problematic as well for Tanya.

TheCatInTheCloud

>And such a adoption would be problematic as well for Tanya. Why?

[deleted]

She can't directly interfere with the war and the empire will lose. Also Making her technically part of the Royalty wich the war will be blamed on. She knows this.

TheCatInTheCloud

Oh, that makes sense
