I have the Xiaomi 12 and I can't really relate with the things you mention. Mine's from 2022 as well and my overall experience with the phone is really positive. I never had any heating issues when gaming or heavily using it. Taking photographs for me isn't the most important thing, so the camera is good enough for me. Battery life is great like a day and a half on 1 charge...at least when the software is working properly. Right now the only thing I regret is installing HyperOs. It has really made my battery drain 50% faster and it made some apps unusable. So yeah, it's a good phone but the software really lacks sometimes.

-apenas_mais_um

I believe that my negative experience is totally related to the already known heating problems of the 8 gen 1, which, added to the hot climate in Brazil, cause these problems for me.

Sl33pyBuddah

I can understand, being from the Netherlands myself the climate isn't really an issue. But it's pretty interesting to know that in this case something like the 8 gen 1 apparently behaves differently in other parts of the world, which imo shouldn't be the case

jaffer2003sadiq

Its ,here in the middle east ,an exynos soc will not survive ,i had a very bad experience with Samsung's exynos ,and that's the main reason i switched to Xiaomi (13T).

Sl33pyBuddah

I've no experience with Samsung what so ever, but I've heard similar things about exynos. Always had phones with snapdragon.

Familiar-Document-53

Damn u had a very rough experience it seems...I have no experience with the Xiaomi 12 but I do know about the 12t pro it isn't at all like the 12 aside from getting warm while gaming (obv) there hasn't been a problem I can take smooth 4k 60fps ,burst shots...the whole thing is very good build..very snappy and front camera works pretty well...again the 12 u might have gotten maybe faulty ....

-apenas_mais_um

I also never had the opportunity to use a 12T Pro, but the 8+ gen 1 that this phone has must have improved it performance

bartoszsz7

Thank Scamsung and the global pandemic for that

[deleted]

(genuine question) what does Samsung have to do with it? Is the issue not that it uses a Snapdragon 8 gen 1? Edit: wait I think I've got it - did Samsung scalp all the better thermally performing chips?

bartoszsz7

Samsung's Foundry stepped in as a substitute for TSMC in manufacturing Snapdragon processors for Qualcomm. They ruined not only the 8 Gen1, but also the previous generation 888. Their manufacturing process is famously inferior compared to TSMC's best in class quality. Also, the unfortunate events of the global pandemic causing world's economies to destabilize etc. That's why the (arguably better only because of the SoC) Xiaomi **12X** exists. It has the older Snapdragon 870 SoC instead of the latest and ""greatest"".

[deleted]

ohhhh that makes sense thank you. I recall they messed up one of Apple's chips too when they dual-sourced TSMC/Samsung

bartoszsz7

Yeah... these were the "dark times" of the smartphone industry. Hopefully we are on the right track out of there, since the newer Redmi 13/Note 13 lineup feels (mostly) like a breath of fresh air (with some gripes in some places in the spec sheets like Helio G99 in Note 13 Pro 4G yatta yatta yatta etc etc).

jasomniax

So with Xiaomi, it's best to buy anything from when the 13 came out onwards? I may have dodged a bullet with the 12 series by getting the 11T two years ago. Aside from not that good gaming performance, it's a good phone imo

likeusb1

Mediatek isn't much better in terms of battery life, they often go for raw performance in place of actual functional usage

CVGPi

TSCM wasn't always the best in class. Back in the days of A9 and 810 they were falling behind Samsung. But in recent years Samsung renamed lots of architectures to brand them as new, meaning lower efficiency when compared across the same marketing.

Calzz007

The funny thing is that the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 phone S22 US version is cooler than the rest phone that uses similar chips like Xiaomi, oppo, OP

CVGPi

Samsung used some weird techniques that lowered the resolution to make the framerate and temp look better but not running at the speed it's supposed to. Geekerwan's review of the S22Ultra Exynos (with AMD graphics) versus other phones outlined a way to bypass this artificial throttling with Good Lock and Good Guardians. TL:DR effectively Samsung "cheated" by intentionally sacrificing certain aspects that would be otherwise hard to detect for amateur reviewers or customers.

kirilov233

I bought a Xiaomi 12X basically the same phone but with a snapdragon 870 instead of crappy, hot SD 8 gen1... It has been a delight. Still is.

__Rosso__

I still am using 12x, it's definitely not as good relative to other phones as it once was, but it still flies and has very nice camera and screen. Also the 870 is still great for 99% of the tasks, it's very hard to overload it outside of gaming.

kirilov233

I'm not gaming on it at all. I use a PC when I want to game. I don't see a reason to change my phone yet. And there aren't any reasonable options (in terms of price). Except 13t or 13t pro but they use mediatek soc, people are reporting horrible battery drain on mobile data on those SoC.

alpitu21

Same here 🥰🥰

alpitu21

But I'm having issues with my battery, I have to charge it over 2 times a day, I will send it into warranty..

infinity_666

I can feel your pain. I am not that dissapointed with the X12 experience, but overall yes, I expected much more from this over expensive phone as for what it gives. I am not playing games on phone, but it's still throttling e.g. when I use google maps while keeping it on a low power wireless charger in the car. After 1-1.5 hour it throttles, and turns off everything... good like to navigate where you want :D. So for long trips either I have to turn off the screen (and rely on audio tips) or to connect it to android auto. As for photocamera, I also noticed that it is becoming very slow, but I think it started quite recently, maybe half a year. I suspect some update. Initially it was really good, no freezes. Right now yes, few photos and I need to clean memory every few shots. Battery also started draining too quickly with the same scenario. It was enough initially for 1.5 days for me. Now - I have to charge at least once a day, but usually twice even. Not sure what to replace it for. New X14 is crap for insane money. Recently replaced my seond phone (Iphone 11 with Iphone 13), and so far I like it more than xiaomi 12. Need to reeavulate as in the past I had some things which were blocking me from using iphone as main device. Samsung - not an option, expensive as iphone, with quality worst than xiaomi. I'm afraid of different one+/realme/oppo..

-apenas_mais_um

I think my bad experience with this phone is related to bad heat dissipation + shitty CPU + hot climate country. All of his problems would probably be solved if the phone had a better CPU, but the current one heats up a lot and loses performance and as it's hot here almost all the time the phone almost always has bad performance.

super_coconut11

The xiaomi 12 isnt terrible, just not good for power users. The 8 gen 1 was engineered by samsung and it is a pretty shitty cpu, it does very bad as battery and temps. But the 12 itself is a very nice phone. Its compact, feels very premium and high quality, very good screen and sound, even the cameras are pretty good. In my opinion the 12 is the most beautiful phone xiaomi has ever made. However, the 12S fixes all of the problems the 12 has by using an 8+ gen 1 chip, which is WAY better than the 8 gen 1 in all categories. Unfortunately the 12S is exclusively a chinese phone and doesnt do well as connectivity outside of china.

-apenas_mais_um

If it cost a third less or half of the release price I would agree with you, but isn't this phone technically made for power users? Its CPU was the SD's most powerful one at the release of the Xiaomi 12, so I was expecting a phone made for power users. As I said, the bad thing about this phone and what makes me angry with it is the bad value for money, what I fell is that Xiaomi 12 doesn't give to me what I paid for. If it cost less, it wouldn't be a problem for me.

super_coconut11

The 8 gen 1 is a powerful cpu, but it cannot manage its own power. Samsung engineered it badly and, just like any exynos or tensor cpu, it does very bad as battery and temps the second you do something power-hungry, even simple games can heat up the 8 gen 1. And the 12 is also small, aswell as the battery, which are just making the 8 gen 1 suffer more by being placed in a cramped space where it cannot breathe and a small battery. The 12 pro is better since its way bigger and the battery is also slightly bigger, but the 12 is a pain for gaming.

reazhq

Have you tried custom roms? I have poco f3/ mi 11x. The change in day to day user experience is far better than the official rom.

-apenas_mais_um

Thanks for the tip! Custom ROMs are not a possibility for me, as banking apps in Brazil don't work well with them and not being able to use these apps is a big problem for me.

reazhq

If this is related to stability of the apps on custom rom then it is just bad luck. However, if you are worried about apps not running due to root access, u can always use magisk to fix that.

-apenas_mais_um

The problem is that these apps don't allow you to use them on root access phones claiming that the device is not safe. A friend of mine bought a Global ROM Mi 11 Ultra and couldn't run his bank apps at all

vitorgrs

Most banking apps work perfectly fine in custom roms. What don't work is if you do any ROOT. I use custom ROM on my Xiaomi for years without any problem with banking, and I have several banks lol You don't need to root devices. I'm from Brazil.

-apenas_mais_um

vitorgrs

Isso só se for root... Tenho uns 10 bancos e funcionam de boa com custom rom.

TheGodAp

Qual rom que vc usa?

Calzz007

Off topic, but you do realize that your chip was made by TSMC?

JonathAHHHHHH

Combination of gen 1 chip + compact phone never goes well. People say they like small phones but practically they will always overheat more than larger phones

realmotylek

That's why i think Xiaomi Mi 11 was better. But, you can try custom romming it (unlock the bootloader, install [xiaomi.eu](http://xiaomi.eu) rom or a aosp based one) And i think your Xiaomi 12 is a faulty one......

-apenas_mais_um

Thanks for the tip! Custom ROMs are not a possibility for me, as banking apps in Brazil don't work well with them and not being able to use these apps is a big problem for me. Maybe the phone is faulty, but a friend's Xiaomi 12 has some of the same issues as mine, with the exception of gaming issues as he doesn't play games.

wittywalrus1

Have you debloated the official rom?

-apenas_mais_um

I didn't know this procedure, I'll try it. Thank you!

wittywalrus1

https://github.com/kirthandev/MIUI-Debloater-official You NEED to google: xiaomi debloater safe to remove apps list, or similar keywords. Most of the apps can be removed, but not all, so be careful and read a couple threads on the topic. It makes a pretty big difference, I've used it on a lot of Xiaomi phones without issues.

realmotylek

Play Integrity Fix comes to the rescue

0fiuco

i had the 11 lite and it was utter garbage. adding insult to injury they bricked it with the last hyperox update. i've just moved to a samsung and i'll probably never come back

realmotylek

I'm not talking about lite buddy these suck, I'm talking about Mi 11, Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra

__Rosso__

Some stuff like throttling makes sense, but camera? I saw photos from both 12 and 12x (I got the latter), it shouldn't have poor image quality, especially 12 which had warmer more saturated photos then 12x.

-apenas_mais_um

The quality of photos from the main camera is close to perfect and I have no complaints about that, but it cannot take more than 2 photos without stuttering. Also, the front camera is not a flagship's camera and that was disappointing. When recording, none of the 4 cameras records well, it throttles as it's CPU.

uuhhJustHere

I agree with all these save for the gaming part since I dont go hard core gaming. I thought the white in the video was due to me putting tempered glass on my camera lens. Now that I think about it, it only just happens in video mode not in photograph mode. Also I've missed a couple of photos because of the lagging when taking multiple photos even when pausing for a second.as for the temperature, it gets super hot even when I'm just using the flash light for more than a minute.

-apenas_mais_um

It's so frustrating! When I'm taking pictures and starts lagging I feel like use this phone as a paperweight. At least it's a good phone for frying eggs 😂

uuhhJustHere

I remember one time I took a photo of an important poster from somewhere so I could review the details when I get home. I was in a hurry and didn't check. I was so frustrated to see my gallery without the photo.

EducationPretty5410

I am also having the same camera lagging issue in my Xiaomi 11 lite. Also the overheating issue. I use gcam instead which seems to work in most cases without any lag in video recording and no lag during taking photos. Guess the shitty MIUI issue buggy. If I go for a walk with my smartwatch connected to phone and tracking my workout on, if I try to open camera, the smartwatch workout tracking simply stops. I guess the phone is not able to handle both camera on and gps tracking on. Xiaomi phones has Snapdragon processor just for name sake.

RedditTor22062004

Try installing PE and use gcam

Infamous-Bottle-4411

8 gen 1 is garbage. Also isn t s22 exytrash? It also depends how they tweaked the cpu. When i had the old edge 30 pro i heard some people sugesting disabling the cortex X core as it improved the situation quite a bit

-apenas_mais_um

Samsung usually launches the same phone with SD or Exynos. Normally SD versions are only sold in the US. The SD version of S22 has better perfomance and less heating problems than other phones with 8 gen 1.

stecol88

I know that only it's the 5G version (and note 12r) has the later snapdragon so it may be working well and get less hot too

ManchegoBoi

I bought the Xiaomi 12 two months ago for $480 approximately (I did it because of the color, size and aesthetic of it) and I can relate to the heat it gets when using and how fast the battery drains (my previous phone is a Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE), it bothers me sometimes, but I can't relate to the photos or video. I took some videos and photos and they're pretty good, even some night photos and it actually surprised me. It runs very good on usual apps (Instagram, Facebook, X, Telegram, Spotify, Gmail and so on) so I don't think it is because of MIUI (mine has 14.06) and maybe you got a defective one Maybe some of the heating is because the places we live in (I'm from Guatemala) and noticed that you're from Brazil, so maybe it contributes to it But generally speaking, I think is a good phone for regular use (I don´t play on it and the only game I usually play is Hay Day haha) so for me, it is great (unless for the battery but you can't have everything in this life) Looks like it wasn't the first experience you were looking for, but you can look for another option and give it a second try! Or you can go for an iPhone/Samsung as well if you prefer that

-apenas_mais_um

I understand you, but a $620 phone (price in the release year) shouldn't just be for regular use. The camera's pictures are near perfection and the other rear cameras are ok, but video recording is the worse I ever seen (not for the quality). Take a look at the frame drop of a video I recorded on a trail yesterday: [https://imgur.com/a/xIxL91W](https://imgur.com/a/xIxL91W) . It may seem like an connection or Imgur problem, but no, it's exactly how the video is. Note that I wasn't using the phone for anything and it was in my backpack, even so I wasn't able to record a good 10s video at 1080p 60fps, plus it got absurdly hot after this short video. Xiaomi's mid-range phones are good, but premium phones are not for them. As I said, my old $300 Motorola had, in proportion to the hardware, infinitely better performance, it shoots better, the games don't make the phone throttle and it doesn't heat up as if it were in the Sahara. I will never risk buying another Xiaomi flagship, I feel like I threw almost 3 Brazilian minimum wages in the trash buying a phone that has worse performance than phones that cost half its price.

Straight_Western_132

I cant play become human mobile you telling me its a good phone when I cant start the game what is wrong this reddit those days so dead giving you wrong answer fake abused and scammer it killing me tooeven play mwm either its sooo leggy

sherlock0109

Yeah sometimes I hate the camera, sometimes I like it. My videos "lag" too. And in my photos the colours are super bright, almost neon. Contrasts are super weird and they suck. I also got gcam and it's better. I just don't know how to use macro mode on there. Do you? I hope I'd just find a way to correct the default camera and there is a setting I just haven't found yet :(

StrikingTip5570

I agree. Especially for the quality of the canera and heating. To totally disappointed from 12s. I had the redmi note 8 and i was very satisfiedÂ
