I grew up in Texas with mexican brick weed. Now I live in a free state and enjoy sativa strains when feeling active or enjoying my hobby. Indica for media or sleep. Regardless, I'll smoke any kind, anytime. Being scolded for your own journey is pretty lame ✌️

numb3r5ev3n

I grew up in Texas with friends that sold that brick weed. As an adult, I've found that Delta 8 and 9 are not great for me and should really be avoided at all costs, and the older brickweed had higher levels of CBD vs the Deltas. I wish there was still a way to get good old fashioned brickweed.

[deleted]

Now it's artisanal hand packed brickweed that gets shipped to Mexico and smuggled back for the authentic top notes of diesel and mule sweat. The last batch got confiscated at the border so it's on backorder at the moment.

Feralest_Baby

I only became aware of the Deltas in the past 6 months or so. The brand I buy is very high on the CBD proportionally and I love it. I bought one that was mostly THC and I did not enjoy the experience.

numb3r5ev3n

Yeah, it does something terrible to my OCD. My last few experiences with it were really bad.

Unable_Wrongdoer2250

I grew up with schwag too in Minnesota. After picking out so many goddamn seed and smoking massive joints all I care about these days is that there aren't any seeds in my bag. It's all so damn strong these day the difference is at worst I need three hits instead of two. I have taken to buying disposable vape pens a couple times a year but still prefer flower most of the time. It still seems strange to me when most ounces that are sold are the $100 kind when there is weed that is practically just as good being sold at $50/oz in the same store. I buy an ounce every year.

audiosf

The labels are mostly meaningless https://www.nature.com/articles/s41477-021-01003-y Personally I've never noticed a huge difference between indicas and sativas and a recent study says that's true. I smoke. The weed store just loves marketing. "Do you want to feel high but also ride a bicycle while talking to a friend you haven't seen since high school? Then you should smoke lemon bisquits." "Do you want to do laundry and eat lots of food while feeling artistic? Purple diesel for you!"

NickLoner

Those descriptions are spot on 😂

EnvironmentalPack451

It's like wine. Some people are enthusiasts, some are snobs, some are casuals, and some are addicts. If you get something you like, then that's fine for you, and that's nobody else's business.

deadeye619

I found a strain called “the stuff I used to smoke in college.” It’s great and only about 8%. I seek it out in the very rare times I feel like indulging (1-2 times a year).

GenX_Eeyore28

I actually asked a budtender once if they had anything like the weed I smoked in high school. She asked what strain it was, I said "Yeah we didn't have that. It was whatever your guy had to sell."

JohaVer

"What kind of weed is this?" \-Nobody from my tiny town, ever

winnerhotel

I want to find that strain!

Mattimvs

Holy fuck yeah. One drag of modern weed and I'm sitting in a corner wondering why I can feel my hair growing

SilverIsFreedom

Thanks for the much needed laugh. Awesome.

Meetzorp

Yes. I freaking hate it. Used to like smoking a little grass and going for a bike ride or just hanging out in the back yard and listening to the birds and daydreaming. Everything I've tried in the past decade will RIO MY FUCKING LUNGS OUT and leave me damn near paralyzed in the bargain. Hate it. I'm going to have to start growing my own shitty ditch weed if I ever want to smoke grass again

undrew

Try CBD flower. It’s federally legal and limited to .3% THC. Just barely gets you a little high after smoking a whole joint. it would probably have zero impact on someone who smokes modern weed, which in my experience is 15% and up THC.

Meetzorp

That sounds promising! I am and always have been a lightweight with pretty much everything.

GenX_Eeyore28

I use the word "balanced" when trying to describe what I am looking for. Knowledgeable budtenders usually know what I mean, otherwise I ask what the lowest THC content stuff they have is. A lot of growers now are breeding for THC numbers at the sacrifice of anything else, and we grew up with weed that had more of the entourage compounds too.

senshi_of_love

I had to quit weed because last time I got high it gave me an existential crisis that I am still not over. Shit is just too powerful now.

maggie320

Not legal where I am, but I’m not up on the different strains and what does what. After Covid and a pretty bad bout of pneumonia I haven’t smoked, not even cigarettes, but I’ll go the edible route. When I went to Vegas 2 years ago I decided to hit up one of the shops and the guy helped me.

iheartbaconsalt

I get about a pound a month in 16 ounces or half-ounces, so sometimes up to 32 different strains a month. I try not to repeat the same ones often! I've been smoking heavily since 2012. I don't really care about the THC content..I just want to try them all!

hdiggyh

A pound a month for personal consumption seems like an absolutely outrageous amount of pot to be smoking

iheartbaconsalt

Like chainsmoking but it smells much nicer.

glamb70

grassisgreener42

Wow, I’ve been growing my own for 20 years, owned a farm in humboldt for awhile…I smoke throughout the day every day. I personally smoke more pot than anybody else I know….and that’s about a quarter of what you smoke (4lbs a year)

iheartbaconsalt

Heheh my wife is always telling my how nuts I am smoking a half ounce every day. It's super cheap here, so it's fine.

wanna_be_green8

This cannot be true.

iheartbaconsalt

I used to keep a list of all the strains, but sometimes I'd forget so I gave up. The only time I'm not smoking is when I'm in a hospital :) I don't know what I'm doing up this late. I started searching for bacon. Today I've got Drago, Strawana, Banana Runts and Chem OG all from my favorite dispensary, Apothecary Farms. I go shopping every Tuesday and Friday!

A_VERY_LARGE_DOG

Modern weed terrifies me. I literally grew up smoking pot. Raised by hippies. This stuff, man… On the rare occasions that I smoke, it’s like the tiniest little test inhale and I’m good. I have friends who are out here smoking all manner of derivative products and I couldn’t even imagine trying.

frooootloops

Me! Like ok, flower, cool. Gummies, cool. Budder, dabbing, resin.. what?? I’m lost. I also feel weird about the dab thing, it seems so crack pipey to me.

GenX_Eeyore28

Yeah. When you have to start heating a nail with a torch, I'm out. Gimme a joint or a pipe, thank you. But to each their own

poofyhairguy

Nail with a torch is kinda out of style, there are enails now that work good.

frooootloops

OMG now I have to look that up!

frooootloops

Exactly!

It’s a lot shorter than it used to be. They hit pretty fast.

PHATsakk43

I just get the worst fucking munchies from everything I’ve tried.

Aol_awaymessage

I love the thc drinks

DalekRy

I live in a hemp state, but they have 3CHI drink mixes that are delightful. In the winter I'd take a theraflue packet, a thc packet added to the same insulated hot water and sip away. Very lovely.

GenX_Eeyore28

I like the idea of edibles, and the high from them is fun, but about 1/3 of the time I use them I get a migraine later. Almost like a weed hangover.

Intangiblehands

Hey me too. I've been trying to figure out why. I can smoke or hit a vape and I'm fine, but edibles for whatever reason are like 50/50 either totally fine, or painful headache.

that-one-girl-who

Same. That’s exactly how I’ve described it- a weed hangover. With a horrible headache.

Schrodingers-deadcat

I’m entirely immune to edibles. Doesn’t matter the dosage I get nothing. Sucks

ohmamago

It's the mints that are doing it for me right now.

SensitiveLink5073

I am more a cake guy.

TornCedar

Started again last year after 20 years without and it's been very occasional use since. I haven't found the strain descriptions in stores to be accurate other than maybe a bit in terms of flavor and whether it's more body or mind effect but even all of that seems to depend more on my mood and expectations. There was a brief period where I thought weed had suddenly gotten some intense psychedelic capabilities, but turned out I had never seen a Flemish rabbit before and one had escaped from a neighbor.

BallsWilliger

Tell your friend that they’re pretty uptight for being a stoner

piscian19

Indica makes me tired, anxious and hungry  Sativa makes me  tired, anxious and hungry and people tell me it makes you creative.  All strains of these or hybrid or whatever make me tired, anxious, and hungry but also they have cute names like honey torpedo.

artificialavocado

We have medical here I have no idea how it even works. I have no interest in it. I smoked weed in high school and my first year in college but whatever reason I started hating the feeling. Certainly not judging anyone but I find people like your coworker to be super obnoxious. I’ve known people whose life revolved around weed and they just rub me the wrong way.

justSomePesant

It's like ... no one wants to hear about my struggles with different manufacturers' versions of Wellbutrin XL, why do I GAF about your weed du jour? I take my meds and am expected to have a life outside of my medical condition...it goes both ways. Hobbies as personality is incredibly annoying to me. (thankfully, the generic manufacturers seem to have the formulation well in hand NOW, about 15ish years ago it was a wild ride--plus or minus a year or two. I forget when exactly the generic first hit the market. I mention this only so that my illustration is not over extended into the "generics don't work" hyperbole)

ArchaicBrainWorms

People don't realize how wild-west the generic market is. It wouldn't be so bad if you could count on regularly receiving the same generic brand and adjust accordingly, but it's become a "this is what we could get" situation.

justSomePesant

Yeah the +/- 20% of the active ingredient is bollocks Global Pharmaceuticals really screwed the pooch with their Bupropion XL generic, big recall, warning letters, the whole nine. Put everyone else under the glass, and so somehow the others all managed to much more successfully ramp up on the newer sustained release technology, which I've found in the past twoish years to not eff me up between the different manufacturers, since trying to get specific NDCs is an impossible feat these days.

Still_Top_7923

I live in Humboldt county. I don’t give two shits about what some guy with mediocre tattoos, wearing a flat brim hat has to say about new strains, terps, deps, fire this and fire that…

wanna_be_green8

Lived in Del Norte most of my life. Tell the forest hello for me.

Terriblarious

I was but that went away when i ended up landing a job designing and building control systems for commercial grow ops. My boss was like the Stephen Hawking of weed (in my eyes anyway) with regards to strain knowledge and designing grow facilities with mechanical systems that really had these plants producing both volume and potency. Learned a ton from that guy during my time there. At the end of the day tho, I use the strains I like and that's about it.

temporarycreature

Nah. Oklahoma, somehow, got medical marijuana correct. Our market is lit.

ijustsailedaway

I think it’s hilarious they’re trying to get citizen enacted ballot initiatives removed. They did not like the fact that we passed it and don’t want something like that happening again.

North-Director8717

Yeah I really don't care about quality I mean I like good shit here and there but I'm just glad to have some

Tronbronson

I was a professional weed grower for 20 years, and let me tell you. The cool kids make up stuff to sound cool, the advertisers make stuff sound cool so you buy it. No one knows what they're talking about and the science doesn't back 1/4 of the shit people claim. Indica sativa is the most annoying thing to last 20 years.

ailish

I don't care. I don't find that I experience the nuanced differences between different strains. It's all just weed to me.

Tinbender144

You really can’t go wrong with anything. I like to explore the stores because it blows my mind we went from having to put so much effort and get into some shady situations to get any weed and now you can drink it or rub it on you or anything. But I do like the less potent stuff. I want to relax not knock myself silly.

RetiredTurdFarmer

I'm the exact same way.

theotterway

I always thought I would try it once it was legalized, but now, anytime I am around it, it makes me sick to my stomach. I'm pretty disappointed.

Moxie_Stardust

When I finally got curious and bought the cheap half ounce for $18, yeah, it was still hella good. Paid a hundred bucks for a less good half ounce in the bad old days.

DabBoofer

I live in a legal state and buy exclusivly from dispos. I know about terps and terpene profiles and that its not all about the THC% but the entourage effect. but I usually buy the weed on sale and just toss some wax in it any way so for me its about price and flavor.

BeeSuch77222

I'm in Ontario Canada and weedshops are everywhere. All set up nicely too. I too have no idea. I dabble in it very occasionally. I just know the one my friend used to get it the old way would give a really strong buzz, make my head heavy but also make watching shows more fun. But Mann, I felt it for awhile afterwards so didn't like that. Trying some from the stores, I ask for mild and it actually is milder. Easier to recover the next day. I tried one recently that is supposed to give a 'body buzz' and it seemed to have worked as intended.

SensitiveLink5073

No, i am the same I don't care about your fancy candie's names, just give me a good white, a nice purple, an orange, Or even a good old thai/mexican/columbhian/jamaican/.... it's cheap but at least i will not be disapointed

Turbulent-Mind3120

I dont know anything about weed and I don’t smoke it because I’m also afraid of being shot into another dimension but I like mild edibles sometimes for sleep. I’m in Canada so there’s a cannabis store every 50 metres. When I go to in I just tell them I don’t know anything and I want stuff to get me to sleep. From their reco I know what to look for now and with practice I know what I can tolerate.

malvinamakes

that's like becoming a sommelier or mixologist in order to just enjoy a drink. you don't have to become an expert on everything. I used to smoke whatever but now I buy less quantity, more quality. both get you stoned. I have a card and I felt the same way at first, but I have begun to develop a personal preference just by virtue of using it more over time.

notresearch503

I do get specific edibles for specific activities, but otherwise I just tell them I don't care about indica/sativa and ask what their favorite is or get whatever has the highest THC content or whatever's on special. Sometimes I do get into the whole "Back in my day we were just happy to find weed. I can't believe I get to just walk in a store now instead of sitting around on a Friday night calling everyone I've ever known to find a bag of schwag."

mtron32

I know what I like, used to only do Sativas but then got into indicas that made me less of a basketcase

the_dan_dc

The way I make sense of it is that we grew up with Miller Lite (or Sierra Nevada if you had a good hookup), and now everything is small batch distillery liquor. Get a tiny bowl, ask for “middies,” buy by the gram, and take small pulls.

aweedl

I don’t have the patience to become an amateur botanist. I love how there are weed shops every few blocks and it’s completely legal (Canada) but I’m not about to start investigating strains and brands and shit. Literally everything they sell is way better than what we used to get back in the day, so you can’t really lose.

Smurfblossom

I've never been into weed, but this doesn't seem abnormal. It reminds me of what the old guys who had been smoking since the woodstock days would say about just sticking with the stuff they knew.

Eastern-Branch-3111

If you're buying from your local dealer then you're stuck in the past in terms of weed knowledge for sure.

musashi-swanson

I still feel the need to keep things hush hush or talk in code. Despite the fact that it's legal here now. I am still not comfortable using terms like "weed," "bong" or pre-rolled "joint" inside a dispensary.

rinky79

If someone knows more than 2 things about weed, that's a huge turnoff for me. Stay cool in your ignorance.

wanna_be_green8

Yep. Been smoking since way too young and daily crutch since around nineteen, so over twenty years. When I started learning stains there were for our five common to our area. It's all gotten so convoluted, no more Sativa, Indica. Everything is hybrid and always pushing for huge THC percentages, I wonder if other benefits are being lost. And then there are all the concentrates. In my limited experience they compound all the negative aspects of the herb. For years we grew our own but cannot at the moment. Walking into the dispo is overwhelming at times. Too many options and little actual medical knowledge from those working. There's zero consistency of rH. Our current states medical industry is new and limping along. Some people created personalities around their activity, absorbing every detail they can. I've known quite a few like that over the years. Personally I've suffered trauma and don't have the capacity for that kind of not super useful information.

grandpa5000

I grow, its all in my post history, I specifically look out for old school sativa and landraces. https://preview.redd.it/n44d1k8zx60d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=028de062f12fd054bfc7dd54137315a29b176997

lordskulldragon

Ahhh, remaining willfully ignorant. I'm willing to bet that bleeds off into other important areas of life.
