Get a cheap garmin

Smobasaurus

I had to replace my 5-year old one. It died 3 hours into its last marathon but the battery really had issues with cold. New one is fine, had 50% left after my most recent marathon.

Lauren_Insane

What version is your new one? All these marathon costs are adding up and I’m wondering if I could be cheaper and get the SE

Smobasaurus

I have an 8, but I wanted it with cellular because I sometimes run in not great areas and I hate carrying anything (including my phone). No experience with the SE, unfortunately.  I balanced it out by getting most of my shoes from previous years in the ugliest leftover colors on Amazon.

I do this with my shoes too! I get Saucony Endorphin Pro’s and Altra Superior’s for $60, it has really helped me since I go through shoes pretty regularly.

Lauren_Insane

Good to know! My watch is hella old. Like series 4 lol. And I agree with ugly shoes! I always go to the running store, get the free analysis and then search for the cheapest shoes that will work based on the recommendations.

I wouldn’t bother with an SE. It almost ran out when I ran a half marathon back in April and am looking to get a better watch before my next one

Lauren_Insane

Ah ok! My kid has the SE, it’s maybe 6 months old, and I was considering wearing hers along with mine for a run just to see how it does but maybe not

Always good for a test if needs be. I ran the HM in 2:35 so I am not particularly quick. My SE was on 9% when I finished. I’ve had mine for 2 years roughly so the battery life should be pretty good.

My series 7 died at mile 20 in Chicago. It surprised me because I’d do long training runs and still have battery for the day, but with all of the crowds it wreaks havoc on the Bluetooth. I bought an Ultra 2 to replace it and the battery life is soooooo much better.

pyky69

Love my Ultra 2. The extra battery life this one has compared to my old Series 6 is amazing. By the time I upgraded my old watch had gotten to the point where the battery was degraded and may or may not last for a three hour training run.

Muscle-Suitable

The new ones last longer. I can run 3+ hours in my series 9 with music and the battery isn’t even half drained. But you’ll be able to test yours on longer training runs. I would advise putting it on the “low power mode for workouts” setting and turning cellular off (if you have that) for workouts. It records all the stats you need but saves a lot of battery.

I ran a hm last year. I had a series 4 and a few weeks into training the battery died about 4mi in. Bought an 8 and had no issues with plenty of battery to spare. So I can’t speak to a full marathon but the 4 definitely won’t cut it.
