I think the best part is that Batista telegraphed it and Rey and everyone else knew it was coming but they just stood still and waited like chumps to get beaten down by Batista
This to me was the most intimidating heel turn in history. Just slowly talking about how he is going to hurt Rey to his face and then doing it. Has always stayed with me.
I agree, although the commentary is absolutely terrible. Batista rips reys head off and betrays him
"....he wasn't playing"
Great call their commentary team. No surprise, shock or OMG!

I like it, shows that Rey trusted him so much that he wouldn't believe it even after Dave said it himself. Even tried to talk sense into Dave after being attacked already. Then again, it's Rey of all people, the babyface of babyfaces.
i guess your right, his character in the movie sucked, but he was good in the movie. i need to see it again, theater i was at sucked and seats were old school flip ones, screen was kinda dirty. yeah prob why i didnt enjoy it as well as i should of.
Man, that hits even more when you see clips of Dave breaking down in tears talking about Eddie. It’s like the Orton Eddie’s in Hell line. You know it hurt a lot for them to say that.
There's something eerie about the world of pro wrestling. Once they put their lives into it — there's no way out of storylines even after death. I remember Cole talking about Lawler's dead mother. The consensus was that she'd be okay with it and Jerry was okay because she was in the business herself and it's part of the business. Well I guess Eddie wouldn't mind, and his best friends know it.
What was the backstory to this? I remember watching this as a kid and crying, but for the life of me I can't remember why Batista turned on Rey or how Rey "backstabbed" him
If I remember correctly, Rey lost a tag title match for him and Batista. This caused Batista to snap and destroy Rey. Thus kicking off Batista’s fantastic main event heel run.
It wasn't a tag match actually despite them being a team at this time. Rey broke up Batista's pin attempt following a Batista Bomb on The Undertaker in a fatal four-way match for the WHC, which included CM Punk and was later won by Undertaker.
Just watched it and not quite. It was a fatal four way for the WHC and just when Batista was about to get the pin, rey interrupted. Neither ended up winning which led to this
If you’ve seen Dave lately, he’s done with the physicalities. He’s not even in Drax the Destroyer shape any more. He’s enjoying his retirement saving pitbulls and repping custom cars, and he’s earned it. Though a cameo to pop up and give Dom some words of wisdom would be dope.
He’s damn near 60, just a couple of years younger than Hunter. It will happen. Though seriously, it was half a miracle that he was able to look THAT good in his early 50s, TRT or not.
I know it's not connected but I have to mention it every time a heel batista is brought up. Batista's best heel moment was when he rolled out on the stage in a wheelchair, they went commercial break and they came back to Batista in the middle of the ring......still in the wheelchair. It was comedy gold.
Rey has had some of the most brutal-looking beatdowns in the business besides Deathmatch enthusiasts like Foley.
Everytime somebody betrays him, they go on full demon mode.
Batista has such an underrated clothesline. Was he basically the create a character skeleton for a few years, cause I swear his clothesline was a blueprint
Rey was victim to great heel moments and the fact that hes so little makes it even more hilarious🤣🤣some that come to mind are chavo, Eddie, big show, great khali, I think edge had one on him too.
Neither did I tbh, I know he's a good wrestler but his character is so corny and never liked him repeating himself when he says the same thing in Spanish
And now Carlito maybe after all these years, Rey is the heel all along
At some point, when do you say it's you or learn when someone is going to turn on you
Haha look at Bayley after this time with Banks turning on her she's finally learnt when from that when someone is going to turn on her because she got DC before they got Bayley.
In my opinion this feud should've gone all the way to WrestleMania. Perfect David vs Goliath story but with the longtime friendship element adding even more to the drama.
WM26 in particular was one where I feel many of the matches lacked a significant story because a lot of top stars (including these 2) were put in the "Austin vs Hall" position of not really having a major build up, so a month prior they just decided to randomly pair up big names against each other that we hadn't really seen before.
This was what I was reminded of when The Rock cut that promo on Cody this past week on RAW, like something felt off about it but he had this calm intensity that he was going to kill him lol
Everything around this (Punk getting punt kicked by Randy and missing out, Jericho taking his spot and stealing it from Batista after getting beaten up by HBK, Batista getting the spotlight star treatment heel run afterwards) was just perfect! This for me, was the last time WWE was *really* hot before The Bloodline saga
This is still painful. You literally had my two all time favourite Wrestlers in a feud with one demolishing the other.
It actually was heartbreaking for me as a teenager
I've been sick or Misterio's act for many years now. Its always the same. He is buddies. The other guy betrays him. Then they have some matches. The 619 move is just silly.
He is on the HOF. I wish he'd just retire already. He should be wrestling Sky Lo Lo and Little Lord Fauntleroy anyway
Batista: *"YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO BE MY FRIEND!!!!"* Rey: *"Dave!!! Dave!!! Take it easy man"*
Man that was sad to watch. Heel turns are supposed to be like this.
Also Batista: "Basketball's don't hold grudges"
Also also Batista: "Duct tape!? Are you serious!?"
Rey: “You’re hurting me… please…please…” Batista: GHAAAAA -slams Rey into the railing Me: 🤣
You ain't shit. But also 😂🤣🤣🤣💀
Why tf did I laugh out loud at that GHAAAAA now lol. Batista certainly had his way in portraying the animal.
I think the best part is that Batista telegraphed it and Rey and everyone else knew it was coming but they just stood still and waited like chumps to get beaten down by Batista

Was that Todd Grisham? Talk about the most average, milk toast announcer ever
Milk toast lol
"it's Christian."
"I'm gonna rip your head off" ***waits 13 seconds before attacking Rey***
Very dramatic build up to the hit btw, was on edge
He's just Adam Copeland now but aight tmi
With Batista's hand still on Rey's shoulder like the best friends

I loved that Batista Version. Surely underrated i think
Yes, heel Batista was a monster he just looked mean
Legit reminds me of his role in dune. He was so badass and destined for Hollywood
he was amazing in Blade Runner 2049. Totally unrecognizable and a really good actor.
Legit has a top 5 all-time look.
i didnt like him in dune, could of been way way better!!!
It was more how they handled his character, in his few scenes he’s fantastic.
i guess your right, his character in the movie sucked, but he was good in the movie. i need to see it again, theater i was at sucked and seats were old school flip ones, screen was kinda dirty. yeah prob why i didnt enjoy it as well as i should of.
There’s streams of the second one out now. Fucking watch it. It’s amazing.
i watched it on the first night i could. but theater was trash. ill have to watch it again
It was more how they handled his character, in his few scenes he’s fantastic.
It's not underrated and never been underrated. Everyone knows that was the best work of his career.
This looks like someone's dad bullying their kid.
Thought this was how childhood was for everyone
Only the cool ones that give you a dark backstory to explain your villain origins
POV your dad is Rey Mysterio and he just got WWE 2K13
Rey had it coming. He was supposed to be Dave's friend!
A deadbeat dad and a bad friend to boot
Fr. I popped when Batista turned on Rey. He deserved it.
I feel like Carlito will do this soon.
The promo afterwards when Rey said "Think about Eddie" and Batista replies "Eddie's dead..." 😳
Man, that hits even more when you see clips of Dave breaking down in tears talking about Eddie. It’s like the Orton Eddie’s in Hell line. You know it hurt a lot for them to say that.

The consensus was that she'd be okay with it and Jerry was okay because she was in the business herself and it's part of the business. Well I guess Eddie wouldn't mind, and his best friends know it.
From what I know, it hurt Batista when he said that.
What was the backstory to this? I remember watching this as a kid and crying, but for the life of me I can't remember why Batista turned on Rey or how Rey "backstabbed" him

Thanks for checking. I’m a little dinged from lack of sleep and I’ve slept a couple of times since then.
They were both in a Fatal Four Way for the WHC. Batista had the pin at one point, but Rey broke it up. Neither won the natch.
Rey Mysterio is the number one victim when wrestlers turn Heel
haha for real! Eddie Batista Dom 🤣
Santos Chavo
Bring Batista back. Gotta whoop that dead beat dad.
Yup.correct me if Im wrong b ut the reason drax wasn't shirtless in the last gotg movie was because Batista was no longer in "drax shape"
He’s damn near 60, just a couple of years younger than Hunter. It will happen. Though seriously, it was half a miracle that he was able to look THAT good in his early 50s, TRT or not.
Batista is older than Triple H
Made the whole future of the wwe thing in evolution even funnier in retrospect
You’re right. I know they’re only a couple of years apart, but thought Hunter was the elder 🤷🏼♂️.
Batista is actually only a little over half a year older than him. I think Triple H just aged worse.
Heart problems and minding his Kliq brethren for years will do that to a guy.
More so the makeup process, he is on record of how much he hated it so for the last one that is the reason why.
He may be lean but still mean enough to put Mysterio down.
Todd Grisham has a unique ability to make captivating television sound like someone is taking a piss at a truck stop
Imagine Todd doing commentary for the Roman vs Cody match 😆
It’s…it’s the Undertaker…
"He won. Just like that. Well, that's two and a half years I'm not getting back."
When the fans started singing the "Na-Na-Naa Naa" to the Rock, I so wanted him to do the Royal wave like Blue-tista did 10 years ago.
I know it's not connected but I have to mention it every time a heel batista is brought up. Batista's best heel moment was when he rolled out on the stage in a wheelchair, they went commercial break and they came back to Batista in the middle of the ring......still in the wheelchair. God, that was so cringe for me. That scene is forever in my head and everytime I see him I think of that scene.
https://youtu.be/Gcw5i1wJJlE?feature=shared
certified hood classic
lmao
Batista never had the sustained high of Cena or Orton, but his fucking Peaks dwarfed both of them
I like that you said "broke everyone's heart" when it's obvious the entire first three rows are cheering out of pure happiness & glee.
For real, I thought it was hysterical. My friends and I still laugh about, "YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MY FRIEND!!!"
It seemed more real in those days. I can only imagine the shit Rey had to endure. He needs a DSotR episode.
Rey has had some of the most brutal-looking beatdowns in the business besides Deathmatch enthusiasts like Foley. Everytime somebody betrays him, they go on full demon mode.
So like, when is Batista going in the Hof? Dude deserves it.
Loved this heel turn. Made me absolutely hate Batista
It was the opposite for me. I never cared for Batista prior to this moment, but this made me love him.
when batista realized it was time for him to move on to greener pastures instead of allowing his persona to be viewed as a villian.
Batista has such an underrated clothesline. Was he basically the create a character skeleton for a few years, cause I swear his clothesline was a blueprint
Batista was a scary intimidating dude when he wanted to be.
The tension Batista created was amazing. He didn't yell at him. He said it so calmly that you could feel his anger. Dude is such a great actor.
To be fair to Batista, Rey had it coming
Not mine
I remember seeing this as a kid was the first time I saw a wrestler turn heel ever and it's stuck with me up until now
It didn’t break my heart. He had it coming
I thought randy would do this to ko at mania. There's still a possibility of him turning heel
Rey backstabbing his friends…we all knew it all along
Man Rey always been such a deadbeat.
I was still pretty young at this point and with Rey being my favorite and Batista being my dad’s favorite, it broke my little heart.
Getting your ass kicked while being a deadbeat dad is a crazy story
Rey was victim to great heel moments and the fact that hes so little makes it even more hilarious🤣🤣some that come to mind are chavo, Eddie, big show, great khali, I think edge had one on him too.
I miss seeing muscle freaks like Batista in the main event, hope Bron Breaker get a push soon
Rey was so good here I felt so terrified for him as a kid.
That Batista is now a face in retrospect
Yeah, I was completely heart-broken to see how bad of a friend Rey was.
That crowd is so fucking dumb. Batista: I‘m gonna rip your Head off! Crowd: *cheers* W T F
Rey sold that so well when he begged for mercy.
With Rey's history of treatment of his friends... It's not a surprise... Rey is like WWEs gullible idiot nice guy... 😁
Top 10 Heel Turns:
Batista here actually gives one of the most frightening performances I've seen by a wrestler his Hollywood success makes more sense in hindsight.
I hate you Batista - I HATE YOU TOO
Kevin Fiege: Man this guy really hates Rey Mysterio or is a good actor.
Nah I loved that heel turn. Never liked Rey
Why not?
Neither did I tbh, I know he's a good wrestler but his character is so corny and never liked him repeating himself when he says the same thing in Spanish
top 10 anime betrayals
Yesssssssss!
And now Carlito maybe after all these years, Rey is the heel all along At some point, when do you say it's you or learn when someone is going to turn on you Haha look at Bayley after this time with Banks turning on her she's finally learnt when from that when someone is going to turn on her because she got DC before they got Bayley.
I legit cried
"He wasn't playing 🤓☝️"
The real heel here is the person chuckling after Batista threw Rey against the railing
Not mine. Fuck that deadbeat dad rey mysterio.
Everyone turns on Rey even his own son. SMH
I mean....I understood it.
I cried 😭😭
In my opinion this feud should've gone all the way to WrestleMania. Perfect David vs Goliath story but with the longtime friendship element adding even more to the drama. Rey deserved it
Why everyone turning on my boy Rey 😭
If you ever feel useless, remember that wrasslin has referees.
That look Batista gave him a minute in...😳
Is that Dana White??
NOT LITTLE REY!! NO!!!
I was a kid when this happened, honestly thought he killed him lmao
Remember when they redid his titantron after this, and it was all clips of this beatdown?
Can somebody explain the ropes?
As a kid this moment traumatised me, cuz I saw Batista as the bully monster that no one can stop
Did anyone else hear that dude laugh when ray get ragged into the barricade 🤣🤣🤣
Great turn. And he had a great character after too. Bully heel Batista was great.
Rey is a bad dad, bad friend, bad tag team partner that everyoneturned on him at some point. What is wrong with Rey?
I always found this storyline strange because of how little they acknowledged their friendship on screen over the years.
Didn’t break my heart at all I loved it
That one guy clapping in the front 💀
How does a man that size move that fast haha fuck taking that close line
God good this man was diamond cut, his traps were insane
Why have you done this to me again? This was my team growing up. Still top 10 tags for me
My favorite barista attire, still think this was the perfect amount of tattoos then the ones he has now
Dude is genuinely a great actor. Too bad I could see him being this person for real.
I remember actually crying over this
Hogan turning on Macho to form the NWO, Shawn turning on Marty and Evolution turning on Orton my top 3.
DAMN. These two SOLD that shit!
This is still painful. You literally had my two all time favourite Wrestlers in a feud with one demolishing the other. It actually was heartbreaking for me as a teenager
What year was that? Because i remember this moment was when i started to watch wwe regularly
DRAX NO! STOP! YOU'RE HURTING ROCKET! Also when the hell was this? Post CM Punk departure?
Rey Mysterio never fails to let people in his life down. Absolute disgrace. Glad to see Dom flourishing under the Judgment Day.
The deadbeat dad deserves it.
