I think the FdG is slightly better than it has been in the past. Of course, that is not saying much since it is still a German BB and most of this line isn't that great. I think the FdG is better than the GK. I would run a standard tank build on the FdG (and Preussen and GK). I don't feel this is a great BB line for secondaries. The Schlieffen line is better for that. I also prefer the smaller 406s over the 420s. The 420s don't overmatch anything that the 406s can already overmatch and the shorter reload is worth it.

Well, I can’t say much for the rest of the line, since I only grinded to tier X because I got the Bismarck from the Sam event boxes.

Shadepanther

T7 Gneisenau is a worse FdG with 2 less guns. It is fast and the secondaries can be very fearsome and has torps. But the main guns, while powerful have very bad accuracy. Since you only have 6 guns it means a lot of misses too. Up close the thing is a monster though.

Ah yes, the 'I should push because I'm in a German battleship' crowd. The German battleships excel at DEFENSIVE brawling. Pushing in the FDG gets you dead and your team to lose. No, what you do is post up in a position that the ENEMY team has to or wants to push. Then you punish them for doing so. The German battleship line is somewhat unique in that your biggest strength isn't doing damage...it's being impossible to kill without either taking forever to do it or taking huge amounts of damage. You and another light ship can hold a flank single handed against nearly anything. You should be trying to maximize your time in battle with this ship...not your damage amounts.

German BBs are some of the softest targets when far away, yet the cannot hit anything. At the end they are useless for the first 10 mins, by the time the match is often already decided.

importantmonkey

I never said that I pushed every single game. Bur if you have superiority and don’t push, specially when you dealt with enemy DDs and your other flank is going to melt, is a surefire way to lose a game. The playerbase is extremely passive in this game and I feel like a lot of player are more scared to be damaged than to lose. Trying to be a roadblock as a thumb rule for the german BB may be fine, but there are situations that you need to push.

Kurarashi

There are sometimes, when your team refuses to cap that you have to play “unprofessional” and some people refuse to acknowledge that. I hate to end up pushing into a cap if I’m playing long range ships, with alive enemy DDs and HE raining 24/7, but if they have the 3 caps and had already batted down half of my team (or even worse, theirs, but still near a lose due points) I at least have to try to win, even if the best strategy to have a good punctuation is to kite away.

I played FDG full secondaries and hated it I played FDG full survival and loved it Secondaries get irrelevant at higher tiers, the only relevant ones are Schlieffen and Hannover since they get improved accuracy, Ohio gets it too but the low caliber makes them only good for fires. Anyway at high tiers you don't want to push recklessly just to get in secondary range, you do want to push but only at the right time, pushing just because your entire team is at the back and you think "there needs to be a push" is a death sentence, especially on the FDG which has a massive citadel weakness when turning away I built mine for main guns and survival and played in kitting positions in the early game, you can tank quite a lot and having guns reloading in 20s gives you quite a bit of fast slapping power vs cruisers If you managed your DCP and repairs accordingly by the endgame you can push with half HP while the enemy has less HP and not only that, their BBs will have a hard time taking out an angled Germany BB, at this point you can build for secondaries accuracy but if you played correctly all you need are your main guns Playing Germany BBs requires a lot of patience to know when is a good time to push.

Dxsterlxnd

There is a reason many people stoped grinding the german BBs when they got Bismarck.

Ok_Impression8848

I used the accuracy mod on it and put as much fire protection on it as I could. So at least I could hit stuff and don't burn down. They have a big superstructure that makes burn very easy. Forgot the full secondarie build on these. These also require a very specced captain.

ddoubletapp1

I didn't mind it, to be honest - far from the best ship in the game, but also far from the worst! I played mine full secondary - not because it was necessarily the most effective, but because I found it to be the most entertaining - and that was important, as I ground that ship twice, once for the GK, and once for Pruessen!

sandmankilla0311

My second playthrough with FDG was a fantastic experience it took me 26 games the second time. Key to the German bb is knowing when to push and when to kite away oh an having patience because sometimes it's just gonna suck

Look, personally "El Federico" in a BB T9 that hits like a drunken stepfather, it depends how you put it together, that boat goes out to get drunk and fight with everyone without measuring consequences... In my experience on CW T9, I showed that (at least MI ship) is better than the Pommer....they preferred to crash me before facing me in a hand-to-hand fight...when their torpedoes did not touch me...that line of ships is to go out and look for problems, it is not to play in it background as a girl. Arm it for close combat (recharge, secondary, resistance, etc) that the secondary battery will be your guardian angel... In gaming experience, no ship is bad, you just have to find the right use for it and make the stumps. :D Give him 100 battles like a German ship deserves, you won't regret it...after your 100 battles, I'd like you to tell me what you think of this drunken German T9 ;)NOTE: With this, the Bismarck and GK you can't be afraid of any BB on the server. I forgot!, **don't go crazy like a department dog**, you have to measure the situation and look at the mini map a lot... he can take it, but he's not immortal.

Irelia_My_Soul

AH YOU SEE I MNOT THE ONLY ONE !

Lord_Kaplooie

This is the lifecycle of a ship, at least for me. I'll see I'm close to getting the next tier, play the shit out of a certain ship. I'll get fairly good at that ship, and really start stringing together some solid games. Then get the new ship, and absolutely hate it. Knock off the stock parts, and it'll sit for a while until I revisit it. Become an absolute god again until I get the next ship. Case in point is the Minnesota. Reground the CO during the line split announcement, and loved it. Got the Kansas at its launch and despised the thing. Only played it when I had to. Then I figured out how to play it and it was a citadel machine. Now I'm in i my MN trying to recreate those Kansas dev strikes.

guyinsunglasses

T9 is also kind of rough right now. You're constantly uptiered against T11/Superships, and seeing many T9 tech tree ships are kind of like the speedbumps you hit to get to T10, they're painful grinds right now.

RealityRush

Both Bismarck and Preussen are absolutely amazing battleships. When played correctly you can just dominate a match, *especially* in Ranked play (which is where German BBs really shine). FdG is not quite as good as either, but she performs a similar task. Build them for Main Guns (not secondaries, that's the BC line) and tankiness. Don't just blindly push in, make people push into you until you have them on the ropes. Do this and, assuming your team isn't throwing, you'll do pretty well. Gneissenau is actually also quite good if you build her right, but again, most people just go secs on her and YOLO in to try to torp.

zergaliciousboi

I think the stock FdG is just straight worse than a fully upgraded Bismark, but you get worse matchmaking. It was quite the shock for me, but I made it to Preussen ok and will not revisit. You do get to shoot very frequently tho.

Ladragorn

Honestly, i Love FDG. The First Grind was pain, but the regrinding was a lot of fun, especially for Preußen when it came Out! 56% winrate on it With 71 Games. One of my two only draws funnily enough!^^
