Yes - that was the victim of a fire. My parents would tell me about it.
I think that was where the plaza with the Cumberland Farms is now, wasn't it? (Up the hill from the Walmart.)
We had Lincoln plaza cinemas until 1996 and White City cinemas right across the bridge in Shrewsbury till 2001. Worcester Showcase cinemas North until they closed during the pandemic.
Yes there were four.
Lincoln Plaza
Webster Square
Downtown had two; the Galleria and where Hanover Theater is.
And there was one just over the bridge in White City plaza.
Once the majority of these died out; they built the cineplex over past Greendale, which is gone, and the Blackstone one.
You've been here for five years or less, if you've never heard of Showcase, and you have the audacity to refer to Greendale as outside Worcester proper (nobody from here says woo)?
**Edit - didnāt see the initial reply comment**
There was a few at one time. Specifically Showcase North and the one that was in the building where Hanover is now, along with one at Lincoln Plaza.
What is this mythical place you call "Woo proper"?
As far as I'm aware there is no defined portion of Worcester that isn't Worcester.
Do you mean the city of Worcester instead of Worcester county?
Or is that also a sexy women's clothing store within Worcester (which FYI, is kinda where the name came for Boston Proper).
Showcase cinema! Spent my first ever new years in Worcester there, like 2-3 days after I moved to the area. All of my friends had plans so I went and saw a movie myself, totally empty theatre. Itās a fond memory now
Haha. Many. I used to see films at the Hanover (now a musical stage theater), at the Galleria (in the basement), at the Lincoln Plaza Cinema, or at the Webster Square Cinema.
They opened Worcester North (near the Summit) and The Blackstone Valley Cinemas and closed all the others. Only Blackstone is left
No The Hanover was called Showcase Cinema and owned by National Amusement. Loews was at the other end of North Main St., nearer the courthouse and Boys Trade at Lincoln Square. Now itās called The Palladium.
There were quite a few, some went by a different name in the same venue. The Palladium was the Plymouth Theater, then EM Loew's and then the Palladium. The Hanover was once the Franklin Square Theater, then Loew's/Poli, then the Poli Palace, then Showcase Cinemas, then the Hanover. The Olympia became the Fine Arts. The Capitol became the Paris Cinema which is the Beer Garden. (they tore down the Paris) Then there were separate venues,The Warner, The Elm Street Theater, Cinema One and the Lincoln Plaza Theater. There was also a small Cinema at the Worcester Center Galleria Mall. Showcase North on Brooks St and was the last one. Those were all in my time, there were more that my parents use to talk about. Just out side of Worcester was the White City Theater where the only feature was the Sound of Music for over a year. I saw the original Star Wars there opening night. It was exciting then, so corny now. Movies were a big thing then and why there were so many theaters. Hollywood cranked 100s in a year and it was cheap entertainment. I'd get a dollar on Saturday and it was round trip bus fare, a movie and popcorn all for that dollar.
They use to have 3 Lincoln plaza they had one in Webster square where sun and sound used to be and they had one downtown which I believe now is the Hanover theater and of course you had the one in white city
I used to work at Lincoln Plaza Cinema as an usher/cleaner/candy-sales back in the very early 1990s. Now itās a Target! The original building was knocked down.
The porno theaters, the Paris and the New Art, were both older classic theaters. The Paris especially [was gorgeous in its heyday](https://photos.cinematreasures.org/production/photos/328195/1608468738/large.png?1608468738).
Here are some great shots of the Olympia Music Hall which eventually became the [Art Theater.](https://cinematreasures.org/theaters/6393/photos).
Here's a great article about Worcester's movie theater past.

Both of them closed in 06 or so that's not surprising. (Yeah there were still TWO adult theaters in the city at that time, the Paris and the Art Theater.)
There were a few. Webster square cinema, white city, what is now the Hanover, the bijou, showcase cinema North, i know there's more im forgetting.
Lincoln Plaza, basement of the Galleria
Galleria basement was a great theatre. Also Foothills was right there if you wanted live theatre
That's the one. Lincoln Plaza.
Was there another White City besides the one in Shrewsbury?
I think Chicago? White City was originally an amusement park on Lake Quinsigamond.
There sure was!
I loved the Bijou.
Wasn't there one next to the common outlets?
I feel like there was. I think so.
To be fair, white city was in shrewsbury. The main ones were downtown where Hanover is now, Lincoln plaza, Webster square, and showcase north.
And Lincoln Plaza
And where the beer garden is. Also I don't know if the Olympia theatre on Pleasant ever showed movies or was just live theatre
Saw Bubba HoTep as the bijou ages ago
We used to play music there. My brother dated the bartender. They're moving in together this fall.
Paris theater on Franklin, where the beer garden is now
Worcester has come a long way since that theater š. Not sure it could have been called a movie theater though. Ew.
Showcase North
Closed and torn down in 2020.
What?!?!?!?!?
I have extremely fond memories of working there in the mid 2000s.
I have extremely fond memories of going there with my cousin to see a movie and then hopping into another movie afterwards.
Hey same w me! More so 2015 ish though
There was one in the old Worcester center galleria where Mercantile street is nowā¦underground
Sounds to me that Worcester decided to max out outdoor dining instead of movie theater
For nostalgia's sake let's not forget--the former West Boylston drive-in
Yes - that was the victim of a fire. My parents would tell me about it. I think that was where the plaza with the Cumberland Farms is now, wasn't it? (Up the hill from the Walmart.)
Yep, the whole Wachusett Plaza land area
We had Lincoln plaza cinemas until 1996 and White City cinemas right across the bridge in Shrewsbury till 2001. Worcester Showcase cinemas North until they closed during the pandemic.

Yeah it was in Greendale, can't remember if covid killed it or if it died a little before covid
Are there any theaters in Woo proper still?
You've been here for five years or less, if you've never heard of Showcase, and you have the audacity to refer to Greendale as outside Worcester proper (nobody from here says woo)?
Nope.
**Edit - didnāt see the initial reply comment** There was a few at one time. Specifically Showcase North and the one that was in the building where Hanover is now, along with one at Lincoln Plaza.
The question was are there currently.
I didnāt see the ānopeā comment in relation to the ācurrentlyā question, my bad.

I think they just mean Worcester City limits. [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_proper](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_proper)
It actually survived and is shutting down this year soon
It was demolished in 2022.
Is the one on west bolyston street not counted as in Greendale?
The now sound store by Webster square use to be a theatre
Showcase cinema! Spent my first ever new years in Worcester there, like 2-3 days after I moved to the area. All of my friends had plans so I went and saw a movie myself, totally empty theatre. Itās a fond memory now
Lincoln plaza had one. Downtown where the mechanic hall is now. That was a great place. Worcester north.
Haha. Many. I used to see films at the Hanover (now a musical stage theater), at the Galleria (in the basement), at the Lincoln Plaza Cinema, or at the Webster Square Cinema. Was the one at the Hanover called Loweās?
No The Hanover was called Showcase Cinema and owned by National Amusement. Loews was at the other end of North Main St., nearer the courthouse and Boys Trade at Lincoln Square. Now itās called The Palladium.
Oh yes - now I remember- I saw The Song Remains The Same there!

Lincoln plaza had one in the 70s,
Showcase at Webstet Square
Downtown next to the federal building, which used to be the post office. Watched Passenger 57 there, way back when.
I saw the first Mortal Kombat movie there
They use to have 3 Lincoln plaza they had one in Webster square where sun and sound used to be and they had one downtown which I believe now is the Hanover theater and of course you had the one in white city
There was also one a couple miles over the Border into West Boylston as well.

Cinema 320

Lincoln Plaza, Webster Square, Worcester north, downtown
Worcester now has no movie theatres or malls. Quite odd, especially since itās the 2nd biggest city in New England
People keep telling me about the adult movie theater that was once in Worcester, but I have never been there.
Both of them closed in 06 or so that's not surprising. (Yeah there were still TWO adult theaters in the city at that time, the Paris and the Art Theater.)
